kerhackernews··on The asteroid currently hitting front end web development
The fear I have is that everything will become the same... boring. AI will suck the soul out of everything it touches.
kerhackernews··on 'People are going to get screwed' Pennsylvania voters unite against data centres
Really the main issue causing the data center backlash is because they aren't building new 100% green energy production capacity with it. When you drop a data center into an area, energy prices will spike. Additionally, without that green energy capacity they will cause much more air pollution.
kerhackernews··on Ross Ulbricht granted a full pardon
He operated a site that allowed you to hire hitmen.
kerhackernews··on Priced out of home ownership
>Ask yourself, do Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the US, Britain, Ireland, etc, all have the same inability to build or is there maybe some other common cause?

They all do though, for various reasons.

kerhackernews··on 3 reasons people are moving from Windows 11 back to Windows 10
It's the last in the sense that it's mostly a rolling release with some major upgrades.
kerhackernews··on 3 reasons people are moving from Windows 11 back to Windows 10
I don't see the point. Windows 11 offers additional features over 10 and it feels very slightly faster.

If I wasn't gaming, I would just use Linux anyway.

kerhackernews··on 00Key a 75% Keyboard
This is why I would not use less than a 75% keyboard. I don't see the point in saving vertical space (unless it's a laptop).
kerhackernews··on 00Key a 75% Keyboard
The smaller keyboards are very popular for gaming because they are more ergonomic and free up more room on the desk.

However, if someone is in the market for a gaming keyboard right now, I would only recommend Wooting as at this point in time there is no HE keyboard with latency has low as Wooting.

kerhackernews··on DNS traffic can leak outside the VPN tunnel on Android
Can't you just use a DNS provider that encrypts the traffic?
kerhackernews··on New findings point to an Earth-like environment on ancient Mars
Couldn't it just be that simple life isn't rare as long as the conditions exist for it to form. It took a very very very long time for even oxygen producing life to form after that.
kerhackernews··on New findings point to an Earth-like environment on ancient Mars
To me, based on how quickly life formed on earth. It's highly likely that simple life once existed within the ancient oceans of Mars. Though, after billions of years there would be no evidence left.
kerhackernews··on AirPods Max
Extremely expensive.
kerhackernews··on France rules Google must pay news firms for content
While this is a complicated situation, it's clear that Google is profiting greatly off of journalistic works while these same organizations are struggling to survive.
kerhackernews··on I graduated into the dot com bust as a programmer and made it – you will too
Things will get better but the complete lack of a social safety net here is completely ridiculous.

The hoarding of capital by the super rich and business elites is disgusting. There are better and more ethical ways to structure out economy.

kerhackernews··on Firefox is back. It's time to give it a try
The only issue I have is that Firefox works poorly with 3D view in Google Maps, which is something I use a lot.
kerhackernews··on Firefox is back. It's time to give it a try
The mobile version has improved by a lot. It used to be slow as shit but now it's comparable to Chrome.
kerhackernews··on [dead]
This! I just wish they used username/passwords instead of phone numbers for conversations.
kerhackernews··on [dead]
I don't know if there is currently any proof that WhatsApp does those things. WhatsApp isn't even popular in China, they all use WeChat
kerhackernews··on Tesla Passes Ford by Market Value
Once self driving cars a the norm you'll see companies like Uber buying fleets of electric cars.
kerhackernews··on Microsoft Pledges to Use ARM Server Chips, Threatening Intel's Dominance
I think the point is that Microsoft can how ship Surface devices with ARM chips that can occasionally run x86 applications when needed. And it also allows Microsoft to ditch Intel if they really wanted to.
kerhackernews··on Saudi Arabia's Oil Wealth Is About to Get a Reality Check
AHAHAHAHA.

They seriously think it'll bring it more than Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Amazon combined?

kerhackernews··on WhatsApp launches Status, an encrypted Snapchat Stories clone
How will they harvest data from encrypted chats?
kerhackernews··on WhatsApp launches Status, an encrypted Snapchat Stories clone
I can see facebook trying to turn it into the west's wechat.
kerhackernews··on WhatsApp launches Status, an encrypted Snapchat Stories clone
So facebook has both Instagram and WhatsApp doing similar things?
kerhackernews··on The Year of Linux on Everything but the Desktop
I think the point is that there would be an idiot-proof distro and a more complicated distro, but both would be able to run the same software.
kerhackernews··on H.R.861 – To Terminate the Environmental Protection Agency
I can't pass because you'd need 60 votes in the senate (which the Republicans don't have).
kerhackernews··on H.R.861 – To Terminate the Environmental Protection Agency
Republicans will never be held accountable by their voters, ever.
kerhackernews··on Top Hat Raises $22M to Go After Pearson, McGraw-Hill
It would be neat if they offered some free textbooks and course materials for certain subjects.
kerhackernews··on Top Hat Raises $22M to Go After Pearson, McGraw-Hill
Well if they can get rid of the $200+ textbooks that you have to buy (and never use) to get web access that would be great. Almost all material in school textbooks can be found online for free, it really makes no sense to require students to spend anything of $20 on coursebooks.
kerhackernews··on Video calls for Signal now in public beta
This is great, might actually use it for calls now.
