lippihom··on The Boeing 747 begins its final descent
Somehow archive.is has mostly stopped working for me on many mainstream sites (Bloomberg, NYT, WSJ, etc...).
lippihom··on Why Do We Sleep Under Blankets, Even on the Hottest Nights? (2017)
I love weighted blankets but have to be careful that they're not "too" heavy. I used to have sleep paralysis relatively often as a kid and a too heavy weighted blanket often re-triggers this, which is obviously terrifying.
lippihom··on Fix the iOS keyboard before the timer hits zero or I'm switching back to Android
I don't understand why people are such huge fans of iMessage / iOS. I have both an iPhone and an Android and the iPhone texting experience is worse in almost every way, including getting way more spam.

Why doesn't a keyword filter exist? Any time someone tries to send me a recruiting message, just let me flag it for auto-deletion please. Jfc.

lippihom··on I stopped following the news
There's two kinds of news I read, both of which I've found give a "good enough" / "middle ground" picture of things.

1) Financial news, specifically the Financial Times - middle, Bloomberg - slightly left leaning, and the Economist, slightly right leaning. I've found that they have incentives to keep their news as close to just presenting the pure information as possible, as their readers are often making investment decisions based on the quality of the information, resulting in wanting zero "spin". This isn't the case for the NYT or WSJ, which have an incentive misalignment.

2) Anything that shows up on Hacker News. I trust that if something is important enough to get posted here (and make the front page), then I should probably be aware of it. The comments are for the most part measured, analytical, and thought-provoking.

lippihom··on Deutsche Telekom is throttling the internet
2026 - 40 = 1986 was right before more mainstream internet adoption. Yep checks out, Germany today.
lippihom··on 1000 Blank White Cards
Fun game - never heard of this before.
lippihom··on 10 years bootstrapped: €6.5M revenue with a team of 13
Great product but quite onerous pricing / rates.

As a fellow bootstrapper the lack of flexibility when it came to dealing with customer service was super frustrating. I referred a few fellow founder friends to them early on but now have made it a priority to switch to an alternative.

Congrats on the 65% margins though!

lippihom··on 10 years bootstrapped: €6.5M revenue with a team of 13
Not in my experience at all. Very solid product but incredibly frustrating trying to negotiate / get a bit of wiggle room in regards to pricing.

My plan auto-renewed for 2026 but it's become a priority to move everything off of Dato to another CMS for 2027.

lippihom··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2025 – Show and tell
Interesting - why Bing?
lippihom··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2025 – Show and tell
What were your issues with f5bot? I tried to sign up and Supabase auth went to spam btw.

The map for this is cool but a table view would also be nice.
lippihom··on Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility
"The wider area is also known as a 'spacecraft cemetery', because hundreds of decommissioned satellites, space stations, and other spacecraft have been made to fall there upon re-entering the atmosphere, to lessen the risk of hitting inhabited locations or maritime traffic."
lippihom··on Rubio stages font coup: Times New Roman ousts Calibri
This was super cool - nice little Google easter egg.
lippihom··on Kilauea erupts, destroying webcam [video]
Both the photo and the uploading account are now gone.
lippihom··on Interactive World History Atlas Since 3000 BC
If they have an API, why scrape if you can collect their data in the way they want it to be collected?
lippihom··on Show HN: I built an interactive HN Simulator
I tried posting this to /r/Berlin and got downvoted into oblivion fyi.
lippihom··on We're learning more about what Vitamin D does
In the 1930s, the US starting fortifying milk with vitamin D in an effort to eradicate rickets, so it's definitely doable. Learned this after moving to Germany and realizing none of the milk here has any vitamin D added.
lippihom··on Anthony Bourdain's Lost Li.st's
Where would you go instead? Have a few favorite spots for Hanoi/Singapore?
lippihom··on LinkedIn is loud, and corporate is hell
Wish there was keyword muting. I actually have quite a few connections that are interesting to follow - it's just their content never shows up in my feed.
lippihom··on Show HN: I built an interactive HN Simulator
The comments on Berlin: https://news.ysimulator.run/item/2336 could have been straight from /r/Berlin.

Wikipedia doesn't have an API?
lippihom··on A down detector for down detector's down detector
Relevant: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lists_of_lists (editing discussion is amusing).
lippihom··on Lessons from Growing a Piracy Streaming Site
You should reach out to Scott Chacon - he's very accessible and I feel like he'd be sympathetic to your situation and could fix everything up quite quickly.
lippihom··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2025)
Working on https://tipsiti.com/ - local travel tips (both places and products).

Came from my frustration with Google Maps in Germany constantly having take-down requests for bad reviews and ratings. To get around this, we only list places we recommend.

lippihom··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
Here in Germany we are about to start our daughter in pre-school ("kita") and every single parent had to fill out a few forms explicitly stating if they were ok or not ok with having photos or videos taken of their child (both by staff and by other parents).
lippihom··on Fall Foliage Map 2025
Was hoping this would work for everywhere around the world. Cool project though!
lippihom··on Models of European metro stations
Awesome project.
lippihom··on FCC bars providers for non-compliance with robocall protections
Robocalls are a huge pain but just as annoying is non-stop spam text messages. No idea why Apple doesn't allow for keyword filtering. Spam and robocalls are mostly nonexistent problems on Android.
lippihom··on Yearly Organiser
Cool.
lippihom··on OpenAI raises $8.3B at $300B valuation
Ads in answers coming with OpenAI becoming the gateway to all online shopping.
