jisaacks··on ECMAScript 4: The Missing Version
I covered ES4 in my book, Get Programming with JavaScript Next. ActionScript 3 was basically a real world implementation of ES4.
jisaacks··on Ask HN: What are some books where the reader learns by building projects?
I wrote "get programming with JavaScript next" the whole "get programming" series ends each unit with a let's build a project to encapsulate all these ideas.
jisaacks··on Why Water Is Wet
I forget what they are called, but I have heard of places that immerse you in total darkness and total silence and have you float in water that is the same as your skins temperature so that you feel like you are floating in nothingness. I never went but want to try it sometime. So I cannot say if it works or not but at least according to these places you would not feel the water. I wish I could remember what they were called. We have one here in Atlanta.

EDIT: found it based on SCHiM's comment: http://flo2s.com/floating/what-is-a-float-tank/

jisaacks··on The Fatal Pinch
Can you please explain the numbers 2.0+, 1.4-1.5, etc. when referring to a programmer's skill. I have never seen this before.
jisaacks··on Please don't denigrate what a beginner is currently learning
Or objective c!
jisaacks··on Apple Deleted Rivals’ Songs from Users’ iPods
The main reason I prefer purchasing on iTunes vs physical CDs is that I do not have to purchase an entire album to get the one song I like. I know there are singles CDs, but usually just for certain hit songs.
jisaacks··on Google is developing cancer and heart attack detector
Sergey Brin makes the list but not Bill Gates?
jisaacks··on What's the Biggest Animal Gathering Ever?
When I was stationed in D.C. in 2003/2004 we had a swarm of cicadas that year that was remarkable. People on the subway literally had them crawling on their backs. The roads and sidewalks were paved in their corpses. I lived on the 9th floor of an apartment and the sound even at that level was very loud.
jisaacks··on Twitter sues U.S. government over ability to disclose surveillance orders

jisaacks··on 6 Reasons to Use Netbeans IDE
I used to use Netbeans before moving to Sublime Text, there was only really one thing I missed, the way it showed changes in the gutter.
jisaacks··on The Most Unconscionable Drug Price Hike I Have Yet Seen
> and now the cream is $120.

What about tinactin, lamisil, lotrimin, monistat? They are all anti fungal creams OTC for about $10. Is this prescription you had 12x as potent?

jisaacks··on Microsoft is killing the Nokia and Windows Phone brands
I don't understand the surface branding either. When I hear Microsoft Surface I still think of those table tops.
jisaacks··on Coffee naps are better than coffee or naps alone
> I can fall a sleep in 1-2 minutes, and wake up without alarm after 15-20 minutes

Any advice on how you were able to achieve this ability? I always try to take a quick nap but can never fall asleep fas t enough for it to be effective.

jisaacks··on Inside the Dark, Lucrative World of Consumer Debt Collection
Then wouldn't these individuals not even care to pay f their debt at .10 to the 1.00?
jisaacks··on Polaroid Cube
Wonder how strong the magnet is. For example, would it fling off if you swung a driver it was connected to? Wondering since they show it on a putter.
jisaacks··on Two Girls, a Golden Balloon, and Fate
This was a story on radiolab titled stochasticity: http://www.radiolab.org/story/91684-stochasticity/
jisaacks··on For $10,000, your car can drive itself – Cruise (YC W14)
> monthly fee for an actual human driver.

I can find someone to drive me around for a month for way less than 10K

jisaacks··on For $10,000, your car can drive itself – Cruise (YC W14)
Being that this is marketed as a sort of cruise control++, I would suspect the same party who is liable when an accident happens while cruise control is engaged.
jisaacks··on Amazon Fire: Design Best Practices
> -Can- we have simulators for Amazon Fire apps given that they're 3D?

I am sure it could be wired up to follow the mouse as if it were a moving head.

jisaacks··on Amazon Fire Phone
> Searching via photos is awesome, but the only use case it seems well suited for is shopping.

If I was bitten by a snake, spider, etc. I'd love to be able to snap a picture to quickly identify it and know whether or not to rush to the ER.

jisaacks··on Rolls-Royce is designing drone ships to challenge $375B freight industry
I can only image the frustration of someone lost at sea watching one of these slowly drift right passed them and no way to get on board and no crew to signal for help.
jisaacks··on How to Convert a Digital Watch to a Negative Display
According to the time difference in the before an after shots, it looks like this takes ~4 hours to do?
jisaacks··on Supreme Court to hear arguments on Aereo this week
I thought the same thing, that they had decided. This is the title of the original article though.

jisaacks··on Firefox Dev Tools: Box model highlighter, Web Console improvements
I thought you were referring to a way to connect my terminal to the browsers console.

Because it is the only comment.
jisaacks··on GitHub's new text editor leaked on Twitter
I like my (GitGutter's) concept of displaying removed lines better. This screenshot makes me think line 11 was removed. But I am looking right at it!
