jlansey··on Bike Bureau: Report Bike Lane Obstructions
Thank you so much! Yeah a friend sent me the link thankfully :)

Go here to download the data: https://loudbicycle.com/bb/download

We just launched last month, filtering out old data is a GREAT suggestion, will get it implemented ASAP thank you.

The BLU founder met in person with the local Cambridge bicycle people last June (I was there) and they made it extremely clear to us that (for legal reasons) they will never share their data with us. I'm talking about not just a heatmap in a browser, with this data https://loudbicycle.com/bb/download you can make visualizations like this:

https://mass.streetsblog.org/2026/08/12/fed-up-with-blocked-...

Also - BLU does great work manually reporting top offenders and doing many other things too. The 311 reporting that BB does is not the same, it is automated and goes through official city channels that is _supposed_ to be result in immediate enforcement. Again not meaning to cast shade, just literally recounting what was told to me directly face to face.

Hi I'm the creator! Not open source yet but that's the plan. Already have data dump implemented for admins, might open that up too. Happy to have contributions to add more cities. Right now the sticking point is getting API keys... Because a lot of cities like New York and Chicago have systems but they also restrict access.... Honestly not sure how to get more API keys more quickly but probably local people on the ground would help.

Dm your GitHub and I can add you!

in my book, this is a success

If you use this in Oslo, you would be the first international report!

Bike Bureau makes official-311 reports in ~30 cities, and our data is open for activists to use. Also our UI reduces time to report by a lot.

BLU keeps their data secret and no reports go to officials. They do great work though and I'd love to share BB data with them.

Which city are you in?

So far a single Boston 311 report has been closed with a ticket... Out of something like 300 reports... So yes?? Also a cop in Brookline has confirmed receiving them and acting on it though we don't have any evidence to corroborate that with.

This app connects to 311 in Boston! Makes it easier to submit.
jlansey··on Bubblewrapture: The Million Bubble Countdown to the Popcalypse
A huge million bubble roll of bubble wrap. Pop bubbles synced in real-time with a go server and redis. Just launched yesterday and already more than a hundred thousand popped - will the popcalypse happen before the new year?
jlansey··on Show HN: Neptunes Heart – an astrology site you can rig to say what you want
Thank you!
jlansey··on Show HN: Neptunes Heart – an astrology site you can rig to say what you want
So this actually is two sites in one: * Neptune's Chart a fairly boring natal chart interpreting site, put in your birthday and get an astrology reading (free and paid versions, no signup)

* Neptune's Heart it's ridiculous counterpart site where you put in a birthday and a "cosmic whisper" you want to secretly appear in your targets astrology reading on the chart site.

No guardrails on it for now (outside of regular LLM guardrails) good luck have fun!!!

jlansey··on GTP-3 drafting copyable sweet, saucy and psycho (and rejection) text messages
Hand crafted a series of prompts for GTP-3 for sweet, saucy messages and romantic rejection messages. For psycho messages I used one-shot training to add bits of saucy-spice to each of the sweet messages.

http://www.saucysms.com/

Here is an example of a sweet message:

> Hey there! I was just thinking about you and wanted to let you know that I love you more than anything in the world. You mean everything to me and I can't imagine my life without you. I hope you have a great day and I can't wait to see you tonight. Love always, your Darling

Example of a rejection message:

> Hey, thanks for letting me know that you're interested in me romantically. I appreciate it, but I'm just not interested in pursuing anything with you in that way. I hope you understand.

The purpose of the project is to be a bit thought provoking and hopefully humorous - since it is now pretty easy to generate quite emotional content - and we can ponder the consequences if someone were to use this technology in making real connections.

One interesting thing - sweet messages to women are way more often over the top using exaggerated near-poetry language compared to sweet messages to men.

jlansey··on Uncanny Valley Vineyards – wine reviews by GPT2 might surprise you
OP here I fine-tuned the deep learning neural network GPT2 from OpenAI, using this [Google Colab notebook](https://colab.research.google.com/drive/1VLG8e7YSEwypxU-noRN...) by Max Woolf and using these [130 thousand real wine reviews](https://www.kaggle.com/zynicide/wine-reviews) collected by Zack Thoutt.
jlansey··on Can you feel empathy for a UUID?
it could be a big PR boost if they did :P
jlansey··on Can you make music with strangers? Online interactive art.
Hey all, first hacker news post. My friend made this interactive art website. You click to make noise. Its more fun with more people, enjoy!
jlansey··on Google Invests in Satellites to Spread Internet Access
Lets hope this doesn't provoke China to destroy another satellite in orbit. The last time they did that 150,000 debris particles were smashed into orbit.
jlansey··on Visualize Execution with Python
this is cute. I prefer the way it is implemented in LightTable (for clojure and eventually python) where you don't actually have to click anything. The execution is visualized as you type.
jlansey··on 800 Years Of Human Sacrifice In Kent
no need to look back in horror - the Chibok kidnapping for example happened a few weeks ago; for religious reasons. "preventing" premarital sex and even banning gay marriage seem like more of a first world problems when compared with the barbaric crimes that occur with tragic frequency - today.
jlansey··on Poor Man's 3D Printer
The peachtree is one of the most innovative printers out there. Their drip system to remove one expensive stepper motor and moving platform is genius in my opinion.

The poor man's 3D printer looks to be a bit larger and is probably faster to print.
