jibly··on How I Hacked My Startup
tnx
jibly··on How I Hacked My Startup
Very good question. A couple of ways to answer this:

- Luckily you will never run out of tactics. Reason for this is because their are constantly new things being launched that you can use for your business. Twitter, FB, Pinterest, Didn't exist 10 years ago, yet now are extremely useful in helping your business grow. So one of the things we do is constantly stay up to date on new emerging technologies that you can use to your advantage.

- Second is I'm currently working on a 'growth dashboard'. This will be rolled out to all TractionVC users. It's a place where you can organise tactics and in a better way collect the ones that seem to work for you. This way you will get a better understanding of what's working and what not.

- Some (most) tactics are repeatable. Meaning: Guestblogging, increasing your traffic in different ways, it will keep staying important. With the dashboard, it'll be easier to build your marketing strategy, without having to hire someone else to do it for you.

Eventually, when you go big, you don't need TractionVC. It's really to help you get you going. Pro products are also in the pipeline to keep users even when they grow, part of the community.

jibly··on Ask HN: What did you do today to grow your startup?
My startup: www.traction.vc Thing I did to grow today: add "Pay per tweet" to see if it increases traffic by increasing sharing.
jibly··on How I Went from “No-Idea” to “Profitable” in 15 Hours (including 6h of sleep)
that is indeed a very good tactic. Not only does it help you make some money, you get key insights into your clients mind. the words they use, the benefits they want etc. Which, if you would turn it into a startup, are extremely helpful, because then you want to scale it up on a large scale, so using the right words and speaking to the customer in a way he/she feels connected with your pitch is important.
jibly··on How I Went from “No-Idea” to “Profitable” in 15 Hours (including 6h of sleep)
luckily its not my first venture :) and its not about some magical advice, like explained on the site, it's about continuous experimentation to figure out what works for you and what doesn't.

To grow your company you don't need magic. you need discipline. That's what Traction.vc is about.

jibly··on Show HN: TractionVC – Weekly Growth Challenges for Product-Focused-Entrepreneurs
awesome! here's the story behind it in case you're interested: https://medium.com/@jibly/how-producthunt-helped-me-go-from-...
jibly··on Show HN: Traction.VC – Weekly Growth Tactics for Product-Focused-Entrepreneurs
Product focused entrepreneurs (like myself) tend to lose themselves in building the next feature, improving the code, designing a better logo... They forget the single most important part of their business: Growth.

Traction.VC is for those (like me) who need weekly reminders + actionable tactics to apply that week, so you can keep growing your business (because you have to) by having a service telling you exactly what to do that week, and still spend your time working on the product and doing what you love.

jibly··on Ask HN: How would you improve the online Freelancing marketplaces?
What if the client would set the budget, and that's it. And the freelancers that propose to do the job, don't bid with lower (or higher) prices, but simply show their work. This way the client would choose between the most appealing portfolio, rather than the lowest (or highest) price.
jibly··on Ask HN: How would you improve the online Freelancing marketplaces?
Because there is a bidding system involved in this process, if you would bid $25 for example, than a project of $10 doesn't make sense. So I thought I'd be nice to have a minimum. But up for ideas.
jibly··on Ask HN: How would you improve the online Freelancing marketplaces?
This is based on my own experience and I've been reading this here on HN a dozens of times. High-end freelancers have smaller chances (not zero, just less) to get projects through sites like Elance and Odesk. It usually seems to be race to the lowest, where quality becomes secondary in most cases (not all)

tnx for the valuable info! Reading through it right now. Very much appreciated!

jibly··on Ask HN: How to increase your chances as a freelancer to get paid projects?
Will start out 2 times a week but I expect to ramp it up to daily jobs being posted. I am marketing it to those people as well yes, but first need to have a significant database of developers.
jibly··on Email I received last night is one reason I no longer work on freelancer markets
Wow this is pretty insane. It's crazy how those sites seem to have lowered the standard of freelancers significantly. I also find it nearly impossible for a pro freelancer to not be competing with $5h guys that are mass replying on jobs (and usually get them). You should check out: http://www.cnnected.com an experiment to (maybe) solve this problem.
jibly··on Rethinking Low Completion Rates in MOOCs
I just recently launched a startup trying to take on this challenge of low completion rates in MOOCs: www.madrassa.co (you can read more in the about section concerning this insane dropout rate of MOOCs)

jibly··on Ask HN: How to increase your chances as a freelancer to get paid projects?
Location could be one way. But will have to see and test
jibly··on Ask HN: How to increase your chances as a freelancer to get paid projects?
I'm thinking of making it for european/us freelancers only. Not entirely sure yet. But all ideas are welcome or other platforms that are tackling similar ideas to see what they are doing to solve the problem.
jibly··on Show HN: Cnnected – (Paid) Projects for Designers and Developers
A little experiment.

I wanted to create a new way of connecting developers & designers with paid projects. Sites like Elance make freelancers compete with $5h workers. Only a handful of clients don't get trapped in selecting the cheapest proposal. High quality freelancers are not able to raise their hands higher to increase their chances of getting picked...

With Cnnected, I wanted to take a different approach. Giving freelancers control of who and how many get introduced to potential clients. And clients get to judge potential leads by seeing who had the highest bid and willingness to take the project as well as their portfolio and quality of other work they've already done.

Looking forward hearing feedback/ideas from the community so we can help more professional freelancers get the projects they deserve.
