karolist··on A new Go API for JSON
Did you succeed?
karolist··on Incident with Pull Requests, Git Operations and Issues
Same for me, ssh access was intermittent, but at least I have reliable local builds when GitHub actions is out but access works. With AI running Jenkins is not that hard. I build large cuda containers so cost alone ruled out hosted builds for my usecase. There's a bit of update churn but nothing broke so far. I ran around 2000 builds last year. I run it on epyc 7v12 128gb ddr4 host.
karolist··on Incident with Pull Requests, Git Operations and Issues
Self hosted Jenkins, been working wonderfully.

karolist··on The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy
based on documentary style interviews I've seen of drug addicts in Lithuania, there's supposedly no more old school heroin left on the streets, it's been pushed out by fent.
karolist··on Platform-independent SIMD in Go
Already using this for foreground estimation of cutouts in my project, around 30% speedup over non-SIMD, but the algorithm is probably not very optimised yet.
karolist··on Alternatives to MinIO for single-node local S3
I'm pretty happy with Seaweed, running that on prem, rock solid so far. Moved off MinIO when the licensing shenanigans started
karolist··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the quote was taken out of context when they were speaking about vertical integration. "We own the glass" was meant to say that they manufacture the panels themselves and not source them from a 3rd party.

Underappreciated Dropbox memory lane
karolist··on OpenLogi
The FAQ technique is LLM/SEO crumbs because people usually search for questions, if you have the exact likely question text that maps to user's search you're more likely to rank. It's unfortunate but it works, like open mouth YouTube thumbnails.

I have a Zalman ZM-1000 from 2007 that's still working, my coworker at my first job lost interest in desktop PCs and gave it away to me. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/zalman-zm1000-hp/2.html
karolist··on Cultivating a state of mind where new ideas are born (2023)
> there seems to be a violent agreement of how stuff actually happens and that it's almost never fully made possible in either industry or academia.

what does this mean?

karolist··on Meta Muse Glimmer – open weights 30B local coding model
paid 2.7k € for this same build new in Dec 2023, that was also sweet (still is)

Parent used "pulled the plug", are you saying it's applicable here and not "pulled the trigger" like suggested?
karolist··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026)
I’m working on PhotoFig: https://photofig.com, a recently launched product-photo editor for online sellers who need to clean up hundreds of images.

It was inspired by my wife having to carefully mask product photos for her online shop. Existing tools could remove backgrounds automatically, but didn’t give her enough control when the result needed correcting. So masking is a first-class feature, with SAM-assisted selection and a precise manual brush.

The backend and storage are self-hosted on hardware I own. Along the way I’ve had to solve some interesting infrastructure problems, including writing a Kubernetes operator that bin-packs GPU workloads across workers. I’m planning a technical write-up on the architecture.

karolist··on Apple won't let me show my app
Exactly. I think this may be a trap of solo development without external feedback. You can easily logic your way down a rabbit hole, and without a second set of eyes to call you out, you end up building something that makes perfect sense to you but is completely alien to an uninvested person.
karolist··on Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and 3.5 Flash Cyber
sadly it's not multimodal
karolist··on Xiaomi-Robotics-1
They also use a large ring attached to the first zipper to help the robot grab it. This is not a realistic zipper, but I do appreciate them being honest and showing that grabbing small objects is still not perfect
karolist··on Xiaomi-Robotics-1
I replied to another comment, but I do have 3 kids.
karolist··on Xiaomi-Robotics-1
FYI I do have 3 kids, no, it doesn't take that long (we share this with the wife), in a few years the kids will be able to help us with this task so it's gonna be even less time. Doing household chores is good for the kids. I wouldn't wan't this robot driving around my household when I have small children anyway...
karolist··on Xiaomi-Robotics-1
Of all the tasks I do, folding clothes takes a ridiculously small slice of my time. Is this and all the other robotics videos aimed at H&M staff?

karolist··on PgDog is funded and coming to a database near you
Love PgDog. I don't need it honestly, but using it in my on-prem k8s because I heard about you in Postgres FM podcast randomly when I had nothing to listen to on a hike in the woods and it picked up my interest.

karolist··on If you started a company two years ago, many assumptions are no longer true
The post reads like written by someone who read too much about AI rather than tried to build a startup with the help of AI that they advocate so much. I'm still bounded by system design, UX, pricing and feature decisions, if not by the speed of code output, by the review time for sure. Yes, iterating is faster, but we're nowhere near agentic AI loops spitting out working products. Technically it's possible, but then you just spent that time planning and writing the spec up front, which you'd interleave with dev time otherwise. If the product is a simple CRUD database skin, then yeah, chances of success are lower I think, but this is not the type of startups the post seems to write about.
karolist··on I've sold out
can you link to that gist? I'd be interested to read through it
karolist··on How the AI Bubble Bursts
You can have an opinion about a tool as a user, without ever having ability to create such a tool yourself, that's literally what every tech and auto reviewer does.
