jopython··on Man overcharged 20 rupees for India train ticket wins 22-year legal battle
Talking about incompetence, Why are most Indian government websites look like they were designed in the 90's?
jopython··on Does the Tank Have a Future?
Long range missiles are expensive. ATGMs require you to be closer (2 miles or less) to the target which means the operating crews are vulnerable to the same tanks and other mortar fire which they are trying to kill.

I think long range artillery (> 50kms) is the solution.

jopython··on The housing market needs more condos
The math is clear. You don't gain any equity by paying rent.

jopython··on Stray bullet kills English astrophysicist visiting United States
The 'obsession' comes from the 2nd amendment which has no equal in other countries.

Why stop at 'Basic income'? Why not 'Basic Housing', 'Basic Food' and others?

jopython··on Man dies after he is shot by the police with a stun gun and catches fire
> We hold all firefighters to the standard of having the physical strength to break down doors and carry people to safety

Keep in mind. Firefighters are not fighting people with delirium. Its a different job with a different skill set.

After the George Floyd case cops are hesitant to go one on one. Nobody wants to end up becoming a Derek Chauvin even by accident.

jopython··on Ask HN: What tiny purchases have disproportionately improved your life?
I use a blue light blocking screen on my monitor to get the same effect.
jopython··on Ask HN: What tiny purchases have disproportionately improved your life?
I am not sure if cooking food inside a plastic bag is healthy.
jopython··on JWT Tokens are NOT safe
Rightly said.
jopython··on JWT Tokens are NOT safe
The author mentions that "One popular solution is to store a list of “revoked tokens” in a database and check it for every call. And if the token is part of that revoked list, then block the user from taking the next action. But then now you are making that extra call to the DB to check if the token is revoked and so deceives the purpose of JWT altogether."

I believe the author is 'assuming' the devs are not using a db to validate revoked sessions.

jopython··on Why Clojure? (2018)
Most of the clojure libraries i found were suffering from bit rot. Looks like the community is shrinking.

jopython··on Tectonic – TeX/LaTeX Engine in Rust
I depend on minted which needs shell-escape. So this is a bummer.

Even better, try reduce(fold) first.
jopython··on Inciting Violence vs Freedom of Speech
The US Supreme court has overruled that before.
jopython··on Awk vs. Perl (2009)
There is no reason to deal with multiple flavors of Awk when you have Perl, especially when you are working with different operating systems. That and Perl's regex which is the defacto across multiple languages, made me completed do away with Awk.
