Some times people need tobe told harshly they're being an idiot.
Instead, I'll just post and call you a fucking idiot.
Judging by their published release timeline, 1.4 is set to be released the first week of March, I dont think a fix will make it in to 1.4. :[
It might not have all the bells and whistles of an ipad, but there's an active app community, it's "tablet" sized, and is geared towards content consumption and not creation. For me, this is what signifies a tablet.
I believe that to have paid professionals perform a similar level of work, the price point would be well over the main prize of 25,000.
My workplace used to post all H1-B pay rates in the breakroom.
The day after my review, in which I brought up the pay discrepancy between me and the H1-B workers at a similiar grade, they all came down never to reappear.
This is a fairly large company, which made it even more shocking.
The only thing I could come up with is that, anyone implementing these at scale (fb's competitors) has already committed substantial dollar amounts to existing infrastructure.
To leverage the minor improvements in design that will come of this, they would have to start by rolling out new facebook style racks/data centers.
Whereas, for facebook any design improvements would be easier to implement on a larger scale.
Either that or they are just do-gooders, which I highly doubt.
Do not feel down about feeling stupid or inadequate, just keep working in a reasoned manner towards your goal.
You will get there.
FWIW though I have almost no traffic to these boxes, so I've never noticed any sort of performance issues.
For anyone curious I put my modified iptables rules up at http://pastebin.com/UPL3w6FQ
Backstory:
I wrote a quick django app that watches fail2ban logs and plots a heatmap of where in the world the attacks are coming from. After watching this for a bit I found that most of these attacks originate from Chinese and Korean IP space. So I set out to block all of China and Korea.
After some googling, I found that okean.com maintains a handy SMTP Chinese/Korean iptables ruleset at http://www.okean.com/antispam/iptables/rc.firewall.sinokorea. I took their rules and modified it to drop all traffic from these IPs instead of just port 25.
Furthermore, the educational system you describe already occurs throughout many parts of the US. Test prep and the private sector is not an answer to a societal/cultural problem.
Here's an excerpt from an interview with Assange...

TONY JONES: Well, not according to the Pentagon. They're accusing you of revealing the identities of Afghan informants and putting their lives at risk. Afghan's president, Karzai, agrees with that he says 'the breach is extremely irresponsible and shocking.' Your response to those comments.
JULIAN ASSANGE: Well we have yet to see clear evidence of that. I mean the London Times is also making this allegation today and in a quite disingenuous way, for example they mention some informers' names they say they had found and with a headline Afghan informer already dead, but when you actually read the story what you see is in fact that individual that they're mentioning died two years ago.
So there's a little bit of media manipulation occurring here. In terms of the Afghan government, it's in their interests to sort of play up the irresponsible, irresponsibility of the United States that they say has been involved in sort of collecting and permitting this data to release, be released.
Now we contacted the White House as a group before we released this material and asked them to help assist in going through it to make sure that no innocent names came out, and the White House did not accept that request.
TONY JONES: So you're saying that you offered the White House a chance to go through the documents, or officials from the White House a chance to go through the documents and single out names of people at risk. Is that correct?
JULIAN ASSANGE: Yeah that's right. Now, of course we did not offer them a chance to veto any material, but rather we told them that we were going through a harm minimisation process and offered them the chance to point out names of informers or other innocents who might be harmed and they did not respond to that request which was mediated through the New York Times who was our, acting as the contact for the four media groups involved in this.
In all seriousness, this is piss poor reporting.
Like others have pointed out, this is second hand information that makes no substantive link between Manning and the 2 unnamed MIT students. Surely the reporter could have deduced from Lamo's clues who the two MIT students were and followed up for comments or quotes from them.
Even taking this story at face value there are lots of unanswered critical questions.
Was Manning taught to use the "encryption software" with the purpose of enabling him to hide stolen information?
What encryption software was sent?
The meaning of encryption software is left intentionally vague. Was the software something like truecrypt or perhaps the MIT masterminds just sent Manning a link to a firefox installer...
It's a shame that this passes for journalism.
Secondly, one need not be in a better position to make value judgements. I don't necessarily need to have ever played a game of basketball to tell you that Steve Nash is a better free throw shooter than Dennis Rodman. Just like I can tell you that being an asshole may discourage potential clients (i.e. readers).
If you think it's just me that feels this way, I invite you to read the rest of the comments in this thread.
Furthermore, I never qualified my statements to be indicative of what I like or what would work globally.
Troll better please.
Brad Pitt earns what he does because of the amount of money his movies bring in. If Mike Lee can bring in enough monies for his clients to recoup his exorbitant hourly rate, more power to him.
He should definitely tone down the ego and rhetoric a bit though.
