larodi··on The 'Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen' post is misleading
small _automated_ rank-1 edit is not manual edit, sorry. automated is the contrary of manual by definition (which is "thinking by itself", definitely not something done by hand (main in french, thus manual)).

Same here with visuals. So what - is this AI then or not? We can induce this kind of thinking further on… my point is that such discussions are futile.

ablation is not manual, and comes after evaluating which parts to turn off against given desired result.

you make a very valid point. I will adjust my view of things and take into consideration all said here, as it really makes sense from particular perspective.
larodi··on Postgres 19 is late because so many more bugs are being found now
Speaking of impressions and feelings (which are bollocks at the at of the day) - I don't feel like MS has slowed down, and nor does Apple
larodi··on Postgres 19 is late because so many more bugs are being found now
the original source has quite a derogate title, good thing this one survived the vote better.
larodi··on ReBirth RB-338 Reimplementation
fresh (most likely) automatically reversed and dev'd port of the Propellerhead Software (now Reason Studios) legendary RB-338 software, now working on all major platforms.

and then there's the middle ground of ai-generated code generating media... also very obscure to detect, isn't it?
larodi··on ElementaryUI – Swift, in the Browser
cause there was Coffee Script, also, right?

then it needs reinventing, and nobody seems to be in position to do so atm imho
larodi··on Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue
Well they probably knew it all back in 2017 so I’m sure are very well prepared to pivot into whatever comes next.
larodi··on What we know so far about Spain train crash
Indeed the system is all of it - all gear on another level of abstraction where it as a whole is just enabling processes, not the thing running it.
larodi··on We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4
Someone’s surely doing it atm we just don’t know yet. And then we scan all books but the stuff stays local. Perhaps possible, perhaps not. But I don’t see why everyone could not run given the epoch on his content only, reporting back findings (loss).

the notion of "quality" equals very much luxury for many many people... and last time I checked some 90% of the peoples of the world were not concern with it (the lux), but with making ends meet. all opportunities arising would be taken immediately, and if some kid can play a game for 5EUR and likes it, even not the certified origins, his father would not rush to get the 80EUR one (and particularly if he can afford to summon, or like prompt, something workable into existence).

same for many forms of media, and for a lot of physical objects such as luxury items fakes. and we're talking utility here, so I bet lots of people use counterfeit electric equipment because it just works.

of course then comes ingenuity and community, but copyright is so dead, that it cannot be resurrected meaningfully at all perhaps at this moment.

"Valve ought to be funding lawsuits against these bootleggers." - yeah good luck on that. no legal framework exists and they actually benefit from it the same way Spotify and YouTube does. In a way they all welcome this move, and eventually may require you to pay on top for them to inform you of slop alongside banners. Otherwise you get the whole package and tis all business as usual.
larodi··on New 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6
I’ll wait for it to surface on eBay in few years and then consider again. Pretty sure many of these go in the hands of people who can never make good use of all the nice hardware in it.

Escape codes are the new html for browsers now called terminal emulators. What a wonderful time to be alive, but very suspicious also :D
larodi··on IBM CEO says open weight models are now good and cheap on-prem
What he does not say, but imply is that IBM's open models are also good. And they are.
larodi··on Vibe coding is turning the music gear world upside down
Nice overview of actual trend myself also finds part of with gadgets around.

larodi··on C++ futures part 1: The mental model
how's this in the news, I mean I don't get it. C++ had futures for at least 10 years now?
larodi··on OpenBSD 8.0
Tell me tis not AI, cause it sure as hell looks like one.
larodi··on I no longer care to work on any Ruby gems so I've archived all my repositories
Very simple - you don't see it because it does not get released. What you see get released, though, most people would not register so fast on their radars. And it is very bold to say "no, I don't see how antirez is puttin LLMs to work" or something along the line. Well, very often you don't see most of such people's work until it's literally everywhere. Llama.cpp a good example of such software, and yes, it accepts LLM-assisted code.

When I forecasted open-source is going down because nobody wants to expose himself only to be robbed off credit and authorship, he did not initially understand what the claim was. Two years now.

they may well be busy surviving AI induced chain reactions letting lots of people out of work.
larodi··on Hybrid Reasoning Agents: LLM agents that think in latent space, act through text
yes precisely. but many been warning (myself including) against this, but also understanding the inevitability of it.

DUB opened the portal to outer dimensions for people too afraid of LSD. They emerge pretty much at the same time, and also DUB is quite psychedelic on its own.

perhaps you're right, things evolve. sadly i need to target more nvidia for production, so mac stuff is still second level of concern, though indeed very promising, and oerhas for increasing amount of tasks.
larodi··on QGIS enacts moratorium on AI contributions
Saw it the other day on twitter, and wondered why is it not part a of the ArtCraft :D Perhaps they didn't realize this ArcPro thing exists. Jokes aside, the rewrite may pave door for many people actually turning to this workflow, and to an actually working GIS software.

Most of the GIS people I know, and I really know some, are totally oblivious about the underlying magic of QGIS or ArcPRO, and many of them would happily go away from both for many reasons.

Mind U - ArcPRO is also an ecosystem, no only maps layer, is actually an ERP of sorts, when tied with the ArcServer and the rest in their design. But is quite heavy, super bloated (ArcPRO brings own Python, Postgres, Java, and perhaps the whole proj+geos libs also and whatnot).
