kinos··on Doctor-prescribed videogame for ADHD
I played a game pretty similar to this when I was a kid. It was a Game and Watch style game with two buttons on a simple LCD screen. I got it for free with a happy meal. Bull.
kinos··on To the brain, reading computer code is not the same as reading language (2020)
Taking notes, taking notes, taking notes. Notepad as an external memory is just an amazing game changer for this. Doesn't even need to be deep, just a running tally of what you're thinking to get it to somewhere that you can reference it instead of running it on a loop in your short term memory. Makes fading in and out of it so much easier. I treat it like a conversation with myself half the time and the other half the time like I'm writing a reference book for someone else. Its worked well for fresh code, code to be, and analyzing existing code made by someone else. Cannot recommend it enough.
kinos··on Ask HN: How to change jobs with almost no interviewing experience?
accept every recruiter that contacts you on LinkedIn the moment you click "available". Don't filter too strongly, just accept everything that won't be a hassle to try the interview at. Then just practice through real interviews.
kinos··on What happens in the brain while daydreaming?
Anecdotal, obviously, but I have 20/10 vision and aphantasia.
kinos··on Hacking ADHD: Strategies for the modern developer
I have trouble trusting this when the first thing I see is AI Art. It makes me think the article might have been generated too.
kinos··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
https://roughdrafts.xyz/home/

Slightly fancier paste bin with markdown support that I want to turn into a group editing service that takes inspiration from pull request style workflows.

kinos··on 1.3B Worldcat scrape and data science mini-competition
they probably have a good interface for personal library tracking
kinos··on Show HN: Wasp – DSL/framework for building full-stack web apps – now in beta
The only thing preventing me from jumping right onto this is the fact it doesn't seem to be an oauth2 provider, and it doesn't seem to have the verify/reset/etc jobs necessary for username & password.

Verify/reset/etc is always what pushes me away from doing multi-user webapps. Its a headache every time due to needing to think about e-mail, and I'd love an all-in-one oauth2 provider with signup and etc thats super lightweight and just does everything through an API.

kinos··on Ask HN: Anyone have a realization to stop working so much at job?
Buddy this is the most corporate bootlicking statement I've seen in a while. I think I see what I hope you're going for and would love to hear that this advice is oriented towards achieving your own goals and not the goals of someone you don't fundamentally agree with.
kinos··on Electric vehicles are way more energy-efficient than internal combustion
Haha, yeah. I guess things like Cargo bikes don't exist. Nor does just bringing your stuff onto the train and putting it into it's cargo holds. Or bringing your cargo bike onto the train.

Yup, private carriages are the only option for your occasional weekly or monthly tasks.

I guess its also just outright impossible to just allow for mixed zoning that'd allow for daily grocery shopping as well.

kinos··on Everyone should be ‘quiet quitting’
Buddy you had every ability to half ass that on-call and no one would have faulted you for it and it would have resulted in the corporation realizing they needed to harden that duty better.
kinos··on Why aren't smart people happier?
Maybe stop having transactional friendships?
kinos··on Not My Job
Delegate the prioritization by using a template similar to this one.

> "Hey, I noticed [this thing that I think might be a problem]. Would you like me to [do a specific action that would probably fix it] or move onto something else?"

kinos··on The death of 'mandatory fun' in the office
Thats horrifying. I think I'd genuinely just start eating the construction paper out of protest.
kinos··on Ask HN: What should I use instead of Heroku?
Get a generic server and toss dokku on it.
kinos··on Police shut ‘Club Penguin Rewritten’, 3 arrested for copyright infringement
What do you acquire by having this opinion?
kinos··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
I use a laptop cause I can't sit right for a desktop. I'm currently resting my laptop on my leg. I have my other leg tucked under that leg. The back of my chair is being used as an arm rest.
kinos··on Ask HN: Should I/We start a 4-day work week advocacy org?
Companies don't reward morality, they're trained to extract as much value out of a resource as possible - it is the duty of a worker to establish limits and enforce them at every opportunity. "Doing only what needs to be done" is a perfectly normal limit.
kinos··on ‘I felt powerless – so I started filming’: CyclingMikey vs. dangerous drivers
If the Netherlands are anything to go off of, thats just due to lack of infrastructure that trains people and helps prevent mixed traffic and conflicts caused by mixed traffic.
kinos··on Ask HN: How's the Miami Scene?
Ahahahahaha oh man. Oof. Oh. Jeeze.

I was born in Davie, somewhere outside Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Everything in Florida is a scam that does not discriminate. A scam on the users. A grift on the employees. A land inflated by speculation. You won't get paid enough to live there and everything will price you out of paying for it anyway.

kinos··on Homelessness rises faster where rent exceeds a third of income (2018)
How does personal fiscal responsibility effect the global housing economy and availability of a highly limited good?
kinos··on John Madden has died

kinos··on Show HN: Minimalist offline journal app with a chat interface
Any chance you have plans on making this usable by groups instead of individuals? I've been looking to find, adapt, or make something like this for collaborative fiction.
kinos··on Movie dialogue has gotten more difficult to understand
Why is it on the viewer instead of on the producer to learn color theory? You can perfectly imply darkness with shades of blue and purple and get a far stronger ranger than shades of black can provide.
kinos··on Ask HN: What is your current side-project?
I've been cleaning my house, and binging old anime like dragon ball and sailor moon. Aside from that, dabbling in tabletop game design. Usually card focused role-playing.
kinos··on Unsolved mysteries of the Warhammer 40k universe with loremaster Dan Abnett
It used to be tongue in cheek, but then we got to see Poe's Law prove itself in real time. Every time I join a 40k community, 80% will be communists making fun of nazis. The other 20% will be mask-off nazis. Game Workshop's focus on trying to be marketable instead of comedy doesn't help this at all, as they start choosing sides to turn into the good guys for traditional storytelling and marketing purposes.
kinos··on Evolution of Random Number Generators
for JS you can probably just do `[...Array(n).keys()].sort(()=>Math.random() - 0.5)` ?
kinos··on Goodbye MongoDB, Hello PostgreSQL (2015)
Why did you use a database instead of just creating a global map and running in memory? Sharding?
kinos··on Sick Days Don't Look So Good Now That You Can Work from Home
Hey, take care of yourself. Stop giving into this macho-ism that only benefits a corporation. Value yourself more than profit. Anxiety and mental diseases are still diseases. They're worthy of sick time. Physically being unable to work and Mentally being unable to work are both being unable to work and they both damage you when ignored.
kinos··on Tell HN: I used to be homeless and want to work as a software developer
