kebokyo··on A Vibe Coded SaaS Killed My Team
I subscribe to a Telegram channel that posts the most recent posts on HN that meet a certain minimum karma threshold. Because it's a public channel, anyone can add emoji-based "reactions" to posts and have those reactions displayed for everyone else viewing to the channel.

The reactions as of 2025-26-25T21:51:30Z are as follows:

kiss 10; crying face 2; moai statue 2; trophy 1

The only things I can think of as to why so many people are reacting with a kiss emoji are a. people think the distorted "new girl" is hot, or b. people think the author's fursona is hot

I'm personally rooting for the latter, but I'm biased (see website for proof)

kebokyo··on No
The author admits at the end of the article that they aren’t absolute in their boycotts and that it’s hard to fully boycott certain things that are so prevalent within our lives.

It’s not that deep. Just be more mindful about what you do and what you use to do them, and you’ll find better ways to do them down the road that will make you and the people around you happier.

kebokyo··on Google Gemini is about to control your messages and calls, even if you say no
I’m surprised by how much this article reads like an opinion piece even though it isn’t.

As generative AI becomes harder to ignore, broader in scope, and even more dominant as a business trend… the people whose jobs are to write about how generative AI affects our lives have just had enough. They’re smart enough to see the writing on the wall, and now they’re trying desperately to transfer that writing onto their pages.

kebokyo··on BYOK – Bring Your Own Keyboard
This seems like something you could make yourself for under $50. Pi Zero W2, battery, cheap LCD screen, and 3D-printed case. The only exceptions would be a) the extra physical buttons (requiring a custom PCB) and the amber backlight (not sure if you can get a screen that comes with one, or if you’d need to get it separately and install it yourself).

If I had more experience in making stuff like this (and money to buy the components and other tools I’ll need to make it), as soon as I saw the price of this thing I would have started making my own clone right away and thrown the code and hardware specs on GitHub.

kebokyo··on I'm starting a social club to solve the male loneliness epidemic
It would be really cool to see more Mastodon instances that’s solely focused on people within a certain geographical area. It would be this but without the trendy startup energy.

Also if I don’t hear a single MTG Commander game come out of this project we have all failed as a species.

kebokyo··on Google is using AI to censor independent websites like mine
Who is “most people”?

AI has seen mass adoption, but trust is still low and many are aware of how it can make errors. https://kpmg.com/xx/en/our-insights/ai-and-technology/trust-...

kebokyo··on Show HN: DoubleMemory – more efficient local-first read-it-later app
What kind of “value-generating” features are you thinking of?

One big comment I want to give on that front is, if you decide to try any generative AI features, please please please make them *completely opt-in* and integrate with *local models* (either completely or as an alternative to cloud models like GPT / Claude / etc). If I can use your software happily without being bombarded with ads for AI features and can use those AI features how I want to instead of how would best make you money, I would appreciate that so much.

kebokyo··on Don't watermark your legal PDFs with purple dragons in suits
Gamers may be the most oppressed group of people… but I think furries are a close second.
kebokyo··on Amazon to display tariff costs for consumers
Never mind I am a silly little goober who thinks a little too well

https://www.axios.com/2025/04/29/tariffs-amazon-prime-day-se...

kebokyo··on Amazon to display tariff costs for consumers
I can’t read the actual article because I can’t find a way past the paywall… but I am fairly certain this is a political play.

If consumers see two products, one from China and another from Vietnam, both with their tariff markups listed, I have a feeling they’d pick the Vietnam product more often due to the lower markup. This makes Trump happy because he clearly wants us to stop buying Chinese products.

kebokyo··on A $20k American-made electric pickup with no paint, no stereo, no screen
I respect the “old person yelling at clouds” disclaimer lmao.

Honestly, I got bummed when I found out this was an electric vehicle, I wish there wasn’t a chance for my vehicle to get bricked through an over-the-air update, and I personally would like to have a basic stereo with an aux input just so I can listen to FM stations or Spotify while I haul a bunch of DIY materials around without having to install my own speakers.

My friend keeps telling me to get a truck for my next vehicle, and while this truck doesn’t make the cut for me, hopefully future trucks made either by Slate Auto or other manufacturers inspired by them will add juuuust the right amount of creature comforts to win me over.

kebokyo··on Attacking My Landlord's Boiler
if i had a nickel for every time someone said the word "objectively" to make something seem more true when it's just, their opinion, man... i would be rich enough to lobby for government-mandated fursonas
kebokyo··on I just got an ad in VS Code
Quick context questions: 1. What were you doing right before this popped up? 2. Was this unprompted or did you click something to make this pop up? If so, what? 3. Have you used GitHub Copilot before? 4. Are you signed into your GitHub account?
kebokyo··on WEIRD – a way to be on the web
yeah, the "Angetic Developers" section of their site feels. very out of place. and it's the main reason why i hate this product lol
kebokyo··on WEIRD – a way to be on the web
Their main page didn't say a single bit about their code being open source. I had to dig through the creator's GitHub to find it: https://github.com/erlend-sh/weird

That doesn't really inspire confidence in them wanting people to self-host.

kebokyo··on WEIRD – a way to be on the web
i am grateful that at least one person other than me got the memo on my bit lmao

you're right, it might not be intentionally malicious, but it still comes off as wrong due to the visual and mechanical design of the service. if you want to support smallweb, it's better to host a VPS service than a shittier linktree.

kebokyo··on Cursor IDE support hallucinates lockout policy, causes user cancellations
here's an archive of the original reddit post since it seemed to be instantly nuked: https://undelete.pullpush.io/r/cursor/comments/1jyy5am/psa_c...
kebokyo··on WEIRD – a way to be on the web
The fact that they're trying to cop "smallweb" vibes while being incredibly soulless and flat at the same time is making me. so frustrated. This isn't "weird" in the alt sense, this is "weird" like how you would describe JD Vance.

Hillary Clinton is actively diving her head into her elbow-pit, and we cannot stop her. We can only watch in horror as she destroys the fabric of our universe and merges all that was once "cool" and "hip" into the conglomerate apathetic mainstream.

kebokyo··on "Vibe Coding" vs. Reality
Remember that 80% of your time and resources is going to be spent finishing up the last 20% of the project. If the first 80% is borked by LLM code salad, you’re going to need to spend time fixing that code and making it actually work. That might take just as much time, if not more, than only using AI as an assistant (i.e. code completion) instead of the main source of code.
kebokyo··on Block AI Scrapers with Anubis proof-of-work
There is a config file that lets you customize the rules Anubis uses for allowing, challenging, or denying incoming requests. https://anubis.techaro.lol/docs/admin/policies
kebokyo··on Anubis: Proof-of-work proxy to prevent AI crawlers
I’m not sure how you can generate cryptocurrency with just sha256 hashes lol. Plus, there’s already a configuration file that lets you determine what you’re looking out for in terms of scrapers. I need to look at it more myself especially because I plan on using this on my own website soon, but I hope there’s already a good way to whitelist archival sites.
kebokyo··on Tell Mozilla: it's time to ditch Google
Something that this petition does not mention at all are possible alternatives to Google search as the default search engine. If Google isn’t the default, who should be the default?
kebokyo··on App Should Have Been a Website (and Probably Your Game Too)
Obsidian is the only Electron app I don’t despise.

VSCode is close to counting… but it absolutely sucks on RAM usage, so I try to avoid it when I can.

kebokyo··on App Should Have Been a Website (and Probably Your Game Too)
I am so happy that you made this, legit. I’m absolutely going to try it whenever I get a chance.

I’ve wanted to do the same thing you did but with coding notebooks (e. Jupyter) for a while now. It frustrates me to no end that the only native software for notebooks is JetBrains IDEA (and even that’s only an “I think it’s naive” lol). Hopefully I can take what you learned and documented and apply it to my app ^-^

kebokyo··on App Should Have Been a Website (and Probably Your Game Too)
How is Discord not loading fast enough the result of a “third world mindset”? Is this one of those “this software is bad because it was made in China / India / outsourced to one of those countries” arguments (which I don’t even think applies to this topic???)
kebokyo··on Love being interrupted when my monitor asks me to accept user agreements
Do you have anything online documenting how you did this? That’s actually really cool
kebokyo··on MikroPhone: A privacy enhanced, simple and featured RISC-V mobile phone
This looks really cool! I don’t know if this more of a feature phone or a smart phone though. Would like to see pictures of completed builds and what they can do.
kebokyo··on ScanOSS spams OSS projects for using profanity
If one of my GH repos gets one of these issues, I'll wear it like a badge of honor

...tho I also wish I can get a cookie with it too that would be nice

kebokyo··on Ask HN: What are you working on (September 2024)?
I've mostly been focusing on school right now, but my website https://eleboog.com has needed some more content for, uh, months lmao. So I'll probably try to make some new posts for it. Some topic ideas include Geminispace & cool ways people have made web apps with Gemini & related protocols, my tiny prose journal and how it's helped me with my mental health, and (of course) the random features I've added to my site over the past half-year and how I feel about them right now.

I know it ain't as exciting as y'all with your startups and open source softwares but I'm just a shmuck stuck in a CS degree that is guaranteed to leave me flipping burgers for a few years until the industry realizes hiring people is actually a good thing... I'm taking things as I go to build out my portfolio and hopefully work towards making my own open source apps that can hopefully land me a gig or two in the future.
