joshmarinacci··on A few thoughts on intensity (2024)
Startup success comes from making a product that customers will pay for. Full stop. Intensity can be a way to find that, but no amount of intensity will change the fact that most startups make products that no one wants to pay for.
joshmarinacci··on Ask HN: What's your favorite thing you vibe coded for your own personal use
That looks really useful. Cool!
joshmarinacci··on Ask HN: What's your favorite thing you vibe coded for your own personal use
How good are the predictions? Have you made any trades on this data?
joshmarinacci··on Nordwand Mono – A monospace font for coders and adventurers
3270 terminals from GT? From the old Rich building? Who are you?!
joshmarinacci··on AI is a tool and using it well takes skill
LLMs are a technology, not a product (or tool). In five years the underlying technology will look similar to what we have today, but the way we access it and the usage patterns and the interface (the product) will be completely different. If we are still interacting with LLMs through chat in five years I will be severely disappointed.
joshmarinacci··on Earth Tipped on Its Side During the Age of Dinosaurs–and Not Just Once
The earth wobbles. It doesn’t “tip”.
joshmarinacci··on Polyedergarten: Garden of Paper Polyhedron Models
VRML? That's a name I've not heard in quite some time.
joshmarinacci··on Why is the liver so weirdly regenerative?
Many if not most of these oddities about humans come down to either they don’t affect reproduction, or because humans are social animals. Menopause makes sense because a grandmother will have more successful descendants if she stops having babies and helps her daughters with the grandkids. I would guess the few other species that exhibit menopause are also social animals.
joshmarinacci··on Why is the liver so weirdly regenerative?
Adult onset Type 1 has become a lot more common in recent decades. Ask me how I know.
joshmarinacci··on A 386 PC for Your RP2350
Wow. How can it do this without an MMU?
joshmarinacci··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
I like the concept. Your website needs screenshots.
joshmarinacci··on How we manage and engage with our horses shapes their personality
This shouldn’t be surprising. Horses are almost as smart as dogs, and dogs personalities are heavily dependent upon their upbringing.
joshmarinacci··on A few good ideas in programming languages
Programming language innovation is measured in decades. I expect LLMs will make it easier to prototype new concepts, but adoption will still progress on a human timescale
joshmarinacci··on How to build a printer
I love the concept, but I wonder why he wasn’t printing to PDF. Can this device not render PDFs?
joshmarinacci··on WebMCP Challenge – OpenAI
I don’t understand the point of WebMCP. Any website that you could do interesting things with programmatically either already has an API or doesn’t want to provide programmatic access for business reasons. So who is this for?
joshmarinacci··on Claude writing a macOS driver for my obscure HP printer built only for Windows
I was able to get Claude to write an embedded Rust driver for an unsupported epaper screen in a couple of hours by providing it with the spec and some existing C drivers. It’s still not as fast as the arduino versions, but it let me make progress in a project that I’d been stuck on for months.

Reverse engineering seems like an AI sweet spot.

joshmarinacci··on The mathematical beauty of hyperbezier curves
These are an exciting new curve. I’d like to hear about how they will handle stroking. The inside and outside stroke of a Bézier curve can’t be represented with a Bézier curve. How do hyperbeziers fare?
joshmarinacci··on ESP-Claw
I don’t understand what this is for? Does it help you code esp32 programs or does it use an esp32 devices sensors as input to LLM sessions. Or something else.
joshmarinacci··on Quake – 30th Anniversary Update
Is this an update for the original quake or do you need one of the newer ones?
joshmarinacci··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
If you were to count the margin of everything it would be 100%. At the end of the day everything is either a resource harvested from the earth or human labor.
joshmarinacci··on Kraid is a now a real compiler
What devices are likely to benefit from Kraid? Are Arm Mali GPUs mostly in Android phones?
joshmarinacci··on We Need a National Ballroom
Nicely done.
joshmarinacci··on Em dashes are amazing
I am overjoyed with how many commenters we have here who enjoy talking about typography.
joshmarinacci··on IRGC claims it destroyed Amazon's Bahrain data center
The alternative is what the last five American presidents have done: containment. There's a reason Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton and Bush didn't start the war that Trump did. This is why.
joshmarinacci··on What happened to TheNumbers.com
A change in quantity can become a change in quality.
joshmarinacci··on Codex Micro
This is just a Macropad, right? All of the smarts are on the PC side. So why is it so expensive?
joshmarinacci··on I rewrote PostHog's SQL parser, 70x faster, while barely looking at the code
I love that it doesn't feel like every other vibe coded VC backed startup.
joshmarinacci··on Our Achilles Heel
What was this article about? It described a thing and then gave some examples. No advice. No call to action. Just some rambling. A better question is why is this post on the front page!
joshmarinacci··on Stdx, Rust's extended standard library
I like the idea of an extended standard lib for Rust, but coding was never the hard part. The hard part is getting everyone to agree what should be in it. If you can get everyone to agree to an api then the rest can easily be filled in (with or without vibe coding).
joshmarinacci··on The Field Guide to CSS Grid Lanes
I love Apple’s efforts to implement web standards and document them well, but I really don’t understand the use for grid lanes. Is there anything I can use it for besides Pinterest clones?
