kurren··on Farewell to Antonino Zichichi, pioneer of particle physics
Antonino Zichichi, one of the leading Italian figures in high-energy physics, passed away today, Monday 9 February, at the age of 96.

Many major projects in international physics are linked to his name: the LEP at CERN projects, the HERA project at DESY, and the INFN National Gran Sasso Laboratory.

kurren··on Block AI bots crawlers on Nginx
Updated, thanks again.
kurren··on Block AI bots crawlers on Nginx
1.23.1
kurren··on Block AI bots crawlers on Nginx
My bad, yes I didn't declare it:

listen[::]443 ssl http2;

thank you.

kurren··on Block AI bots crawlers on Nginx
Using Chrome on a mac, access logs say http 1.1 is accessing the domain. Nothing in front of Ngnix, but I'm wondering if I have the http 2 module on Nginx...
kurren··on Block AI bots crawlers on Nginx
mmm, blocking everything not http/2.0 is also blocking legit browser, while blocking http/1.0 does not block bots (at least not ChatGPT); blocking non-browsers with $http_sec_fetch_mode works as expected.
kurren··on Block AI bots crawlers on Nginx
Thanks. I'll give it a try with the != HTTP/2.0 method.
kurren··on Block AI bots crawlers on Nginx
I've been tinkering with a combined solution to block AI bots from crawling my website, it's a robots.txt file (I know, they don't care about it) and a Nginx directive (it works for Ngnix web servers, not if you are on Apache).
kurren··on Instinctive Sleeping and Resting Postures (2000)
These and other anthropological elements are very well described by Esther Gokhale as the basis of her method (which has been a life changer, at least for me).

You can find more on her website or book "8 Steps to a pan-free back".

I guess the good stuff is private and not on Showcase - quite poor quality here.

kurren··on Detained and interrogated for 10 hours in North Korea
Sounds like the US for the wrong nationality/demographic, to me...
kurren··on Scandinavian Education System Better Than US?
It's not just Finland.

It's pretty much all Europe, where any decent high school student can easily outscore any undergraduate US student on pretty much any subjects (knowledge of anything not-US or not pop culture-related showing possibly the most embarrassing difference between them).

And indeed they directly built or indirectly facilitated much (most?) of the innovative products in the fields you are mentioning. It's just that they work/teach/live in the US because of a more favourable entrepreneurial framework, easier access to capital, less red tape, higher pay at top universities.

kurren··on Bibliotheca – the bible designed to read like a novel
It is a novel.
kurren··on [dead]
With "criticizing a nation", you probably mean criticizing a nation illegally occupying another Nation's territory, repeatedly breaking international human rights conventions, and indiscriminately killing civilians (with a particularly predilection for children).

I'm part of a large, and growing, international community not supporting anything Israel.

kurren··on Sherlock lives in public domain, US court rules
of course. let's apply the same 'logic' with mickey f*ng mouse, now. please.
kurren··on Ask HN: What data science blogs do you follow?
My daily fix:

Run by biostatisticians Jeff Leek, Roger Peng, and Rafa Irizarry, Simply Statistics (http://simplystatistics.org/) it's more than stats - and it's a must read.

R-bloggers (http://www.r-bloggers.com/) is the hub for everything R.

kurren··on Jeff Bezos evacuated off Galapagos Islands for kidney stones
I wonder, how much would have been charged for the chopper emergency service an alien on US soil?

Hopefully mr. Bezos donated some of his wealth to the preservation of the Galapagos natural sanctuary.

kurren··on Sherlock Holmes Is in the Public Domain, American Judge Rules
It's really interesting how US justice is always so keen to rule for public domain for non US ip while being so defensive for US ip products (eg. Disney) - I guess it's one more face of American exceptionalism.

We love you so much guys.
