kykat··on Your Phone Is About to Stop Being Yours: 70 Days Until Lockdown
I said for my family. I will likely still be buying android for myself, probably the grapheneos one if it comes out.

But for most people, the existing flow to allow external sources is already too much. For other people to install my APKs, while possible, is a slow and painful procese. Add waiting 24 hours? As good as blocked.

kykat··on Your Phone Is About to Stop Being Yours: 70 Days Until Lockdown
Exactly, because now they are identical. And their phones are generally better, the prices now are also comparable or even cheaper.
kykat··on Your Phone Is About to Stop Being Yours: 70 Days Until Lockdown
And this is why I've been recommending iPhones to my family when I always recommended Android
kykat··on Show HN: How random are you?
Does someone know whether people saw the "predictions" in the actual test? Because saying random numbers blindly is not what I was doing. After my next number was predicted correctly, I changed my "strategy" to increase randomness (be less predictable).

So I don't know if this result is comparable to the one from the study.

My results were:

The house called 10 of your 87 scored numbers: 11%.

Blind guessing would average about 9.7 of them (11%).

Only 5 of the 206 people in a psychology study were more random than you. The house found you extremely hard to read.

kykat··on Cursor is now a part of SpaceX
I swear I actually laughed out loud with this, is this a joke?
kykat··on Germany Records Historic 12B KWh Solar Feed-In in July 2026
It's truly unbelievable hot right now, this "good news" of solar production is pretty sad actually
kykat··on Stop saying that AI is just a tool and it only matters how it is used
Even if you never watched TV your whole life, you still can't escape the consequences of other people watching TV.

That's the thing to keep in mind, it's not something an individual can "fix".

That's why policies and laws are so important.

kykat··on Stop saying that AI is just a tool and it only matters how it is used
I've read "amusing ourselves to death" and there the author also criticises the idea that new technologies are "just tools".

The invention of the telegraph changed how information is traded and the contents of newspapers, the invention of the TV changed politics, and so on.

The medium shapes the message and induces behaviours from us. We never thought about wanting to promt chatgpt, or watch people doing sports on a screen. But the possibility of doing these things makes us change.

LLMs obviously have and will continue shaping the world, and I am also afraid that it will create a worse future than the one that we had until now.

I think deployment should slow down and research should be financed and diversified.

kykat··on America Is Headed Toward the Infinite Workweek
Fresh people meaning burned out from the previous job?
kykat··on SpaceX Is Buying Cursor
You can only say that because you know nothing about the Chinese ones
kykat··on Cloudflare Turnstile requiring fingerprintable WebGL
And my og comment getting downvoted on this very intellectual forum that definitely isn't an echo chamber
kykat··on Cloudflare Turnstile requiring fingerprintable WebGL
What? Big tech company is evil? No way! I thought cloudflare were good guys...
kykat··on Court to DOGE: Asking ChatGPT 'Is This DEI?' Is Not Proper Legal Process
I've always been confident in the ability of the US institutions to correct the mistakes being made, great to see an end to this ridiculous DOGE situation.
kykat··on A web page that shows you everything the browser told it without asking
Visiting without JS: "With JavaScript off, the page cannot tell you what your browser disclosed. The data is still there. The disclosure still happened. Only the telling of it stops."

I find this hyper dramatic LLM language extremely off putting, but appreciate the signal that allows me to completely disregard it.

kykat··on Show HN: Triggering anti-cheats with just a browser tab title
This has amazing trolling potential
kykat··on If you stop hiring juniors, your senior engineers own you
It's all just a sado maso power game.
kykat··on If you stop hiring juniors, your senior engineers own you
I say that we should fully support all AI initiatives and stop giving advice. Tell them AI will make them rich and that they won't have to care about anybody, and just wait to see what happens.
kykat··on Be sinceerly human – AI to undo your AI writing
Made by grifters, for grifters
kykat··on Audio transcription is worse in 2026 than it was in 2016
I haven't used transcription, but in a similar way, I think DeepL translation got worse. Now it always makes the translation more formal, "professional", and gives everything the "LLM voice".
kykat··on Mythos is shaping up to be a nothingburger
That was a really weird sentence that makes no sense, since when is an on demand "elite researcher" nothing? While the article appears to dismiss this model, it ends up giving it a very high praise.
kykat··on Scoring Show HN submissions for AI design patterns
I've been using colored borders as design for ages... Hate seeing it becoming an "AI tell" :(
kykat··on Study found that young adults have grown less hopeful and more angry about AI
Because of laziness
kykat··on Working with agents doesn't feel like flow
Haven't read the page, but working with agents is like playing a visual novel game, but with random delays and slowdowns added. You just, wait, consume and do a choice. It's a passive activity. It also has gambling elements, because what happens next is random, and nobody really knows what the result will be, this often makes people spend way more time then planned/expected with agents when things don't work immediately magically.
kykat··on Am I German or Autistic?
According to the test, I'm completely normal, are you perhaps the autistic one? Or is the test bullshit?
kykat··on Am I German or Autistic?
It's obvious Claude slop, a stupid meme for people who want to think they are special
kykat··on Am I German or Autistic?
AI slop, absolutely meaningless, don't take it seriously.

Btw I tested neither, 30% each; "the controll group". So I am formally authorized to criticise the page as a perfectly normal person.

kykat··on Some iPhone Apps Receive Mysterious Update 'From Apple'
All linux distros build VLC from source
kykat··on Number in man page titles e.g. sleep(3)
I looked up what the numbers mean a couple of times, but always forget it immediately
kykat··on The Claude Code Leak
Saying that code quality doesn't matter is simply false, if people enjoyed Claude code so much, anthropic wouldn't have to block direct API access to users.

Their "product market fit" is the LLM model itself, not the harness. The harness is completely replaceable in my opinion, it's just that Claude is the cheapest way to access the models.

kykat··on Exceptional fake SSD clone of Samsung 990 Pro is almost impossible to spot
And don't manufactures release different versions under the same brand name? How big can the difference be between authentic drives?
