jdkdnfndnfjd··on How Unix Works
I wish I had read this years ago. It’s very hard to find sensible high level overviews of technical things like this. Excellent.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Low-wage work is pervasive, there aren’t enough “good jobs” to go around
Back in the first half of the previous century it was insanely easy to make good money. It’s because we made steel and manufactured everything in the world. And because automation was highly limited and there was nowhere to outsource to relatively speaking. It was a miracle. I’m not sure things will ever be as good as that again.

But that era left people with this crazy entitlement as if it were normal for things to be so good. Historically it is not normal I think.

When I look around I see a ton of stupid people but very few jobs that are well suited to stupid people. Now it’s normal for stupid people to go to college in a humanity and get a job in some kind of administrative role. It seems like the world is being infected with stupid people. With welfare and modern medicine and technology, the only thing that is required for genetic proliferation is a pulse. I often feel uncomfortable about where all this is headed. Especially because it seems like people who point out this “idiocracy “ effect don’t ever seem to get any traction.

jdkdnfndnfjd··on StyleGAN2
It makes me feel ill to see computers doing things like this. Aidungeon was difficult to stomach as well. GANs were invented on a whim by a single person. Nobody thought it would work when applied to this kind of problem. It came out of nowhere. Pretty soon someone will try something on a higher order task and it’s going to work. We are opening Pandora’s box and I’m not sure that we should do that.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Rolls-Royce Touts Nuclear Reactors as Key to Clean Jet Fuel
Solar is way better for this. Producing jet fuel can start and stop which is perfect for solar. Powering houses has to be constant
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Elon Musk wins 'pedo guy' defamation case
How is this not the consensus? This guy said on national television that Elon musk is a psychopath who has no empathy for dying children — that the submarine was purely a cold and calculated PR stunt. This is the embodiment of defamation. A stupid, brutish thing to say and it’s not factually correct to boot. And then he tops it all off by telling Elon musk he should shove the submarine up his ass. Seriously fuck this guy. In my opinion Elon musk should sue him for defamation.

But nobody cares about Elon musk because hEs RiCh So FuCk HiM

jdkdnfndnfjd··on A Week in the Life of a McDonald’s Cashier
This makes me literally laugh. McDonald’s employees will destroy whatever they are given control over. In the past, smart people could get out. But with automation we need to change our views because then people really will be trapped in these kinds of jobs. Ubi or something.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on A Week in the Life of a McDonald’s Cashier
This is an excellent policy. I think people should also be forced to live in a dangerous ghetto before voting to take away my guns and capital punishment. I wasn’t a staunch supporter of either of those things until I had experience with situations that they are relevant to.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on AGI Has Been Delayed
> so what does this say about predictions that AGI is right around the corner?

Literally nothing

jdkdnfndnfjd··on Clear backpacks, monitored emails: U.S. students under constant surveillance
I agree with none of that. You’re flat out wrong about schools. People from Russia for example who transfer often make note of how amazingly viscous American high schools are. There is a massive difference. Massive.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Clear backpacks, monitored emails: U.S. students under constant surveillance
Some good points but I disagree. I got caught up in a situation where I really needed a gun. You say that guns aren’t useful for street crime. That just isn’t true. My experience made me an overnight 2A advocate. It’s insane that we give all this power and leniency to criminals and strip innocent people of the ability to stand up for themselves. Nobody will ever convince me that guns don’t help because I have lived it. I am living proof that that isn’t true. And it’s a shame that people in liberal communities have to live it in order to understand it.

There are countries with guns and low crime. Uk has no guns but a stabbing epidemic. The key to public safety is preventing crime with good education, opportunity and very generous disincentive, preferably a swift execution for violent crime.

For my particular situation, in the USA, the people who want gun bans are the same people that refuse to let police do stop and frisk. So it just doesn’t make sense for me to give up my right to have a gun. We shouldn’t need a ban in the first place. It’s other things that cause the underlying violent behavior.

You are so right about the civil suit. Especially in liberal states, you might as well just shoot yourself instead of the bad guy. But that’s a problem with the legal system, not guns. The legal system in general is responsible for all kinds of problems. A person who loses their case should have to pay the other persons legal fees, too. Lots to change. In the meantime I’ll defend myself in a way that is legally sound and with a gun camera that automatically captures an image of the guy attacking me before the trigger is pulled.

jdkdnfndnfjd··on Clear backpacks, monitored emails: U.S. students under constant surveillance
So the vast majority of gun death happens because of illegal guns and yet the problem is that guns are legal. The wretched cesspools that we call public schools are creating a bullying environment that makes kids suicidal and in this way kills lots of kids (some of which translate their despair into murder-suicide) and yet it’s our 2A right that we should dismantle, not the public schools? Our kids are an international embarrassment and cannot even point to Tunisia on a map. And the most famous school shooting of all time, the one that started it all, columbine, sources it’s guns from an illegal gun dealer, not the home and yet it’s my right to defend my home that needs to be infringed?
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Clear backpacks, monitored emails: U.S. students under constant surveillance
I will never give up my right to carry a weapon. Liberals say they want to ban guns and then they turn around and foam at the mouth when cops try to take away the guns if it’s a black persons guns. I would consider giving up guns if liberals would let cops do stop and frisk. Or let cops do anything really.

But liberals don’t care because they live in their mansions, far away from any danger. And rich SV CEOs throw money at anti capital punishment efforts while they relax in their mansions where they are sure to never encounter anyone that it might be used on.

jdkdnfndnfjd··on Clear backpacks, monitored emails: U.S. students under constant surveillance
There are guns around. Kids that want to shoot up schools could very easily gain access to one. And yet it doesn’t happen. Violent behavior is not a product to access to guns.

What year did you graduate high school? I graduated 2010 and I cannot agree with you more. Public schools are a demented crossbreed of daycare, zoo with some prison culture mixed in.

Recently I’ve had a change in opinion though. I started volunteering at a daycare because I am so passionate about the shortcomings of public schools. And working with the kids has made me realize that most of them have no problem with public schools. Most of them aren’t smart enough to benefit from better education. True intellectual curiosity is very rare. And most of them enjoy the petty games of social hierarchy that dominate in public schools.

The one aspect of my opinion that hasn’t changed is that there should be more discipline. Bring back the paddle and rules. Boys need it psychologically, order and structure and consequences.

The vehicle already weights 6k. And it wouldn’t add thousands. Polycarbonate would weigh a lot less. Bullet proof glass is designed for bullets and weighs a lot. Just replacing TV the glass with polycarbonate would make them virtually unbreakable and weigh a lot less.

Elon musk tweeted a joke that Tesla semi glass will withstand a nuclear blast or you get a full refund. It was a joke dude. You are really dumb.

What he actually claimed is that the glass won’t crack if a small rock hits it. The cost of the tougher glass is less than the average cost of downtime caused by cracked windshields. Truckers aren’t allowed to drive with cracks. So in reality there is some really straightforward logic behind the glass.

jdkdnfndnfjd··on Ketogenic diet helps tame flu virus in mice
I have no idea. If I had to guess it would be metabolic problems with neurons that can’t use sugar or an inflammatory thing. But I haven’t got any idea what it might be. Maybe we’ll know someday.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Something Changed at Tesla
It’s used for towing large and high drag trailers and off-roading. It was definitely a good call to prioritize other things. If you want to do a road trip then use a 3 or an s.

There are like five video clips online of the glass withstanding greater impacts. Tough glass is not science fiction. It is well within the capabilities of anybody to take some bullet proof glass or thick poly carb and stick it in the window. So saying that this glass is all marketing doesn’t make any sense. Literally anyone could do it. Many already do. It isn’t a new thing. People get tougher glass installed after market literally all the time.

jdkdnfndnfjd··on Something Changed at Tesla
At least I’m honest about it. You try to shut me down by shaming me and insinuating that I’m ignorant. Shame is just as invalid as insults. And I’ve brought a lot more logic to the table than you have.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Ketogenic diet helps tame flu virus in mice
I haven’t stayed on it longer than a month. I often wonder if I stayed on it forever if the effect would wear off. There are case studies where people are put into remission for years.

This whole article and it’s sentiment is wrong. It’s a good example of a person who is not capable of thinking from first principles or who never watched the reveal. Which describes basically everyone’s reaction to the truck.

What is a truck? A utilitarian vehicle. Does aesthetics add utility to the vehicle? No. Does it cost lots of money to make the car look swoopy? Yes. Does it increase the utility to give the vehicle an exoskeleton rather than a traditional frame? Yes. Should we make the car swoopy instead of making it an exoskeleton? No.

Literally every logical angle points to doing what they did. They maximized utility and minimized cost. Is this a good formula for a regular car? No! Is this a good formula for a utility vehicle? Yes! Are there lots of idiots out there who like to daily drive “utility vehicles” for their commute? Yes!

Doug D reviews the car and said it costs too much. But he only ever compared the upfront cost of the trucks. You save money on fuel and maintenance with an ev, and his omission of that was glaring.

People saying strong glass is bad because first responders. If I want to have strong glass then that’s my right. And living in the sf Bay Area, I don’t just want strong glass I fucking need strong glass. Elon musk shared a video on twitter of the glass resisting a 1kg steel ball being thrown at it. When it broke on stage it was a fluke. And 9mm resistance would also be really nice. Apparently Doug D never visited Oakland.

I have gone on and off keto many, many times with no pattern in timing or duration. Each time, t he psychotic symptoms emerge and recede with the same quality, in the same amount of time and so on. There is no other pattern in anything that might also cause this. People are not known to go in and out of severe psychotic symptoms so regularly and suddenly in the absence of drug use. It cannot be a coincidence that my symptoms nap to ketosis without exception. it absolutely warrants some kind of inquiry at the very least. I don’t take drugs. I don’t drink alcohol. I don’t have any encounters of any kind with psychoactive substances. I’m smart enough and well educated enough to recognize “confounding factors” and it’s extremely frustrating to be disregarded after all my careful thought and effort.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Ketogenic diet helps tame flu virus in mice
You don’t get it. I had severe, debilitating psychosis. And ketosis took that situation and turned it into being a happy and productive person. You don’t understand what it’s like to experience a miracle. It’s not just “working for me,” it’s a miracle. This is like if I cured my terminal cancer and I told someone and they just said “that’s interesting but don’t tell people.” I’m telling you I had psychosis and I cured it. Doesn’t that warrant at least some kind of investigation or inquiry? You don’t mention any kind of inquiry but you go out of your way to tell me that I shouldn’t be saying anything? Keto isn’t dangerous for non diabetics. There’s no reason at all people with psychotic symptoms shouldn’t try it. I highly encourage people to try it. As for the doctors, maybe they would recommend it if they would listen and actually investigate it.

These are case studies, not studies. But they are valid and interesting. My story could be a case study.
jdkdnfndnfjd··on Ketogenic diet helps tame flu virus in mice
PSA: keto appeared to cure my psychosis.

A while ago I experienced a traumatic event. Immediately I had sleep disruption and slowly I began to have textbook symptoms of psychosis. It was horrible and unpleasant. I went on keto and the symptoms went away. I stopped due to side effects and the symptoms came back. I went back on and the symptoms went away immediately. And on and off for a long time, with a perfect correlation between the two. The doctors who diagnosed me with psychosis don’t care that keto does this. I told them that I have figured out how to cure my symptoms and they just give me a blank look. They prescribed me an antipsychotic which I have never had to take although I have come close to needing it a few times. I tell them there are other people who have written about similar experiences and they don’t care. So I have to get the word out like this.

The psychosis is curbed within 24 hours of starting keto. Sleep disturbance persists for about five days. After five days it’s as though nothing had been wrong at all.

I get a really bad rash after a couple of days of keto. This is a well known side effect of keto although it is uncommon. I’ve tried various things, the only one that worked was applying drysol prior to keto, preventing the rash-prone areas from sweating. This gives a clue about the rash, which is important because no studies have been done and its cause has not been determined. If I didn’t get this rash I would happily stay on keto forever.

There’s never been a study about ketosis and psychosis. There’s one being done in Finland right now, although the sample size leaves much to be desired. I’m in contact with the primary researcher and the paper might be released as early as one *year from now.
