The above comment is an excellent example of political gaslighting, there is ample, undeniable evidence of some sort of GOP collision with Russia. No sane person looking at the evidence could come to any other conclusion, but by confidently stating the exact opposite of the truth the above commenter seeks to sow doubt in the mind of a potentially disinterested or confused audience. This is a an increasingly common tactic on these boards.

Obama lowered taxes, in fact no Democratic president has raised taxes during my lifetime (I'm 25). It's pretty strange people always claim this is a thing when it's just flat false.

This somewhat anecdotal, but the biggest issue I had when living in the suburbs was traffic. I'm someone who has driven hundreds of thousands miles and never been in an accident, but the extreme levels of fear and stress I got from going even short distances in the suburbs was just aweful.

I didn't always feel this way, but I think the use of cellphones has created and environment where even slow moving drivers are unpredictable. I now walk to work and frequently see people on their phones while driving, if a line of ten cars are stopped at a light at least three people are on their phones. The result isn't an extreme increase in accidents but a constricting deficit of attention which incrementally lengthens every encounter on the road. More short stopping, more people missing green lights or just driving super conservatively and not merging holding up traffic.

Also I never use my phone while driving, but the fact that I can't even look at it when I know someone is trying to contact me is incredibly frustrating and impacts my enjoyment of driving.

The thing is it's not even really an argument, it's a rationalization. It's so strange to me that someone would even try to argue that life expectancy doesn't reflect the quality of health care. what conceivably could be gained by attempting to prove such a counter-intuitive thing?

"By any means necessary", was in retrospect an inflammatory statement, which I should not have used. I don't believe violence is necessary, or even helpful in achieving a moral society.

As for judgements about the morality of others, this is my opinion. I don't apologize for it. I know I'm unlikely to be directly persuasive using this moral judgement as an argumentative tactic, but to make people conscious of the intangible, quasi-spritual ramafications of their political beliefs does at least as much good as simply getting someone to believe what I believe.

As for my dignity, perhaps I'm more sensitive then most, but this feels humiliating for me. I will not protect a man who would grab, my sister, my mother, my daughter and rape her with his hands. End of story.

The Trump mindset is will never be shut down it's returned again throughout history leading to death and bloodshed whenever it takes hold, we can't stop people think the way they do because hatred and xenophobia are part of human nature, but that is not the nature of our American society. I am liberal and economically, fortunate man, I stand nothing to lose of my own by the polices of Trump, if every immigrate is deported and every Muslim is killed, I have no reason to fight against these things, except my belief that to cause the suffering of the innocent is evil.

While one can never truly speak to a man's character, his behavior is evil and will, in time, be punished, if not by us then by a greater power. That power whether it economic, foreign, in the legacy we leave as Americans, or possibly even an angry god, it will judge him and us as well for our complacency.

One thing very few people consider about writing in cursive, is that it is much harder to do if you are left handed. As a left handed person this annoys me.

I think however it's not enough to conclude that consciously avoiding using antibiotics provides a net gain.

It, in my mind, becomes a bit of an economics question if you consider the trade-offs. Not dosing cattle could to food poisoning which could lead to higher human consumption of antibiotics.

I also have a fear of this becoming a panic, much like the anti-vaccine panic which leads people away from getting proper medical treatment.

I thought this would be some people's reactions because they don't want to address the science. It could very well be possible that we are under prescribing antibiotics to the point where they can stay in the population long enough to develop immunities. Everyone seems to think this a crazy idea, but can't produce a shred of evidence to refute it.

Or she doesn't use it and the strain spreads to ten other people who use antibiotics and start developing resistant strains.

I think when the law is not influenced by societal consensus it becomes a farce. In many ways the societal consensus on morality is law wheather it maintained by the state, vigilantes or in this case a legal fiction which is some combination of both.

I think our modern education system has done more to blunt people the curiosity of young people then these drugs possibly could.

It's interesting that the findings in this article are an unintended benefit of a study on smell. Makes you wonder if any other studies have important data like this where data was simply discarded because it wasn't relevant to the initial hypothesis.

I believe this at least partially driven by internal politics. Dr. Xi was very, very unpopular. The reaction to his indictment on the Temple University subreddit was very indicative of this.

Hello everybody, I was an intern at the Center For Science, who are organizers of this reproducibility study. It's kind of strange to me that the COS's first mention on HN is this study when they have been working on a large open source project for a few years now, but it's obviously a welcome surprise. I have very bad posture since I was a child. I have tried many, many different stretches and even physically therapy, but nothing has been as effective as simple jogging. Recently I've decided to solely focus on jogging (40 min) after a cup of coffee and the decrease in back and neck pain has terrific, as well as showing more strength in my core muscles. I think caffeine is very important component in my exercise because if I don't take it I find myself falling back into bad posture habits even while jogging which subtly constricts my breathing.
