lleb97a··on Station of despair: What to do if you get stuck at end of Tokyo Chuo Rapid Line
They bought 7-Eleven Australia, too.
lleb97a··on Humans are living longer than ever no matter where they come from
Do we "live" longer, or die slower?
lleb97a··on Boulder Dash
I swear I was better at this game 30 years ago than I am now.
lleb97a··on The Samsung Galaxy S23’s bloated Android build somehow uses 60GB of storage
I'm typing this on an S7 that refuses to die. Not looking forward to buying a new phone.
lleb97a··on Gen Z Netiquettes
It only just occurred to me that I finish every sentence with a . While no one I'm talking to does.
lleb97a··on Is tipping getting out of control? Many consumers say yes
This has begun happening in Australia at the self service machines.
lleb97a··on Artist banned, told to “find a different style”- AI-made art
Some artist are pissed off that the AI can only generate art because it stole the reference pictures they spent countless hours creating.
lleb97a··on Ask HN: Has anyone here turned around their life in their 40s?
Don't forget that the journey is the destination. When you make the long process of change itself the goal, life becomes more interesting.
lleb97a··on McDonalds Event Driven Architecture
I'm with you. I'll use the self service in shop but I never use the app.
lleb97a··on Show HN: I made a pretty relaxing puzzle game
Great job! I found it the right balance of relaxing and challenging.
lleb97a··on For some with ADHD, the low rumble of brown noise quiets the brain
If you're looking for some variation, consider the various Dark Ambient labels on YouTube. It's become my go to music as I've gotten older; I pretty much can't listen to music with vocals anymore.
lleb97a··on Ever-expanding animation of the life of the 796th floor of a space station
Absolutley mesmerizing, love it.
lleb97a··on Ever-expanding animation of the life of the 796th floor of a space station
Thanks for the link. I've recently taken a liking to this style of art.
lleb97a··on Keep ’em coming: Why your first ideas aren’t always the best
I believe Stephen King said something along the lines of "Good ideas stick around." I've come to treat it as gospel. Any idea that nags at me over days/weeks/months tends to be worth pursuing.
lleb97a··on An antiwar masterpiece misunderstood… or was it? [video]
I was too young to perceive the game like this, but I sure remember how many hours I spent playing it. One of my favourite, maybe I will give it another run someday.
lleb97a··on Moderation is different from censorship
I always thought the original moderation method of Slashdot better; a simple slider that adjusted the thread based on the quality of conversation you desired.
lleb97a··on Ask HN: What is going on with YouTube Shorts links?
I don't make a habit of watching shorts, but the one I did earlier - a motorsports highlight- did the exact thing you're describing.
lleb97a··on “Skimpflation” is hitting everything from food to hotels
I have a Pepsi Max every now and then and I noticed the taste had changed. However, it seems to have gone back to the original flavor for now.
lleb97a··on Software I’m thankful for (2021)
Ad Blockers.
lleb97a··on Why long-term plans don't work and how to fix them
Long term outlooks work provided you scale the resolution, contrast etc... proportionally. This is how I identify the forest from the trees.
lleb97a··on Ask HN: Is it possible to get an 18-year-old to spend less time on the computer?
We had a family friend with this problem. Buying him a dog worked wonders, if such an option is available.
lleb97a··on Listening to songs can cause a physiological response known as “frisson”
> ...Johnny Cash’s “Hurt.”

Feel the need to point out that is a Nine Inch Nails song covered by Cash.

lleb97a··on Listening to songs can cause a physiological response known as “frisson”
It use to for me too. But these days I need to chill more to Dark Ambient.
lleb97a··on 'Perfect Blue' and 'Requiem for a Dream'
The only thing I disapprove of is when I feel that the copy is cheap and lazy, and on the internet, without acknowledgement of the inspiration.

> I find originality has more to do with where they get their inspiration than what they put into it themselves.

I'm not sure I understand how you're separating a person's inspiration from who they are. If I'm inspired by something, it's because it talks to me as a person. If the person then creates something, how have I not put the inspiration (myself) into it. They are one and the same to me.

lleb97a··on 'Perfect Blue' and 'Requiem for a Dream'
My memory fails me, but I think it was Ozzy Osbourne who said he didn't mind people copying him and Black Sabbath. What was important is that they add some of themselves to it, that's how we evolve.

And I agree. All art is copied to begin with, it just depends on how much of yourself you put into your version. If it's a lot, then it will appear quite original.

lleb97a··on Headlines compared: Polish newspapers from 1939 and news websites from 2022
How can you compare two wars 80 years apart given the advancements in nearly every area. Polish soldiers couldn't watch German soldiers moving around from the safety of a bunker via a phone screen. The available, basic intelligence alone could keep a war like this going for months.

It's why I don't understand how it's happened. Wars like this - between modern countries - just should not exist as a matter of common sense (e.g. Mutual destruction theory).

lleb97a··on Technology’s Impact on Morality
> ...we can't build anything on bullshiting.

I completely agree. However, I feel many of the problems we face as a society is because far too much has already been built on it. It was once strategically placed where necessary to maintain operations. Now it's just an industry all to itself.

lleb97a··on Sumerian dog jokes, or the difficulty of translating dead languages
I must of really watched a lot of trash horror films as a teenager; I will forever associate the sumerian language with summoning demons.
lleb97a··on Modern movies teach us awful lessons [video]
Could it be we are use to media/news reporting so we struggle with movies?
lleb97a··on Ask HN: Do you also only read HN headlines and user comments?
It depends on where the article is coming from. If it's from Medium or Twitter etc.. I just read the comments. Otherwise, if there's sufficient interest I'll read the top comments before heading to the article.

Generally I'm here for ask/show HN.
