kthxb··on Rust reflection and a multi-array list
Some examples of how the implementation uses the new reflection features would have been nice. I know, I could read the code... But then why make a blog post
kthxb··on Architecting large software projects [video]
I feel like a lot of his takes -- like c89 being the best -- may be true in the context of the kind of complex desktop applications he seems to develop, but not universally applicable.

Still, he gives a lot of good advice and fundamental engineering rules.

kthxb··on Is it time for digital nomads to leave Lisbon?
I'm missing the city's locals and politicians opinions on this matter here. Do they profit from the expats?
kthxb··on I've been using Claude Code for a couple of days
As a junior, this scares me. I don't think I'll be out of a job soon, but certainly the job market will change drastically and the times where SWEs are paid like doctors and lawyers will end?
kthxb··on Tinygrad 0.9.0
Seems the code sample contradicts your first statement
kthxb··on Show HN: Multi-monitor KVM using just a USB switch
I found even these simple USB Switchers to be quite expensive, and sometimes they require drivers that don't work on Linux. I quickly sketched a simple circuit board with USB hubs and a switch and ordered them assembled (!) from one of those DIY-fabs (JLCPCB or PCBWay). They cost 25€ for 5 pcs, each with one 2-to-1 switch. I don't have any experience in circuit design and didn't have to solder anything, and they work perfectly.

These would go pretty well with this software, maybe I'll give it a try.

kthxb··on Rook to XSS: How I hacked chess.com with a rookie exploit
UX is probably a matter of habit, I for one find the chesscom UI unintuitive and I can never find what I'm looking for, but Lichess certainly also has its problems.

The free and (to me) intuitive analysis tools on Lichess are the killer feature for me.

kthxb··on Jack Dorsey Texts Elon Musk (March 2022)
How does Elon trying to buy Twitter fit into this? Completely reworking Twitter with these ideas seems to be harder than just creating a new thing, so I doubt that was the goal?
kthxb··on Game Emulation via Neural Network
The demo feels like a dream. You try to move towards things, but they transform and you can not reach them. You can also not go back, the place you came from totally changed. Suddenly, you're somewhere else completely.

Awesome idea and solid article!

kthxb··on Tom Davies has become a beloved icon of GeoGuessr
His "straight line missions" on YouTube are really entertaining. The concept (crossing some piece of land in a completely straight line) is simple, but leads to quite some interesting challenges in practice. His brillant story-telling makes the videos very compelling.
kthxb··on Show HN: Recut automatically removes silence from videos – built with Tauri
Can anyone here (maybe the author) say how fast this is? How long does it need for one video? Is it interactive even?
kthxb··on Mixbox: Practical pigment mixing for digital painting
I wanted to check the code on my phone, but the .cpp file is 10MB according to GitHub?
kthxb··on BibTeX Tidy
Is there some linter like this vor LaTeX, too?
kthxb··on How to Survive the End of the Universe (2014)
Wikipedia's "Timeline of the far Future" [0] gives a 95% chance for hunans to be extinct in 10k years.

kthxb··on How to Study Effectively
This is not what the author means by "Space out your study sessions".

Also, SRS is no panacea, e.g. you can use it to learn a mathematical formula, but not to learn how to apply it. For this, you need actual practice.

kthxb··on Finding the Bottom Turtle
Well, you do bootstrap your sourdough bread when using sourdough starter from previous batches...
kthxb··on How Netflix uses eBPF flow logs at scale for network insight
Of course Brendan Gregg, the god of eBPF, tracing and all things profiling has his finger in the pie
kthxb··on Cicero used humor to charm audiences–and humiliate opponents
I recommend Robert Harris' Cicero novels. They are not historical, but very entertaining.
kthxb··on We live in an age of distractions, dealing with constant mental stimulus
This reads a lot like the author just read Newport's "Deep Work". I highly recommend it if you liked this article.
kthxb··on Rust Cookbook
of all the complaints to have...
kthxb··on A Flash Player emulator written in Rust
Awesome page, and it even works flawless on mobile.
kthxb··on Hobbyists beat professional designers in creating novel board games
does creative imply good, though? that's the real question
kthxb··on Wasmer 1.0
WebAssembly's MVP release was primarily targeted at the ... web. It is production ready in all (vital) aspects concerning execution in a browser.
kthxb··on A computer science study plan to become a software engineer
Maybe it is true that you got in a line of work where you rarely need those things; And you certainly got more experience than me. But I, for one, use and profit from the way of thinking I was taught in University very regularly.
kthxb··on Mitmproxy 5.3
used this before for web crawling, very useful tool!
kthxb··on Is Rust web yet?
It's purpose is not to replace JS, but to extend it. For example for the performamce critical parts of applications. It is already used in big JS libraries (such as Hyphenopoly, Google's Draco or Long.js) and in lots of custom applications like the Twitch.tv media player and many 3D visualizations.
kthxb··on Cat Gap
maybe I don't get your point (in which case, ignore me), but couldn't you just count the number of deaths by each predator? i.e. count the number of human skeletons with cat teeth stuck in their bones?
kthxb··on Flatpak: A security nightmare – two years later
compiling from source, i guess
