jerjerjer··on Securing our frontier model training environment
Sure, derived findings can be published (that's often one of the goals after all), but original artifacts are never expected to leave the premises.
jerjerjer··on How is music possible
Doesn't have to be social to be enjoyed though.
jerjerjer··on Securing our frontier model training environment
Yes, but artifacts created in these air-gapped networks are expected to stay there. This is not true for AI lab models, who would get access to the internet once live.
jerjerjer··on Jailbreaking the Switch 2
Reasonably sure you'll be able to do the same with DeepSeek in a year if not already.

Awesome. How did you prompt it? In my experience generated long texts quickly turn sloppy.

Also would be great to get an article from other side of the eternal broadcast.

jerjerjer··on AX – Google’s Open Agentic Orchestrator
I think that's a very Silicon-Valley-centric view of an idea lifecycle.
jerjerjer··on AX – Google’s Open Agentic Orchestrator
Well, presumably AI lowers the bar for entry so more people (and very specifically people with revolutionary ideas, but without corresponding implementation skills) could get in on the action.
jerjerjer··on Uber is laying off 10% of staff
> Does this magically unblock people?

Yes? Removing and/or minimizing detractors/hangers-ons/randoms from a project is an important part of running a project. Especially in corporate scenarios where telling people to go pound sand is, unfortunately, not an option, more elaborate strategies must be employed.

> If coordinating teams creates as much problems and impedance as you claim, how come Uber hired them to begin with? I mean, either Uber was shooting itself in the foot then, or it is now. Which one is it?

Are you thinking that humans can predict behavior and evolution of social systems, and especially how they would behave after some change is forced upon them?

In my opinion, that cannot be further from the truth. Any sufficiently complex social system, which Uber with 30k+ employees definitely is, exists and evolves more or less independently from how any one individual part of this system might wish. Even if it's a CEO.

Uber leadership thought cross-team coordination would help them, so they hired a bunch of people to do it. That might have been a correct idea at a time, or at least on paper, it looked like a correct move. But in the end, it did not pan out. So they probably shot themselves in the foot back then. Did they shoot themselves in the foot now? Who knows? (Spoiler: no one) We'll see once enough time has passed.

jerjerjer··on Uber is laying off 10% of staff
People whose primary job is to "coordinate" often, either in a well-meaning attempt to be thorough or just to be relevant, try to pull as many different people into any decision-making as possible.

So instead of me just getting approval from my manager, I need to get approval/buy-in from departments A, B, and C.

In that case, firing the "coordinator" person increases velocity because parts of the business processes they prop disappear.

jerjerjer··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
"inexplicably" was obviously a sarcasm.
jerjerjer··on Show HN: 1667, a terminal UI for writing fiction with language models
Is it SillyTavern but TUI or is the flow different? I know SillyTavern is more dialogue focused, but surely it can be configured for novel writing instead?

Not sure why you're getting so much hate. Internet is already chock-full of slop, a new TUI-based tool is not going to make it measurably worse.

And yet, inexplicably it does.

jerjerjer··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
We had replaceable batteries in phones for years. There's no reason battery replacement has to involve 20 steps and require ungluing the screen.
