Some privacy settings for GrapheneOS:

johnnyballgame··on A vibe-coding tool for serious developers
Curious to know how this possibly made it to the front of HN.
johnnyballgame··on NIST ion clock sets new record for most accurate clock
What is that true value? And was it accurate?
johnnyballgame··on NIST ion clock sets new record for most accurate clock
Does it come with a snooze button?
johnnyballgame··on How to Delete Your 23andMe Data
I just can't understand who in their right mind, and is even remotely concerned about the privacy of their personal information, would upload their own DNA to a business. An internet-based one at that. Lemmings, I tell ya.
johnnyballgame··on The 8-Bit Era's Weird Uncle: The TI-99/4A
Same here. I specifically remember staying home "sick" from school just so I could transfer those COMPUTE! programs from paper to screen and eventually to cassette tape! Still have the entire setup except for the 13" Montgomery Ward TV it was connected to. I owe my entire tech career to my parents buying me that little TI from Shopko in 1983.
johnnyballgame··on How about trailing commas in SQL?
Trailing commas are stupid no matter what language they are in.
johnnyballgame··on Red Hat and Microsoft Bringing RHEL to WSL
That's nice. What about Slackware?
johnnyballgame··on Inside the "3 billion people" national public data breach
Extreme Privacy by Michael Bazzell is a great resource to learn how to limit exposure to these aggregator services.

johnnyballgame··on Remembering the LAN (2020)
Brought back frightening memories of running a 10BASE2 network on LANtastic. Any one bad connection and the whole network came down. So much fun to troubleshoot.
johnnyballgame··on LINQPad – The .NET Programmer's Playground
+1 Beyond Compare. It's been on my list of must installs for every new system I've set up for many years.
johnnyballgame··on Ask HN: What 1980s/90s-era shareware did you purchase?
I was a very long time user of TextPad as well. I just had to go look it up and am pleasantly surprised it's still being updated. Though, the copyright on their website still says 2020.
johnnyballgame··on .NET Blazor
RIP FoxPro.
johnnyballgame··on DAK and the Golden Age of Gadget Catalogs
I had forgotten all about DAK! Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. I still have some of those cassettes stashed away somewhere. I can only imagine what's on them. ha!
johnnyballgame··on MS-DOS v1.25 and v2.0 is now open-source (2014)
And FoxPro! :)
johnnyballgame··on Heathkit
I remember my dad building the depth-finder/fish-finder. We always had it in the boat with us. Who knows if it ever really helped us find fish, but we sure had fun with it.

Side note - I really miss that you can barely buy RC car "kits" anymore. Everything now comes RTR (ready-to-run). And that takes most of the fun out of it, for me at least.

johnnyballgame··on Mastodon Has Already Won
Agreed. I know of not a single person in my life who even knows what Mastodon is.
johnnyballgame··on Is something wrong with Amazon Photos? I lost 240k photos
Install iCloud app locally and sync them. Then backup your local folder to another device or cloud. Backblaze B2 is a great cloud option for raw storage.
johnnyballgame··on Ask HN: What is your fav “I can't believe in 2022 this still doesn't work right”
Stating the obvious... There are billion$ to be made in this thread.
johnnyballgame··on Ask HN: What is your fav “I can't believe in 2022 this still doesn't work right”
Disconnecting / reconnecting a Windows laptop from a docking station.
johnnyballgame··on Ask HN: What is your fav “I can't believe in 2022 this still doesn't work right”
Version control of Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
johnnyballgame··on Ask HN: What is your fav “I can't believe in 2022 this still doesn't work right”
"Windows could not reconnect all network drives."
johnnyballgame··on Ask HN: What is your fav “I can't believe in 2022 this still doesn't work right”
Where to even start with this... Ok, how about with Microsoft Outlook? The "undo" after deleting or moving an email works about 10% of the time. Sometimes it recovers the message, but most of the time it either does nothing or even better, brings back a totally different message!! smh
johnnyballgame··on Vuescan – Software support for 6500 abandoned scanners
I first started using VueScan around 2000 with a Nikon LS-30 film scanner and hundreds of crappy APS cartridges. I've never had to pay a dime for updates ever since. And they are put out regularly to this day. Hats off to Ed Hamrick for a handy piece of software that just does what it's supposed to do.
johnnyballgame··on Tell HN: I let my 6-year-old daughter design my website
Love it! Better looking than most corporate templated websites these days.
johnnyballgame··on Show HN: Cascade Timeline Maker
Very cool and well done!

Feature request #1 - color coding different types of events.

johnnyballgame··on Laptop stolen from Pelosi's office during storming of U.S. Capitol, says aide
Optimistic thinking. Chances are it has many PDF and PowerPoint files scattered on it. And probably a shared user account where the files fill up a Windows desktop.
