Hi
submissionscomments
kapitti··on How much money should my company raise?
Came to post the exact same thing. With 20-30% going to insurance/benefits, taxes, misc costs - that's an amazingly low number....even more so considering they're in SF.
kapitti··on Beautiful Time-Lapse of Milky Way over Lake Tahoe
The number of shooting stars amazes me.
kapitti··on Should Tumblr care? David Karp tells users who complain to "go away"
> You can't have a PR team and a customer service department that makes sure everybody gets a nice reply.

Do you really need a PR/CS team to ensure people get a nice reply? Shouldn't that just be something that a /very nice guy/ would accomplish naturally?

kapitti··on Ask HN: How to step up my coding skills?
Building something doesn't teach you much about quality if you don't have someone to review/assist every now and then.
kapitti··on Founder Control
Isn't a dozen a small percentage of total YC companies?
kapitti··on TechStars Launches Ten New Startups In Seattle
Interesting that TS would fund 2 companies basically doing the same thing: https://www.usingmiles.com/ & https://gomiles.com/
kapitti··on Tell us your naughty stories
There's quite a few airports around the world where you'll run into this sort of scam. In Guadalajara, I've had to pay a "fee" to board a flight that I already had a seat on. In Bangalore I had to pay another fee so that my luggage would not go missing or be damaged.
kapitti··on A sick CEO's full disclosure
I didn't get that feeling from the article at all. My brother actually has multiple myeloma as well; he's checked every 3 months to see if the blood levels have spiked and a skeletal survey is done every 6 months. It's almost a certainty that the cancer to start eating away at your bones and you not know it between the skeletal surveys.
kapitti··on Yes, PHL/BOS/CHI/SEA/NYC/BLT/XYZ does Web startups
I always thought there was a decent community in Dallas, or maybe Alex Muse just convinced me of that.
kapitti··on Doing Y Combinator in your 30s
I'm not sure someone that was going to perform short term contracting during YC would get accepted.
kapitti··on Leftronic (YC S10) Dashboards Optimize Your Data Displays
I've seen lots of BI tools used for creating dashboards in Fortune 500s given that most of the data is secure in random databases, mainframes, etc - the most popular of late is QlikView.

kapitti··on YC has just closed a new $8.25 million fund
That's a pretty steep management fee.
kapitti··on [dead]
I always assumed it was Matt Maroon punking us.
kapitti··on HN Members' Workspaces
Images of my old home office, it's relocated and had some additional hardware since:

I've had a 15-30 second delay after clicking onto the comments thread for a few days now.

kapitti··on Ask HN: What's the most simple way to accept monthly subscription fees?
CheddarGetter.com
kapitti··on Will single founders please stand up?
Wasn't balsamiq (Peldi) a single founder? I've founded a few startups as a single founder, but they'd most likely be classified as Micro-ISV's instead of startups. But I'm okay with that.
kapitti··on Online Subscription Billing Is A Pain. Recurly Wants To Alleviate It.
Chargify, CheddarGetter, Spreedly, Zuora, Aria Systems and now Recurly. Seems the space will get crowded quickly.
kapitti··on The Way I Work: Jason Fried of 37Signals
Any chance that those remote hobby farms actually have high speed internet available in those rural areas?
kapitti··on Startup Visa
Health care and the complications of the US tax code.
kapitti··on Tell HN: Watch YC Startup School Live
Hopefully they'll just have video recordings posted online with the slides like previous years.
kapitti··on Redfin Turns Profitable, Real Estate Industry Shudders
The realtor themselves don't make that much as it's a pyramid scheme. A realtor splits the commission 50/50 with the broker, and then pays fees (advertising, listing, business expenses, etc) out of their 50%. Take out taxes as well, and real estate, in most markets, ends up being a minimum wage job.
kapitti··on 2009 Rails Rumble Registration Open
The Lame Ducks will be defending our title this year, after winning last year with MeetInBetween.Us. Bring it.
kapitti··on RailsRumble 2009 Registration is now open
Team 'The Lame Ducks', previously known as Great Lakes Geeks, will be competing again this year, defending our 2008 win (http://meetinbetween.us). Who else from the HN community will be competing this year?
kapitti··on Ask HN: How many kids do you have?
Personally, having my family to take care of as well as house/car payments makes me think about revenue much earlier in the game, and that's helped tremendously.
