jbenner-radham··on I fixed a tractor using John Deere's self-repair service. Farmers aren't sold
And that’s if they even agree to pay. My wife needed heart surgery and we fought with insurance for two and a half years. I eventually had to change jobs to get a new insurance provider who would cover it.
jbenner-radham··on Afroman found not liable in defamation case
I had a gun drawn on me and was told “I’m going to blow your f** brains out” because I was a stupid teenager toilet papering a house when I was young. That’s when fight or flight kicks in and logic goes out the window. Needless to say I didn’t fight.

Are those numbers in the article somewhere? From what I read it says that out of 7,062 cases, the platform was known for only 1,824. Then it says Snapchat accounts for 48% (not 54%). I don't see any other percentages.
jbenner-radham··on Show HN: Kraa – Writing App for Everything
Pretty neat, good job! It doesn't seem to support Setext headings though unfortunately.
jbenner-radham··on GitHub is removing the Trending Repositories page
Thanks for the response! Looks like I have a new project to start on this weekend.
jbenner-radham··on GitHub is removing the Trending Repositories page
I haven't looked at the GitHub API in a long time but I wonder if it would be possible for a 3rd party to replicate this functionality using the GitHub API.
jbenner-radham··on Ask HN: Can I see your scripts?
This is a really simple script that I use to save a few keystrokes when I'm querying a package.json from the CLI. It depends on JQ. e.g., pkg dependencies, pkg version, etc.

  #!/usr/bin/env sh
set -o errtrace; set -o errexit; set -o pipefail

  if [ -n "${1}" ]; then filter="${1}"; else filter=''; fi
  jq ."${filter}" package.json
jbenner-radham··on Play with TailwindCSS in the Browser
If we're being pedantic technically it's npm and not NPM ;)
jbenner-radham··on Odyssey Game System (2021)
Had one as a kid too. It was my intro to video games so I've got fond memories of it. It's funny I had a lot of fun with the games but didn't realize until years later that a lot of the games we had were just clones of more popular games.

They do sell directly. However unfortunately the OLED Switch is currently sold out: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/nintendo-switch-oled...

The Matias Ergo Pro Keyboard is similar and costs $200. I’ve got one and it’s been great.

jbenner-radham··on An Update on MDN Web Docs
I have not. Apparently it was a limited time run. :(
jbenner-radham··on An Update on MDN Web Docs
That’s too bad, I wish I knew about it while it was still active.
jbenner-radham··on An Update on MDN Web Docs
Wow you weren’t kidding. I went to the payment page at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/payments/ and it says they only have 44 monthly supporters. I’m going to donate now though, thanks for the heads up on this.

Edit: Unfortunately It appears that you can’t donate to MDN anymore because the “manage payments” page 404s.

jbenner-radham··on PEAR PHP site breach lets hackers slip malware into official download
Interesting, thank you for the insight.
jbenner-radham··on PEAR PHP site breach lets hackers slip malware into official download
I haven’t done a lot of PHP coding over the past couple years so I am admittedly out of the loop. That being said, I’m slightly surprised that PEAR is still around. Composer usage has been so utterly dominant that I think the last time I encountered anyone using PEAR was around the PHP 4 days. Just curious what it’s actual usage is like as opposed to my anecdotal experience.
jbenner-radham··on Jeff Hawkins Is Finally Ready to Explain His Brain Research
I just finished my first read through of that book last night after having had it in my “backlog” for years. I’m kicking myself for not reading it earlier. It really was a fantastically intriguing read and definitely recommend it to anyone interested in the subject matter.
jbenner-radham··on Facebook to ban misinformation on voting in upcoming U.S. elections
I once saw an interview conducted by I believe Tucker Carlson with Bill Nye regarding climate change. It was obviously conducted entirely in bad faith and was just painful to watch. Every time Bill Nye would begin to answer a question the host would cut him off with random nonsense like “Isn’t it true Mr. Nye that you’re not even a scientist?!” and the process repeated until completion. It was obvious that it was pushing a completely biased tribal narrative and was not concerned with logical analysis and discussion. And yet sadly the video was uploaded with a title along the lines of “Tucker Carlson Destroys Bill Nye” with a majority of the comments disparaging Mr. Nye. So I’d have to agree with you that there are definitely a non-trivial amount of the populous that cannot be swayed by facts or discussion and instead stick blindly to their “team” of choice.
jbenner-radham··on Gut directly connected to brain, by a newly discovered neuron circuit
I can totally relate. I sustained a wrist injury about 10 years ago from physical trauma which requires me to wear wrist braces constantly to this day so help manage the pain, weakness, and shaking. I’ve seen more doctors than I can count about it and I’ve yet to even receive a diagnosis. They just all assume I have carpal tunnel despite numerous tests which say otherwise just because I’m a programmer. When their carpal tunnel theory doesn’t pan out they just give up yet somehow every single one of them won’t admit they don’t know what’s wrong. I’ve researched as much medical material regarding my issue as I can and take notes to present to them since I’m not educated enough in the medical domain to go beyond potential causes so I present those notes along with diagrams of the pain locations and locked muscles as well as photographs of related skin conditions. And even then when I do research and present my findings to help guide them along the way I still have to fight them to even attempt further diagnostic techniques. It’s a frustrating issue and it’s something I’ve been wracking my brain with on how to help address it in anyway I can.
jbenner-radham··on Machine Learning for Drummers
In my anecdotal experience I only know the names of various percussion by sound because I was a drummer in band class at school. My friends weren’t taught that in the general education program though. That could possibly vary by region though.
jbenner-radham··on Guidelines for Brutalist Web Design
For accessibility it’s recommended to not justify text since it’s difficult to read for people with dyslexia.

Maybe it was the medication you were on but my medication most definitely greatly improved my ability to focus and actually reduced my anxiety. But like I said we could have been on different medication, have different body chemistries, etc.
jbenner-radham··on Show HN: Xmysql – One command to serve REST APIs for any MySql database
Thank you for that link. I’ve read through Roy’s original dissertation but apparently missed some of the details. This post helps clarify things.
jbenner-radham··on Show HN: Xmysql – One command to serve REST APIs for any MySql database
Isn’t that HATEOAS and not REST specifically? I don’t remember anything in Roy Fielding’s dissertation specifying any type of response body.
jbenner-radham··on Show HN: Xmysql – One command to serve REST APIs for any MySql database
What are you referring to when you say “no link in sight” in regards to REST?
