jeltz··on Kalshi and its co-founders face felony charges for violating Utah gambling laws
Especially since what Kalshi is doing has existed for 25 years in Europe (we call it betting exchange) and been licenced as sports betting. It is nothing new other than them doing it without licence and that they are more generous in accepting weird market types.
jeltz··on Schools that block Google A.I. will lose student access to its search engine
The changed link is even more problematic.
jeltz··on Google will turn off search for schools that reject AI
Yeah, that is not ok at all. Flagged this post.
jeltz··on Jepsen: ParticleDB 1.1.4
I second this. I wish more people spoke up against gross negligence abd incompetence like this.
jeltz··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
No, you love to break it to people.
jeltz··on PaperPilot – Zero-Cloud, Pure-Rust PDF Engine with WASM and MCP
Vibecoding your own PDF engine is choosing none of them.
jeltz··on America has lost 200k of jobs in media, film and the arts. How much is AI?
Maybe if we lower the quality a bit more it will finally work.
jeltz··on ASML's strong orders ease fears AI spending boom is running out of steam

Or companies want the market to think they are expecting demand.
jeltz··on Deloitte falsified documents to evade tax on Abramovich's wealth
Yeah, I should have clarified that in this particular thread there was no reason to suspect the Trump fanboys being guilty of the downvoting.
jeltz··on Deloitte falsified documents to evade tax on Abramovich's wealth
I did not assume that. In this case Trump felt quite off-topic so I almost downvoted myself but I have seen many other threads where Trump supporters were plentiful, both in downvoting and posting comments.
jeltz··on Deloitte falsified documents to evade tax on Abramovich's wealth
Yeah, I have noticed that there are surprisingly many Trump supporters here given the international audience of the site.
jeltz··on Deloitte falsified documents to evade tax on Abramovich's wealth
Not only. They are also used when a CEO wants to do something and needs someone to produce evidence supporting what the CEO already wanted to do.
jeltz··on Type-safe HTML templating in Zig
Yeah, I feel Andrew's tooth brushing argument is quite weak here. It is basically the same as the defence of C's error handling, which Zig fixed.
jeltz··on Type-safe HTML templating in Zig
Cancellation in Rust is problematic too but for other reasons than cancellation in Zig is problematic. Maybe there is just no free lunch here, but hopefully it can be fixed in Zig and Rust.
jeltz··on IRCv3
Is there any proof that normies would not be on board with it? Discord is information dense and huge among normies.
jeltz··on Nix wrote half of my debugger
Yes, this just confirms nämy view that Nix, as it is right now, is bad.
jeltz··on IRCv3
Which is never if the person you messaged did not have a bouncer or their bouncer crashed.
jeltz··on IRCv3
Very bad is pretty harsh for the possibly least bad chat app that I have used. I don't like the centralization on Discord but the reason it is popular is because their app is better than the competition.
jeltz··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
Fibers? Yes, they are easy to protect. The hard part is power generation.
jeltz··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
The war in Ukraine had showed us that distributed power generation, like solar, and nuclear are most resilient. Nuclear because people do not dare striking the power plants.
jeltz··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
> Weird underground datacenters aren't exactly known for having a large number of competing on-net carriers.

Huh? The ones I know of have plenty of connectivity. The real issue is your first, that people prefer to just put their stuff in two countries over paying premium for having their servers under ground.

jeltz··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
Pionen is small but it is quite a bit bigger than "a couple of dozen racks". More like 100-200 if I recall correctly.
jeltz··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
You mean exactly like Iran did?
jeltz··on Pointing AI at archives found a forgotten meteorite, lost rhinos, and more
Why didn't _you_ respond directly to the negative comment?
jeltz··on A statement on the Tor Project's relationship with Mullvad
Örebro Party is also pro-surveillance.
jeltz··on Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 to Navanethem Pillay
Yes, but what has that to do with this year's winner?
jeltz··on OpenAI withdraws three mathematical results
I hope we discover a solution before innovation totally stalls, but I do not think any solution has been found yet. And I agree that halting AI is unlikely to be the solution because even if we halt the big companies China for example can still do AI.

Some people hope AI will get good enough in a few years that it can innovate without human experts. Maybe? But that remains to be seen.

jeltz··on Best-selling Zigbee temperature sensors tested and compared
But name of chip would be a decent way for people to get a rough idea for if the manufacturer have change it so to me that seems like a useful piece of data.
