jcurtis··on Java's new AOT cache feature is in a rough state
They can definitely be pretty messy in some ways; even the standard library doesn't work out of the box perfectly. I have certainly struggled to get image manipulation with java.awt (e.g. thumbnail generation for a fairly standard web use case) to work in a native image.
jcurtis··on Steam Machine launches today
This would only make sense if everyone has equal ability to pay.
jcurtis··on Project Gutenberg – keeps getting better
You may already be aware, but SE marks all commits making those kinds of changes as '[Editorial]', so it is generally trivial to use their tooling to build your own high-quality ebook without any of the editorial changes.
jcurtis··on Nvidia-smi hangs indefinitely after ~66 days
49 days is a bit under 2^32 milliseconds... So unsigned int overflow?
jcurtis··on Indie game developers have a new sales pitch: being 'AI free'
Mods using AI to clone voice actors' voices without their consent or explicitly against their wishes has certainly been controversial in the Skyrim modding community.
jcurtis··on Let's Take Esoteric Programming Languages Seriously
This is the description of the episode, not a transcript. And 'raisin detour' is fairly obviously a joke.
jcurtis··on Moving PHP open source forward
Most of the things you listed are plugins which can be disabled in the plugin settings - certainly databases, docker & code-with-me.
jcurtis··on Apple lacks strategic vision
Podcasts were arguably mainstream back in 2014 with Serial.
jcurtis··on Tesla must pay portion of $329M damages after fatal Autopilot crash, jury says
The tube follows fixed tracks, which is quite different from cars on a road.
jcurtis··on Britain's Latest True Crime Thriller: Who Killed the Sycamore Tree?
I suspect that the user you're replying to was joking
jcurtis··on Reflections on Distrusting xz
It's Mr Tulip, of Terry Pratchett's The Truth.
jcurtis··on Standard Ebooks
Editorial commits are all marked as such and contain no non-editorial changes. The tools for compiling ebook files are available at https://github.com/standardebooks/tools, so creating your own versions with only the work you're interested in is straightforward (and can be at least partially automated).
jcurtis··on Lazygit: Simple terminal UI for Git commands
Unless I'm misunderstanding your comment, this feature is actually included in the latest EAP/beta releases[1]. There is discussion of it at the bottom of the issue you linked.
