l1am0··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2026)
Proxima Fusion | Senior Software Engineer (Dev Platform) | Munich, Germany | ONSITE | Full-time

We're building the world's first commercial stellarator fusion power plant. First spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, based on Wendelstein 7-X (the largest stellarator ever built), €650M+ raised, teams in Munich, Zurich and Oxford.

Finding a good stellarator design means searching an enormous high-dimensional space, and every candidate design needs heavy plasma physics simulation. That's the compute problem this role owns: cloud + HPC clusters, K8s, Ray, Dask, and the platform work around it (CI/CD, IaC, observability).

You'd sit directly next to the physicists and AI researchers burning through that compute, so you see exactly what your infrastructure unlocks. Python and Linux.

If you've wanted to point your platform engineering skills at something that actually matters, clean, abundant energy, this is about as direct a shot as it gets, and it's happening in Europe.

Interview process: recruiter call, meet the team lead, technical panel, meet the CEO.

What is the data source feeding into this one? Just claude randomly scraping the internet?

l1am0··on Backups Aren't Simple
Huge fan of borg + vorta for backups and time Maschine like „Jump back in time“. Wrote about it years ago: https://simon-frey.com/blog/borgvorta-is-finally-a-usable-ba...
l1am0··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (August 2026)
One is with the team lead, the other with different team members.

We have one in Munich as well. Quite nice walk along the river

l1am0··on Creating a Color Palette from an Image

l1am0··on Ask HN: Why are people leaving GitHub now?
Ah I see. Yeah did not experience issues here in the EU.
l1am0··on [dead]
Let's see if it also survives HN hug-of-death :D
l1am0··on Palette: Generate on‑brand marketing visuals from a website URL
Would be great if it can be tried out without signup. Just put a watermark over it or so, but having full blown signup on first try is kinda a downer.

l1am0··on Show HN: I taught GPT-OSS-120B to see using Google Lens and OpenCV
I don't get this. Isn't this the same as saying "I taught my 5 year old to calculate integrals, by typing them into Wolfram Alpha"...so the actual relevant cognitive task (integrals in my example, "seeing" in yours) is outsources to an external API.

Why do I need gpt-oss-120B at all in this scenario? Couldn't I just directly call e.g. gemini-3-pro api from the python script?

I saw this somewhen here on hackernews, but adapted it, so that it is an actually image, so the image/meme can be downloaded and hotlinked to.

l1am0··on Making Tool Calling 75% More Efficient via Code
This is basically what you learn in the huggingface smolagents course (months ago)...

They call it CodeAct

l1am0··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
Build a little screen recording tool which apart from combined stream, also gives you the full resolution input streams (camera/screen recording)

https://simon-frey.com/clips

Works only on chromium based browser as it directly writes into files on disk to not loose data. Sry

l1am0··on I tried every todo app and ended up with a .txt file
Shoutout to checkvist.com use them for years. Exactly enough bells and whistles.

It fits my brain of an endless deep list.

Have no affiliate with them apart from paying them each and every year.

l1am0··on Show HN: Offline JavaScript PubSub between browser tabs
"easiest/low tech" would be some sort of unix file-locking and inode. Only works if you are on the same host machine though...AAAND sounds like it would be quite hacky.
l1am0··on Show HN: Offline JavaScript PubSub between browser tabs
Which is a good thing :) I am all in for asking questions. If someone can't answer them, it usually means they have not thought about it and are either ignorant or will learn something themselves :D

(like me for your question, as I never tried TabSub with internet disconnected. Was delighted to see it works nevertheless)

l1am0··on Show HN: Offline JavaScript PubSub between browser tabs
Will check this tomorrow. If you come to it in the meantime, feel free to open a PR :) Thx
l1am0··on Show HN: Offline JavaScript PubSub between browser tabs
Works for offline apps as well :) (you would need to download the tabsub JS ofc and not use it from my server)
l1am0··on Show HN: Offline JavaScript PubSub between browser tabs
It means, that you don't need an internet connection for this to work :) (so it is no rabbitmq or so which runs on a server and the browser is just the client)

You can try on the demopage when you

1. play the songs each (for them to buffer a little audio snippet)

2. open the page in a second tab

3. Disconnect from the internt

Still works :D

l1am0··on Show HN: Offline JavaScript PubSub between browser tabs
Oh, did not know about it :D Thank you! Added a link to this to the TabSub landingpage
l1am0··on Show HN: Offline JavaScript PubSub between browser tabs
Thank you :) Simple because I don't know any better :'D

I am looking to build a list of German AI products. Because most companies I find are mostly consultancies.

Please help me create this list by adding your company or other AI product companies you know about.

Thank you so much!
