khalidkhair··on OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target
I think Steve Jobs' quote sums this up beautifully:

"This is a field where one does not write a Principia which holds up for 200 years. This is not a field where one paints a painting that'll be looked at for centuries, or builds a church that will be admired and looked at in astonishment for centuries.

No, this is a field where one does one's work and in 10 years it's obsolete..."

And it's even harsher for AI where we're witnessing the release of a new model every hour these days

khalidkhair··on Preliminary Report Oct 21st Security Incident
> Why did Railway not notify customers of potentially decrypted keys sooner? ... we wanted to ensure the attacker was ejected from our running infrastructure before telling users to roll their credentials, to prevent the credentials from becoming immediately compromised again.

The way this was handled is messed up to the point it's starting to sound hilarious, they could've easily let people know ASAP that the keys were compromised so they can disable them early and Railway could temporarily block them from updating secrets to keep them secure all around in the meantime

khalidkhair··on Cloudflare is rewriting everything in Rust
Its more like they're *transitioning* to Rust and not rewriting everything in Rust
khalidkhair··on New Walkman $5,899.99
Am I missing something or is this a glorified iPod Touch with media controls as physical buttons?
khalidkhair··on OVH Cloud CLI Tool Hacked by Russian Threat Actors
Yet another supply chain attack unfortunately
khalidkhair··on "We're not going to make rules that say you can't use tools for X"
To be honest, I think banning "AI-pioneered" (i.e. code fully written by AI without a single human thought involved) code is still a valid idea since 99% of the time it's solving a non-existent or very edge case-ish issue by adding extra bloat code to the codebase, but what I'm against is banning experienced engineers with good understanding over code from using AI just like any other tool you have to be more productive
khalidkhair··on Janas: Run LLMs larger than RAM by streaming experts from SSD
Not sure if the measurement method used for this is actually valid or reliable enough, but for reference, Codex 6.1 Sol Standard runs at 19.9 tok/s according to a benchmark I recently saw: https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/s/b4mUszSOv1
khalidkhair··on Show HN: PS2 games statically recompiled to WebAssembly
I wonder how "legal" hosting this would be given that it would require the host to basically distribute the game for free for everyone else
khalidkhair··on Cloudflare acquires Deno
This one might have to be spooned
khalidkhair··on Show HN: AltTab Windows Switcher for Mac
Really cool! As a person who just migrated from Windows to Mac, I always found it annoying that Mac groups up windows on Alt+Tab by app rather than by window on Windows, especially since I usually have multiple VSCode windows open at the same time, I'm always forced to use Mission Control for this. Keep it up!
khalidkhair··on Show HN: Voz Translate – Clone your voice and use it in other languages
Sounds like an epic idea, will try it out soon!
