jwillmer··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
I did a different thing. when parallel work gets to much I add a manager agent Infront. it manages all requests and coordinates with me.
jwillmer··on ESP32-C3 Adblock
pinhole is great but if the device fails your network is down. I swapped to nextdns because of that. maybe support of multiple devices would fix it - now that is this cheap it would not matter .
jwillmer··on Portal by Spotify cut my Claude Code token usage by 90%
I also currently run multiple Claude sessions with Fabel as the brain coordinating the manager sessions which in turn spawn sub agents.
jwillmer··on Using AI to write better code more slowly
Check out jwillmer/ai-status at GitHub @bottlepalm. It helps keep track of all the small fixes that are going on simultaneously. I crated the tool for me since I have similar workflows.
jwillmer··on Show HN: Files.md – Open-source alternative to Obsidian
This is great. I build a Ai status page [1] based around MD files and included obsidian as option. Will look to support this as well.

jwillmer··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (March 2026)
We recently started home renovation and needed a todo app to keep up with the tasks. I noticed that the existing todo apps are annoying to use and lacking a good ai integration. So I started vibe coding my own app. Fully offline capable and with ai integration at its core.

I run it at https://ferdig.de

jwillmer··on n8n.io - A powerful workflow automation tool
After the license change we switched to Elsa and contribute code together with other companies that made the switch. https://elsaworkflows.io
jwillmer··on Show HN: Portable Secret – How I store my secrets and communicate privately
I did something similar in the past and called it emergency contacts [1]. Basically a encrypted json that can be decrypted online. I use it to store emergency contact information in case I got stranded without any own device at hand.

jwillmer··on Each visit to the page deteriorates the main image
I did something like this in reverse a while ago. Every day the page will paint one pixel till the image reveals itself: https://jwillmer.de/blog/programming/every-day-a-pixel
jwillmer··on Comcast: Simulating shitty network connections so you can build better systems
On Android we use Throttly to mess with the network: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twocities.t...
jwillmer··on Ask HN: Share your personal site
My personal blog ^1 using the Jekyll engine with a custom theme I made ^2. All hosted on GitHub and secured with Cloudflare. Simple publishing workflow and zero hosting costs.

jwillmer··on Show HN: PDF API – Generate, convert, and modify PDF documents
We need to offline convert HTML to PDF. We created a small docker container with Chromium and Selenium and added a small HTTP API layer on top. Works like a charm and it is easy to keep it up to date.
jwillmer··on Ask HN: Who wants to collaborate?
My company offers digital processes solutions - like dynamic checklists - for remote locations (vessels, trucks, airplanes, inspections) with no (constant) internet connection. Get in touch with me if that is something your park could benefit from.
jwillmer··on We Switched to Mattermost
We used MM in the past and switched to Zulip. The docker upgrade path of MM is a pain and lacks support. (They switched to a new postgres version without providing any upgrade tutorial.) But honestly if you like to use a team chat to get work done Zulip works the best. The thread tagging inside a group and the keyboard support makes it easy to follow different conversations in a stream.
jwillmer··on Ask HN: What are you working on?
A inventory app with additional fields for manuals/pics. I have many small electronic parts from China that I need to keep track of the documentation and the stock. The documentation is particular hard to find online if you don't download it when buying.

The app is designed as a PWA and runs completely offline. Everything is stored in cache. You can connect a ChouchDB to sync across devices and have a backup.

Nothing to demo yet but I plan to host the app for free and take some small amount for the database connection if the user does not want to host/connect to their own.

jwillmer··on Raspberry Pi Server Mark III
I used the following case/setup and can confirm. No fans are required and booting is lightning fast. https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/40852-pi4-case-stand
jwillmer··on $30 DIY Kilowatt Wind Turbine (2017)
I currently also looked into a DIY wind turbine design and found the following design worth trying out: http://mumris.eu/bumerangai/dekoratyvus%20bumerangai1_files/...
jwillmer··on RaspberryPi 4 home lab with LXD cluster
I paid 25€ for a 120GB KingSpec Portable SSD. A link to the shop I was buying from is in the link above.
jwillmer··on RaspberryPi 4 home lab with LXD cluster
Pi4 is now officially supporting boot from USB. I bought a cheap SSD from China and can confirm that it works flawlessly. I use this configuration for my home lab: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/40852-pi4-case-stand

Edit: Test results can be found in the link.

jwillmer··on This Blog Is Now Running on Solar Power
I'm currently working in my spare time one something similar but with a focus on a water tight box with a solar panel that I can place anywhere: https://jwillmer.de/blog/projects/independent-iot-system-par...
jwillmer··on Textures.js is a JavaScript library for creating SVG patterns
Somewhat related I created a we component for CSS3 patterns: https://github.com/jwillmer/pattern-component
jwillmer··on Asian countries take a stand against the rich world’s plastic waste
I watched this documentary about the world leading company in sorting all kind of waste. I'm afraid it's only available in German: https://youtu.be/6g1KNlXPbDo
jwillmer··on Fake review factories that run on Facebook and post five-star Amazon reviews
Would you mind adding an option to change amazon country?
jwillmer··on Well-Architected Monoliths Are Okay
The investors I know and have to work with are mostly no technicians. They scan the news for investments and reported problems in growing business. If you can convince them that you thought about scaling issues and know how to solve them then they come up you should be fine :)
jwillmer··on Well-Architected Monoliths Are Okay
I hear this quite often but the case is that if you are looking for financing the main technical concern of the investors is how (and if) your application does scale - talking about SaaS. If a SaaS gets popular the new user load can be quite heavy and in the past there were a lot of story's about companies that needed to rebuild there system because of this (I think pipedrive was the last example I heard of). Although it makes sense to ignore scaling at the beginning you need to design your application in a way that you can easily transition to something that can scale.
jwillmer··on Google Dataset Search
Since we have already a nice reference list of open data portals by country I like to add the German portal: https://www.govdata.de/
jwillmer··on Google Workers Urge C.E.O. To Pull Out of Pentagon A.I. Project
As someone who is hesitant of using (free) cloud services there you pay with your information I really like that there are some thoughtful and aware people working at Google. If it turns out that they have the power to affect decisions like this in there company I might choose to use more Google products.
jwillmer··on Switching from 1Password to Bitwarden
I seam to have a bad timing moving my password from Chrome to bitwarden:

- Password export (button) in Chrome (62) is not available

- Importing passwords from Chrome to Firefox works

- Exporting password from Firefox Quantum (57) is not available

jwillmer··on How Firefox Got Fast Again
I just wanted to know if the containers will be automatically synced across devices.
jwillmer··on How Firefox Got Fast Again
Do they sync?
