kichimi··on English: A vs. An
I've spent some time thinking about this before, and it provides a clue about the writers accent. For example:

"An 'H'", and "a 'H'" are both equally valid following this rule (by my interpretation), depending on how you pronounce the letter 'H'.

I agree with you and could say the same thing about 90s/00s TV as he does with YouTube.

To add to this, because I think it is important context for Americans who may not be aware, football is seen very officially by many European nations and national governments as a cultural counterpart to many international treaties within Europe that were born out of the desire to bring our respective cultures closer together after the second world war.

It is so important, that many countries make it illegal to hide international football matches behind paywalls, specifically.

It is so important, that there are articles written about its importance on EU institutes websites. For example, this one reflects on Footballs importance in relation to the First, Second and Cold wars. https://www.iss.europa.eu/publications/alerts/european-footb...

To see Trump so flagrantly manipulate it sends a cultural signal that is hard for those outside of Europe to see, and that by some can be seen as the cultural equivalent of the political threats Trump has made against NATO.

At this point, your average European Trump supporter/right wing populist needs only reminding of Trumps interference to get a complete positional change - that's how bad it is.

kichimi··on But how to get to that European cloud?
This is not true, the problem is greed and imo a lack of ROI.
kichimi··on But how to get to that European cloud?
This is not their last, there is another one with funding thats building off the learned lessons of Gaia-X.

You know this is just making fun of the poor working class? It's offensive.
kichimi··on It is no longer safe to move our governments and societies to US clouds
They can do even better. I don't know how much I can say but there is an EU funded alternative in the works.
kichimi··on Ask HN: Am I the only one here who can't stand HN's AI obsession?
Don't forget another stuck in the past minimal semantic css based web framework that's almost unusable on anything more complex than its own demo. Complaints about react too, because its new (its 13 years old).

I feel like this is a pretty important thing for the technically minded to get their heads around.

Doesn't the fact that you can't imagine a single reason why youd want multiple fonts on a spreadsheet alarm you?

I've heard this a few times, do you have anything that explains this?

kichimi··on CrowdStrike fixes start at "reboot up to 15 times", gets more complex from there
No it really is not. If you have a service contract, you do not touch it.
kichimi··on Ask HN: What is the best code base you ever worked on?
I think skill is also an issue here, in both directions. I have worked with a company that followed the opposite of move fast and it just turned into a 'who is the most correct' and 'what is the most elegant code' competition. We didn't push out a single new feature in the three years i'd worked there at that point. There was so much focus on code that we gave almost no time to business requirements.

The wider implication of this was that the number of tickets we got dropped dramatically, because users knew they'd never be resolved anyway.

Balance is key.

Defacing is your opinion, I think a city without graffiti is a dead city, it's an improvement.
kichimi··on I don't want to spend my one precious life dealing with Google's AI search
Perhaps not a popular opinion - and slightly besides your point, but english that is too formal and too correct can sound unnatural.
kichimi··on Superfile – A fancy, pretty terminal file manager
Sadly by the looks of some of the replies here, never will recover from, since people seem unaware that it never used to do that, and would delightfully size itself to the content. This is the #1 feature that I really loved about Mac OS window management.
kichimi··on Superfile – A fancy, pretty terminal file manager
Mac OS itself confuses things by forcing apps to be full screen, rather than sizing to the content
kichimi··on PeOS – Windows-like OS mockup in web browser
Projects like these will always have a special place in my heart, and I've always wished I could have a use case for professional applications developed inside environments like this, to serve as a bridge between the desktop and web world of user interface design.

kichimi··on Everyone Has JavaScript, Right?
I find this point of view somewhat tiring and kinda showing a certain amount of detatchment from the general population of internet users.

Avoiding JavaScript in all but the most simplest of use cases is going to leave you with a lackluster user experience.
