lp92··on From confession to conspiracy: How the Wedgewood fake polls story spread
> Wedgewood Polls — a small polling firm that had launched in June 2026

Yeah a new company setup a few months before the election doing this. Doesn't sound shady at all.

The pivot to claiming it was an experiment is just damage control for being caught.

lp92··on Is my data used for model training?
I've tried smaller models and the best open models for a specialized UAV focused CAD + CFD + DFM optimization application I'm building.

The best open weights models still had a lot of defects and very egregious mistakes to fix even after I provided a very well detailed Requirement/Design/ Technical Implementation plans.

Opus and Gemini 3.8 (and now Argon) did a significantly better job. So I've baseline using these two models to build this application. I now use Opus for design/review and Flash 3.8 for the code gen/implementation work.

I'm sure small models and even open big models are probably fine for many common small apps and such, but they aren't really able to perform the same across all use cases.

Not sure if this is possible on the Fuji, but back in the old days of the Canon PowerShot being very relevant, there was CHDK firmware which ran off the SD card on boot. No physical impact to the device and fully reversible by reformatting the SD card. This would be the way to go to reduce bricking chances.

And that Spark isn't running a top end frontier model. Yes, the open weights smaller models that can fit on Spark are getting better, but they are still quite a way off in performance depending on use case.
lp92··on Unveiling The Grid: PCBs made in America, twice as fast as Shenzhen
Aseembly is mostly done by machines now, even for low volume its generally done by a pick and place machine setup. But depending on your product, things like thick power terminals may still be hand soldered as not every manufacturer/equipment can handle these.
lp92··on Raspberry Pi Zero 3W and Pi 4 Model A spotted in device trees
Have you actually benchmarked it? If your current PCs boosting up to 5.5Ghz that means you have a pretty modern PC and quite a lot more powerful than a Pi 5. Also, you're completely missing out the IPC differences even given same clock speed.

If you're going after perf per watt, then sure the Pi will likely win. But not possible for raw performance if what you said is true about having a modern CPU with 5.5 Ghaz boost clock.

lp92··on Raspberry Pi Zero 3W and Pi 4 Model A spotted in device trees
I'm guessing it will still be Micro USB lol.
lp92··on Raspberry Pi Zero 3W and Pi 4 Model A spotted in device trees
It'spossible it's thermal limits are being triggered. Many years ago I had a laptop that started dropping WiFi when it got too hot. Fixed it with some copper shims and thermal tape.

They are two different things. You're not running a full blown Linux OS on the ESP32. But many of the simple projects people used the Pi for can be done with the ESP32.
lp92··on Harvey raised 500M for legal AI, I built the same and open sourced it
Law firms are paying because the founders were former lawyers and know what the customers want and the firms trust that pedigree. As for why they pay Harvy, its about risk exposure and management. Same reason companies pay for Security appliances and vendors rather than trying to roll their own.
lp92··on Harvey raised 500M for legal AI, I built the same and open sourced it
Exactly. The old saying "No one got fired for buying IBM" applies here, except it's Harvey and not IBM.
lp92··on Harvey raised 500M for legal AI, I built the same and open sourced it
No, they are trusting Harvy because the founders have legal/Law background and know what the customer wants. Plus the B2B contracts I'm sure they sign.
lp92··on Sigma Says the Compact, Modular FP2 Is the Ultimate Hybrid Camera
I love my a7c + kit lens + 50mm prime. Its a great compact travel setup And a nice upgrade over my a6000.
lp92··on New 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6
They are just trying to portray "working in the field" creative types/students and alluding to all day battery life.
lp92··on Z2ram from Former Intel CEO
Where are they going to get fab capacity? I doubt Micron, Samsung, and others will provide fab capacity for this. This is a long road ahead.
lp92··on SIMD-accelerated computer vision on a $2 microcontroller
> smart plant sensors that measure soil humidity, temperature, etc.

Hah, that was one of my first projects long time ago before ESP32s even existed (PIC FTW!). Feels like this is one of those rights of passage projects for many people.

lp92··on SIMD-accelerated computer vision on a $2 microcontroller
Likely the not so well trained CBP folks applying things incorrectly.
lp92··on Concerning behavior from a popular open-weight AI model
People actually use Grok for serious work?
lp92··on Concerning behavior from a popular open-weight AI model
I noticed similar behavior too across various different models. So I started asking it to create implementation plan documentation for everything, even for a small fix. I review the plan, clarify and update it very carefully before allowing it to proceed. I haven't had this type of unnecessary "extra credit" efforts since then.
lp92··on A 10-year-old CNN outperforms frontier LLMs for skin cancer diagnosis
Sure, but for some (if not many) business applications Jev style classification is probably good enough that people don't really see the value in spinning up their own model right now.
lp92··on IBM CEO says open weight models are now good and cheap on-prem
It really depends on usecase i guess. I've tried a few open models, they don't hold a candle Argon/Opus/Sonnet when it comes to my current major use case which revolves around CAD and aero simulation development work.

What's your use case where the open models are working well?

lp92··on Amazon’s “digital pacifier” for toddlers
In 20 years or less, I'm sure Amazon will sell a robot nanny to take care of the kids.
lp92··on Is this the new cyber normal?
The AI just accelerated the discovery. The issues have existed for years and many major versions.
lp92··on Sony Retires Its Last 4K Blu-ray Player in Japan, PS5 Is All That's Left
So you're basically avoiding any nee movies that are streaming only?
lp92··on Sony Retires Its Last 4K Blu-ray Player in Japan, PS5 Is All That's Left
I think the PS6 not having disks is pretty much a given at this point. They want people to go digital.
lp92··on Built a site that teaches investing using the live market as the examples
This seems more like day trading than long term investing.
lp92··on Gemma-4-26B-A4B with 39-69% less thinking at same accuracy
That will just make people less likely to use open models for any commercial work.
lp92··on Never-Before-Seen Images Reveal Damage at U.S. Bases in Middle East
> Let's see how the midterms play out.

Most likely the status quo will largely remain because the Democrats love to drop the ball near the end zone.

lp92··on eMudhra to exit global SSL/TLS certificate business
That's a pretty weak excuse considering the same issues apply to other people even in the US. People easily spend 2hrs in traffic around the Washington DC metro area daily and have to deal with a ton of every day life stuff, and unlike in India, getting a cook/nanny/cleaner is a lot more expensive in the US.
lp92··on eMudhra ignored Mozilla Root investigation deadline; blames social media
>It's the perfect time to start requiring all device manufacturers to ship open bootloaders and open source firmware.

You know very well that's never going to happen.
