jseip··on Israel used Palantir technologies in pager attack in Lebanon
Why is it inappropriate to be outraged that international humanitarian laws are actively being violated by Israel, in Gaza? Can someone help me understand?
jseip··on Israel used Palantir technologies in pager attack in Lebanon
"please verify that you're feeling something different—quite different—from anger and a desire to fight this war."

Um, why is it inappropriate to be outraged that international humanitarian lwas are actively being violated by Israel, in Gaza?

jseip··on Plane crashes, overturns during landing at Toronto airport
1) Descent rate was way too high. 2) No ‘flare’ 3) left wing angled upward forced right landing gear to absorb all force, resulting in hard shock to the body and then ground roll, tearing off both wings. 4) If 1-3 are true, landing pilot (could be actual pilot or FO) is incompetent 5) Thank god everyone got out alive

Plant nerd here. Pre-ordered one of these and was not impressed. Checkout flow loses a step and shipping is almost as much as the cost of a pre-order.
jseip··on Observation of zero resistance above 100 K in Pb₁₀₋ₓCuₓ(PO₄)₆O
"It's not that extraordinary."

How is that possibly true? LK-99 is already amongst the highest-temperature superconductors ever found (with that claim substantiated by at least two independent research teams as of this moment).

jseip··on Leaked Amazon memo details plan to smear fired warehouse organizer
The definition of smear: "to damage the reputation of (someone) by false accusations; slander." Where is the 'smear ' here? Amazon has not made, or planned to make, false accusations against this worker.
jseip··on Sequoia Capital memo to their portfolio founders on Coronavirus
Agreed. Constraints force innovation. On the whole, Coronavirus is an unfavorable turn of events for the global economy but many companies will be stronger for it.

Amazed by the R&D expense of $380.3M especially because I'm not aware of substantive innovations that they're bringing to market. How has / will that investment translate into new technology or a technically superior product?
jseip··on 'Alien Alloys' in The New York Times' UFO Story
Sad to see this (clickbait) story come from SI. No substantive refutation of the evidence, just speculation and the truism that atomic components of any alloy can be identified, which of course they can. But alloys -and nanomaterials- can and do have extremely interesting properties independent of their chemical composition and these are often non-obvious. SI completely glosses over that point.

Also, famously, Tesla does not use LiDAR. Not to mention, there are plenty of 3rd party LiDAR vendors whose equipment could be used to substitute the design in question.
jseip··on Enroute Airbus A380 wake flips Challenger business jet upside down
EDIT: this is the net downward displacement of air sufficient to equal the A380 850,984lb max landing weight assuming a ballpark air density of ~0.075 lb/ft^3. The aircraft displaces much more air via its engines, fuselage and secondary effects, but the above number seems most relevant to the Challenger 604 ~1,000 feet beneath the aircraft :).
jseip··on Enroute Airbus A380 wake flips Challenger business jet upside down
The physics of this are insane. Then again, by my calculation the A380 displaces roughly 11 million cubic feet of air per second at the max landing weight.
