ks2048··on Meta censored the No Kings Instagram account during a nationwide campaign
“Move fast and break democracy”
ks2048··on Early progress on accelerating drug development with Claude
I don't think the cost of health care is primarily a technical problem, but a political one.
ks2048··on The Exponential Time Hypothesis Is False [pdf]
> Absolutely ridiculous they have all this compute and creative resources and cant make something more intuitive to help people understand it more natively

OpenAI has that too - open their website and ask.

ks2048··on Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
> The rest of the right wing just doesn't want government slush fund handouts to vaporware companies

Maybe the voters don't, but the businessmen and politicians definitely do, maybe more so than democrats. Just in different sectors (military).

ks2048··on Mark Zuckerberg Pushed Meta to Shield Him from California's Proposed Wealth Tax
> The point of the law was to generate money for the state to fund the same mistakes France and GB are currently reeling from.

Which mistakes of France and GB are you referring to? The money (90%) will go to health care spending. So, yes - vastly overpriced crap - France spends half for universal care with better outcomes.

ks2048··on Mark Zuckerberg Pushed Meta to Shield Him from California's Proposed Wealth Tax
"I would have worked hard and started a great company, but since I could only ever reach $900M in wealth, I decided to be a bum instead". Sure.
ks2048··on Mark Zuckerberg Pushed Meta to Shield Him from California's Proposed Wealth Tax
Check out the work of Gabriel Zucman. Many interviews online. Makes a good case for wealth taxes.
ks2048··on Evolving Threat: http2shell is an RCE in Node, Python, and more
Can someone point the heart of this fix? I see a bunch of change of naming of constants, etc
ks2048··on Evolving Threat: http2shell is an RCE in Node, Python, and more
Vulnerability Zzyzx in a week
ks2048··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
Yes, why don't they just say it instead of posting videos. Opening a sinister PDF in iOS can give them access to what exactly? anything/everything? What iOS versions or devices, etc?
ks2048··on No Need for Retirement When Utopia Is Around the Corner
There are real quotes from notable people.

The article pointed to a quote from Palantir CTO.

There is also a quote from Avi Schiffmann - founder of AI wearable friend. "By the time you do get lung cancer, our AI robots are supposed to have cured that," Schiffmann says.

Both quotes may have been said in the sense of them not supporting this idea, but acknowledging an attitude of some of not worrying about long-term planning.

ks2048··on No Need for Retirement When Utopia Is Around the Corner
The original quote was from Shyam Sankar, CTO of Palantir, not Karp.
ks2048··on No Need for Retirement When Utopia Is Around the Corner
This comment is more evidence to the whole point of the article.
ks2048··on Gradium open-sourced its on-device TTS
So many TTS releases - it's hard to know what is something new and worth looking into vs small tweaks on something existing.
ks2048··on Butlerian Jihad
In the book - is it men vs machines? Because it’s pretty clear in our world it will be men+machines vs men(probably also + some machines)
ks2048··on 90% of US working hours are spent on tasks not covered well by AI benchmarks
Is there a benchmark for ass-kissing or back-slapping?
ks2048··on Stolen Renoir paintings found hidden, and damaged, behind cinder block wall
Random fact: one of the socialist leaders of the Paris Commune saved Renoir's life.

ks2048··on Hello Toronto – Waymo Is En Route
But, Waymo removed the driver and it's not cheaper than Uber, correct?
ks2048··on Apple ML Research: Muse Spark Open with MLX on Mac Studio
So, Meta will spend millions/billions on building open-weight models and then people will send Apple $20,000 to run them. Seems like a good deal for Apple.
ks2048··on Neural networks are clean
It starts with "The Short Version", but even that looks like several pages of text. In the olden days, there was something called an "Abstract" that worked pretty well - the author could summarize their own work to say what the paper was about.
ks2048··on Neural networks are clean
To cut through some of all this text - here's a link he calls "the first non-trivial neural network I feel I mostly understand:

ks2048··on Simons Foundation launches $15M effort to help mathematicians navigate AI era

ks2048··on Why do LLM pelicans look like this?
Interesting thing I notice: in 10/13 of the examples, there are 3 small horizontal lines behind the bike meant to convey motion.

These look surprisingly similar and not necessarily something that directly follows from the prompt.

ks2048··on Show HN: I built a tool to track what AI leaders say and how their views change
That makes sense. Probably bad AI summaries. I copied that quote from Wang's page. Looking now at the podcast page [1]:

What are people actually doing with Muse?

Zuckerberg's Muse sources obscure teas weekly from farms in Taiwan and Japan. Wang's favorite use is MMA coaching: cameras in his gym let Muse watch his sparring"

[1] https://blumify.io/t/youtube/XfdIhd1g6EI/muse-wonder-zuckerb...

ks2048··on Show HN: I built a tool to track what AI leaders say and how their views change
Alexandr Wang "says his favorite Muse use case is having it coach him in MMA by watching gym cameras and giving feedback between rounds"

Okay, you've convinced me I don't want to track what these guys are saying.

On a serious note, it looks good. Although to really track what they say, you'd probably want text too, e.g tweets and blog posts.

ks2048··on OpenAI engineer arrested in bugging of executive conference room
Always fun to checkout the social media of the accused,

https://x.com/alfozan

Not too much there. A link to Tim Urban's "Your Life in Weeks" infographic. Life is short, dream big.

ks2048··on OpenAI engineer arrested in bugging of executive conference room
> The man arrested for planting a secret recording device at OpenAI's headquarters is a Venture Partner of a VC firm alongside the son of a senior Saudi intelligence official:

ks2048··on OpenAI engineer arrested in bugging of executive conference room
I wouldn't call it a "roll". There's an image in the sfstandard.com article. It is odd. Looks more suspicious than without it.
ks2048··on The gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening
I think it's hard to quantify "highest standard of living", but for the attempts at it (e.g. HDI, etc), the US is not number one.
ks2048··on Terence Tao: Math 2.0 [pdf]
When thinking about math, Tao is in another world unfamiliar to us. But, he grew up in our world and is a professor in our world and if you listen to him, seems like a pretty normal guy. I think he just made a bad analogy here.
