kouh··on [dead]
This is from 2021
kouh··on I made a MMO pixel art game (metaverse?)
Yes, definitely inspired by Habbo too. Client is pure vanilla JS, I've built the game engine from scratch. Multiplayer is socket-based.
kouh··on I made a MMO pixel art game (metaverse?)
thanks! Coke Studios was an inspiration. Arrow keys to move, and space to interact with objects
kouh··on Show HN: Vim Tutorial as RPG
Good to know, thanks. I'm not the author, just stumbled upon it today.
kouh··on Perl is still relevant
imho, the language didn't age as well as other popular multi-paradigm predecessors. I never got my head around their OO implementation, or handling of arguments.
kouh··on The opt-out illusion: how we have acquiesced to losing our privacy

Mobile users can use firefox extensions
kouh··on Sundar will be the CEO of both Google and Alphabet
A similar question was at the center of Atlas Shrugged
kouh··on New Life Found That Lives Off Electricity (2016)
Any followup research? how does the redox tower of these microbes work?
kouh··on Pierre Lamond On Cerebas' New Deep Learning Chip
Note: Eclipse Ventures, of which Pierre is a team member, is an investor in Cerebras Systems [0]

kouh··on Salvator Mundi and the unreality of the art market
If you take the diamond market as a valid analogy, you would be right.
kouh··on New Proof Settles How to Approximate Numbers Like Pi
Are there any theorems from polynomial approximation of functions that can be applied to fraction approximation of irrational numbers?
kouh··on People Simply Empty Out (1986)
If you want to delve into his work, please note that his editor John Martin/Black Sparrow heavily defaced most of his original work with mediocre edits that bordered vandalism [0]. The manuscripts is where the better stuff is.

kouh··on Math Basics for Computer Science and Machine Learning [pdf]
Chapter 1 can't be more basic, a great summary of what will remain intuitively after reading the whole opus
kouh··on The Mathematics of Text Structure
Is there further recent research following this direction?
kouh··on MathFiction: Alex Recommends
Excellent list, I would merge with https://justinmeiners.github.io/foundations-of-math-reading/
kouh··on Toxorhynchites – Mosquito Eater
There were a few webs in the corners, but she didn't view it as a sign of dirty old carelessness like I was taught to through cartoons as a kid
kouh··on Toxorhynchites – Mosquito Eater
She knew the type of spiders they were, but I was only assured after I wasn't bitten for a few days
kouh··on Toxorhynchites – Mosquito Eater
Spiders are also useful. My exgf lived in a farm and had dozens of harmless spiders in the ceiling of her bedroom that ate all mosquitoes. It nuanced my view on spiders.
kouh··on Mind-Bending “Quantum Darwinism” Theory Passes Experimental Tests
Article dereferenced, with more details on the experiments: https://www.quantamagazine.org/quantum-darwinism-an-idea-to-...
kouh··on Can Life Exist in 2 and 1 Dimensions?
The fundamental premise of the title seems misleading to me. Life existence doesn't depend on dimensions, it's perception that does. As the author later says, the paper is predicated upon an anthropic consideration of reality: if it can't be observed or compatible with the human mental model, then it doesn't exist. Has that been proven to be the case?
kouh··on Intelligent Machinery (1948) [pdf]
A definite classic. What's unique about human intelligence? There doesn't seem to be anything in our carbon based systems that can't be theoretically replicated on silicon. Turing may not have been religious, but the amazement I think he felt about human intelligence was close to religious awe.
kouh··on Apollo 11 in Real Time
Who have you spoken to at SI? Don't let a pen pusher convince you that his view represents the organization
kouh··on I Grew Up Gifted, but My Life Didn’t Turn Out the Way I Expected
Are you sure? Doesn't work have value under any scenario, if only a residual educational value: a lesson for you and/or others? That would reduce "hard" and/or "smart" to multipliers of that value.
kouh··on Healthy fat hidden in dirt may fend off anxiety disorders
This could explain why some people pick and eat nasal mucus (a dirt colloid) when anxious
kouh··on What's the difference between 0/0 and 1/0?
There is something inextricably human about this sort of anecdote though, like modern reenactments of the drowning of Hippasus by the Pythagoreans after bringing up irrational numbers.
kouh··on The shittiest project I ever worked on (2013)
Reminds me of Microsoft. They only had two engineers working on MS-DOS 1.0, their most important and profitable product at the time. Despite recurrent industry criticism of the product and the launch of competing DR DOS (faster, better and 33% the price), it took Gates two years to react, with commercial tactics first (and eventually overdue product changes later)...

kouh··on Sandberg: FB Shouldn't be Broken Up, or else Chinese Companies will Dominate
That's exactly the crucial question I don't see being asked anywhere. It's answer has huge implications, it's non answer leads to a schizophrenic nation.
kouh··on Sandberg: FB Shouldn't be Broken Up, or else Chinese Companies will Dominate
I think the "to compete with China" legal/moral waiver is an interesting recurring argument across industries and government
kouh··on Underground network of microbes that connects trees mapped for first time
No microbe map in the paper unfortunately, just global maps of where the samples were taken. Like many papers these days: wonderful titles, disappointing abstracts and empty conclusions.
