lessname··on Inertia.js – Build React, Vue, or Svelte apps with server-side routing
I really like the server side routing part of Inertia and that you can pass data to the frontend directly in the first request without needing to do an additional http request (altough this might be a bit problematic for sensitive information in case the sites are cached).

However, there are also things that make it feel gimmicky:

- The resolve function createInertiaApp runs more than once (mainly) on the first page load causing a re-render and it seems like there is no plan to fix that in near feature https://github.com/inertiajs/inertia/issues/1595 / https://github.com/inertiajs/inertia/issues/1091

- There are issues like this where they could at least merge the PR to improve the documentation as there seem to be many people to misunderstand the usage the function but it did not happen https://github.com/inertiajs/inertia/issues/1631

To name a few:

* December 2016 Istanbul car bombing / suicide bombing near a football stadium, killing 44 people

* October 2016 Istanbul bombing - injuring 10 civilians

* June 2016 Istanbul bombing / killing 6 civilians

* March 2016 Ankara car bombing killing 37 people

* June 2006 Manavgat (in the province Antalya, a popular region for tourists) detonation of a bomb in a tourist site, killing four people

lessname··on British journalist held by police at Luton airport for five hours without arrest
Great question. The journalist named in the article (Matt Broomfield) is asking authorities to delist the PKK (which clearly IS a terrorist organization targeting civilians) as a terrorist organization.

I would like to add, Turkeys concerns about the NATO entry of Sweden were not without cause: Sweden has introduced an arms embargo against Turkey, prohibiting arms exports to Turkey. NATO is a military alliance and in case one member gets attacked, others have to support this member. However, one cannot really be sure if that will happen when one country has been initiating arms embargos against another member.
lessname··on Caddy is the first and only web server to use HTTPS automatically and by default
How does Caddy compare to Nginx Unit? Is the API easier to use?
lessname··on Apple’s strict on App Store rules but gives WeChat a free pass (2020)
Is it really the power of WeChat or the chinese government though?
lessname··on Show HN: YouTube Full Text Search – Search all of a channel from the commandline
What I really would like to see on youtube is a full text search on video content, at least for videos with subtitles.
lessname··on Tracking the Fake GitHub Star Black Market
Why? You can find these websites anyway if you search for terms like "buy github stars"
lessname··on Tracking the Fake GitHub Star Black Market
How did you find out the name of the company behind GitHub24 though? If I go to their website I do cannot see it, I even cannot find anything if I search the company name.
lessname··on YouTube millionaires are not your friends
If you learn programming you can create a completely unique and useful program. Dropshipping on the other hand is thousands of different people selling the exact same product, there is no value added.
lessname··on Twitter restricted in Turkey in aftermath of earthquake
This is so sad because twitter is still mainly used by people to help each other, e.g. to tell where help is needed or who can help.
lessname··on Google to reduce workforce by 12k
This leaves only Apple as a tech giant that has not announced layoffs yet. I wonder if they are going to follow this "trend".
lessname··on YouTube Doesn't “Get It”
I really dislike youtube shorts because it's literally unusable on desktop. And it always pushes political content (mostly right wing but also religious stuff) like "x destroys sjw" where someone giving a speach starts "roasting" someone from the audience for their supposedly ridiculous views.

There are also too many videos of people like Andrew Tate and short movie clips. The "funny" part: I still get to see them weeks later even though I disliked the videos.

It seems to me that many Youtube creators do not want to create shorts. However, the algorithm for shorts seems a bit flawed too:

* On Instagram for example I get to see videos in different languages (which does not happen really often on Youtube, even though I speak these languages and watch youtube videos in these languages)

* I get to see much more "crappy" content with like 10 likes

* Some videos I have seen on shorts were a quite disturbing, such a thing did not happen on reels

lessname··on Ask HN: Someone is proxy-mirroring my website, can I do anything?
If they copy the Javascript too, you could a code that checks if the domain matches and if not show a blank page (or something like that)
lessname··on Elizabeth Holmes sentenced to 11 years in prison for Theranos fraud
I wonder if she did make any profits out of Theranos or was it all for nothing?
lessname··on Can the Visa-Mastercard duopoly be broken?
Baidu is not a competitor to Google. Even if there was an English version of it, with so much censorship it wouldn't be able to compete. Bing and (maybe) Brave Search are small competitors to Google.
lessname··on Finland’s Green Party endorses nuclear power
I think one of the biggest issues with nuclear power is that they are designed to last decades yet they need to bee maintained properly operate safely over time, which can be a bit expensive and responsibility shifts over time so it gets "forgotten" easily and leaders can blame their predecessors if something bad happens.

Here is a research about the safety status of nuclear power plants in switzerland: https://correctiv.org/top-stories/2018/09/12/brandgefaehrlic... - sadly in german only

lessname··on Show HN: A tiny solar-powered server only awake during the day
Then humans try to darken the sky, which results in robots using humans as a source of power. Sounds familiar.
lessname··on Ask HN: Why isn't there a Google competitor emerging?
Thats because many companies directly type in their data on Google My Business to make their business easier to find. There is also a community doing this (same with facebook). Smaller competitors could do the same with a community or at least manually typing in the data at least for bigger companies.
lessname··on ICANN's rejection of Ukraine's request to sever Russia from the internet [pdf]
I wonder how big thre effects were if somehow cloudflare or aws decided to stop serving to Russia (or another country).
lessname··on Two lines of CSS that will improve HN on mobile (IMO)
I wouldn't say that. Maybe not the best design you might think of but much faster than e.g. indiehackers.
lessname··on Ask HN: Why doesn't anyone create a search engine comparable to 2005 Google?
This might work well in some situations (e.g. research, development), however it would also increase the effect of echo chambers I think.
lessname··on PHP is worth learning and using
There are other solutions to long polling now. You can use Pusher, ReactPHP or Amp (https://amphp.org/) to use websockets with php instead.
lessname··on PHP is worth learning and using
I would be a little bit careful while using swoole. They added some code that loaded code from a third party server [1] (a core developer who seems to be located in china). Even though it seems like they removed it doesn't bring a good feeling. It seems like there were also some disagreements with a contributor who maintained the website of swoole and he forked it [2]: https://github.com/openswoole/swoole-src

lessname··on NocoDB – Turn your SQL database into a Nocode platform
What I do not like is that it tries to subscribe me to a newsletter on a self hosted app (you might not recognize the checkbox at the first look). And the google feedback form inside the app is quite weird. Besides from that it seems quite interesting, especially for non-coders.
lessname··on What software engineers should know about search (2017)
You might be right in most cases (for example blogs etc) but it's just disturbing on apps like spotify if you just can't find the music you want to listen inside the app. Or when Netflix gives unavailable movies as search suggestions.
lessname··on YouTube’s rules are used to silence human rights activists
afaik these are testimonials for people who are disappeared now, so they are already in the hands of the chinese regime

lessname··on CaspianReport's YouTube Channel hacked, 75K watching live

lessname··on Hackers take over prominent Twitter accounts in simultaneous attack
I do not think that a 3rd party tweet scheduling program has been hacked, because the tweets say they have been sent by “Twitter Web App”. Maybe the new feature on twitter.com to schedule tweets has a security vulnerability?
