knughit··on Wealth doesn't trickle down – it just floods offshore, research reveals (2012)
The greatest crime a capitalist can imagine is an employee getting paid the amount they are promised, in excess of that they deserve. The greatest virtue a capitalist can imagine is an employer making profits in excess of their contribution.

Is it ironic? Europe's great modern wealth is socialist capitalism.

The original canonical work on capitalism, Adam Smith's "On the Wealth of Nations" lays this out clearly.

Well, it came from being the children of people who provided a good or service, and likely in large part due to illegal unfair competitive advantage.

Dividends, yet. But not all stock growth is due to realized profit. Look at AMZN for example.

Inflation punishes people who assets. Poor people only suffer when their nominal wages don't grow to match inflation -- but that's exactly the same as their employers lowering wages in an inflation-free environment. Inflation is only superficially related to the problem of real wage reductions.

There is no need to insert arbitrary ageism. It just makes you look immature, whatever your age.

Arabs use "Sharia" like Americans use "Liberty". They just use the word because it sounds respectable, but they make it mean whatever suits their power.

knughit··on Kim Philby, Lecturing in East Berlin, Bragged of How Easy It Was to Fool MI6
He wasn't communist, and that nonsense worldview is why they missed the problem. He was an opportunist, like many people in all governments. He sold info to russians while others just sold contracts to friends or embezzled directly. It's not us vs a foreign them, there are selfish and power-hungry monsters throughout all sides.

Finance theory disagrees with you.

A dividend lets the investors choose if they want to buy more shares (from the same sellers who would sell in a buyback) or mix their current shares with the cash.

knughit··on Will minimum wage hikes lead to a huge boost in automation? Only if we're lucky
Unbalanced comparisons.

Basic income frees people to do private work. Government projects, to be comparable, would have to pay people for their work, as you know, and also add a premium to cover the time spent.

Basic income and government spending on projects are separate ideas that are only related because they compete for budget.

knughit··on Unintuitive Things I’ve Learned about Management
An important part of a manager's job is helping keep self-centered self-unaware primadonnas contributing productivity to the team, despite their short-sighted immature attitude. It's rather like parenting in that respect.

Interesting, because Japanese is stereotyped as a very rule-following culture. But maybe that applies to social rules, not legal rules.

"Tiger Mom" had a Chinese flair, but an extreme work ethic is seen in many subcultures of cultures. In USA it is called the Protestant Work Ethic
knughit··on Renting a Friend in Tokyo
Are Korean and Chinese not like factories? I always thought they were more so than American, to the point of famously turning out people who have a bizarre ability to imitate knowledge but not have it (much like Chinese factories can fill dollar stores and Walmart with stuff that has an amazing superficial resemblance to functionng functioning products)

Why can't lower class women marry lower class men? Half of Japnaese are women, right?

I mean, it sucks, but it should suck in a gender balanced way.

knughit··on Renting a Friend in Tokyo
Right. In GAAP, the technical term for the difference between a business's total assets (minus liabilities) and it's valuation price is "goodwill".
