jlelse··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
I use the Opencomm in my quite home office as well. No hot ears anymore. :D
jlelse··on Safari's date-picker is the cause of 1/3 of our customer support issues
It's not just the date picker in Safari. iOS in general... I don't get it why I need to uninstall and reinstall an app from the app store when I want to clean the app's data like I can easily do on Android. Why is there no way to clean caches? Instead a big chunck of the storage is filled with "other system files". And the keyboard is so error prone as well, I always do spelling mistakes or need hours to type short texts. At least it's just my work phone...
jlelse··on BundesMessenger, a secure messenger for Germany’s public administration
You can use the "Online-Personalausweis" for quite some things actually. For example to authenticate at banks, so you don't have to do Video-Ident. Or to do taxes etc. I wrote a post about it earlier this year: https://b.jlel.se/s/59c
jlelse··on Bunny AI
I wish they would finally release their S3 support for storage. (https://jlelse.blog/links/2022/12/bunny-ai)
jlelse··on Use NextDNS everywhere you use Tailscale
Do you plan to support custom DoH/DoT endpoints?
jlelse··on Ask HN: Is having a personal blog/brand worth it for you?
My blog (jlelse.blog) is absolutely worth it for me for the following reasons:

1. I enjoy sharing things with the world. 2. I got to know a lot of people who wrote me mails because I posted something. Some really nice connections with people from all over the world. 3. I learned a new programming language by developing my own blog software. 4. In job interviews I can tell about developing my own blog software with new technologies.

But I just post when I want to and what I want to. That can range from tutorials to just a casual images I took when walking through my neighborhood.

jlelse··on GitHub Copilot is generally available
$60/hr? Maybe in the US, but really uncommon even in western countries like Germany.
jlelse··on The integrated timetable of Switzerland
Yes, but in Germany you probably don't travel 8 times as much.
jlelse··on High speed train between Paris and Berlin could start operating as soon as 2023
That's great news!

But there are already train routes with >6 hours in Germany. I sometimes take the train from Berlin to Basel (CH) from just a few stops away from Berlin and when there are no problems that's a 6 hour trip. With the car that would be >7 hours.

jlelse··on Mastodon – A Federated Twitter Alternative
Thanks for the tip! I have a Nitter instance, but didn't know about this.
jlelse··on Ask HN: Have you used SQLite as a primary database?
I'm using SQLite for my blogging engine (https://goblog.app). Easy backups, easy testing, light resource usage and probably faster than a separate database.
jlelse··on Ask HN: People who use different emails everywhere, who sold you to spammers?
Contentful was hacked and leaked my email.
jlelse··on I’m Disappointed with 1Password
Just use Bitwarden.
jlelse··on Why I will never buy another Samsung device
I am very happy with my S10 Lite as well, also received Android 12 recently. With some PC software it's possible to uninstall Bixby and the other bloatware even without rooting.
jlelse··on Ask HN: Great Blogs by Programmers
I'm ok with that, not everyone has to like my blogging style.
jlelse··on Ask HN: Great Blogs by Programmers
Shameless, but I'm a programmer and this is my blog: https://jlelse.blog/
jlelse··on Ask HN: Alternate Email hosting to G Suite
Purelymail has calendar syncing using CalDAV.
jlelse··on The New York Times buys Wordle
I hope this ends the hype. I'm a bit annoyed seeing Wordle guesses everywhere online.
jlelse··on Gov.uk Platform as a Service
Thankfully that changed since 2020. Now many bakeries accept cards.
jlelse··on A Few Email Thoughts
I tried all of them except of Protonmail, which doesn't support IMAP. Fastmail is fine, Zoho is really cluttered and Purelymail is my current favorite.
jlelse··on Ask HN: How to build a light weight personal blog?
I can recommend my own blogging software GoBlog.

jlelse··on Fiatjaf/nostr – a censorship-resistant alternative to Twitter
Why so complicated? Just setup your personal website with RSS feeds.
jlelse··on How Telegram Messenger circumvents Google Translate's API
On iOS Telegram uses a system API, but on Android they seem to try to avoid the high Google Cloud fees: https://jlelse.blog/posts/telegram-translation
jlelse··on How Germany became Europe's cargo bike hub
Totally agree! I have to get my bike up and down stairs as well. But instead of a cargo bike I use just a normal bike with trailer. A lot more flexible.
jlelse··on How Germany became Europe's cargo bike hub
Typo, sorry.
jlelse··on How Germany became Europe's cargo bike hub
It's true, cargo bikes are everywhere here now. But it's only practical if you have a garage or another ground level storing place which many people in cities don't have.
jlelse··on Tailwind CSS v3.0
Which template languages are supported? I wasn't able to find any information about that.
jlelse··on Tailwind CSS v3.0
Is it possible to use the JIT feature with Golang template files?
