And mindful people know that by defeating the dragon you become the dragon, which they do not wish. So everyone else is stuck with the old dragon.
lstodd··on Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
DC also has issues with arcing, so switches get complicated and expensive.
lstodd··on Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale
This is a trivial task for 20 year old ArcGIS release. Or an evening with python 2.4 and some docs on file formats.

Now, back then 1-m resolution DEMs were not widely available, but 10-meters were up for download, freely.

lstodd··on You can hack your TVs and gadgets with AI for free now – but should you?
the proxy also dilutes their pii/profiling, so it's kind of benefical
lstodd··on Native Prometheus Integration with Nginx
Pff. Nginxs mods exporting metrics were written by the dozens before Prometheus was a thing.

Prom export is also inefficient as fuck. No one serious uses it.

Edit: I wrote two, one in 2009, another in 2013 in case you wonder.

lstodd··on Now Google says it might use your Gmail and Google Photos data to target ads
Oh believe me I do. (know the type of fraud and abuse they have been seeing).
lstodd··on Now Google says it might use your Gmail and Google Photos data to target ads
You can not offload fraud and abuse on 'oh well there are so many new domains'. This is bullshit.

I went into internets in 1995. Must I tell you about fraud and abuse in early 2000s?

Blocking domains is a cheap shot. It ticks a box somewhere maybe, but it does not and can not prevent or mitigate.

lstodd··on Now Google says it might use your Gmail and Google Photos data to target ads
bullshit. you can thank discord and ditch it.
lstodd··on Now Google says it might use your Gmail and Google Photos data to target ads
As if it did not for all those years.

srsly ppl

lstodd··on Canadians are running out of time to oppose Bill C-22
This also. It's a race who's going to find CP where. Or whatever else.

That's politics 101. Read up Mark Twain's Running For Governor.

lstodd··on Canadians are running out of time to oppose Bill C-22
Haha. You don't email them, you cut off their funding and smear their public image. This is how you make them move, not with emails. It takes some work though.
lstodd··on Docker is weird
Do you feel that docker was done for as of about ten years ago and something better should have replaced it?
lstodd··on eBay Restricts Listings of Radio Equipment, but Exempts Ham-Band-Only Gear
actually a probe from cheap shit chinese multimeter, an article from wikipedia and a swift stab kills. with some practice on a friendly stuffed animal.

UK approach is insane.

lstodd··on Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains
this is not even funny.
lstodd··on Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains
Well you know I don't see how 'registered in Russia' has anything to do with the war. In 2022 alone about 1.5m people emigrated, and are still 'registered in Russia'.

This was a poorly thought-out virtue-signalling knee-jerk back then and of course everyone in their right mind transferred their domains out because this is not how you do business.

lstodd··on eBay Restricts Listings of Radio Equipment, but Exempts Ham-Band-Only Gear
If someone wants a 14" blade, one can fetch some steel from a junkyard and apply an angle grinder to it. Best results with leaf springs. Then wrap one end with electrical tape and it'll chop an arm or a head off no problem. A bit more effort with the grinder and you get yourself something like a gladius.

Now, what is the point of those bans? So people feel safer while not being safer?

lstodd··on Solar panels that plug into your wall
There are things called distribution yards, they are very distinct on google maps, can't be hidden. They were successfully targeted by US in 1990s Yugoslavia war.

It does not take much to bring down electricity distribution.

lstodd··on Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age
well, I did a test once upon a time on an Opel Corsa D 1.1, full weight about 1.3t, and it did reach 139 kph on gps, but.. let's say it if had it in it to go 170, i'd just back off at about 150.

I had no problems going 190-210 on a motorcycle. It's just like boat hull speed, after some limit no matter what you do it just won't go faster.

lstodd··on Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age
well, 1983 peugeot 205 was let's say a rocket. under 800kg and ~70hp (or 120, but that's was just scary)

you just don't get a car like that today.

lstodd··on Secret of Orange Cats Revealed After 60-Year Search
Now we need a paper about how black cats are secretly red and tabby.

(and you can see it on them in bright sunshine, perfect black cats are not, they exhibit both stripes and reddishness)

lstodd··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
I audited it you know. For myself, not to write a report. I don't think half of bitwarden people know how it works better than me.

Result: not recommended for general use.

lstodd··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
Hosted password manager is equivalent to publishing all your passwords outright.

Now, given the general ignorance on infosec I'm suprised that people actually refused to pay to upload their passwords. The world has some hope after all.

lstodd··on Cloudflare acquires Deno
> to attract great engineers, which, not unlike soccer players, can then be "sold" to a different company

this is so much bullshit I don't even.

even if they thought that could actually work : it could not unless by "great engineers" you mean "resume-pad masters".

lstodd··on Cloudflare acquires Deno
like, idk, nginx?
lstodd··on Don't be fooled–LLMs don't reason
It is not obvious that a) reasoning is computable, b) that if it is, it's feasible and c) what reasoning is.
lstodd··on YouTuber Says Cops Visited Him After He Built a Flock-Style Camera to Track Cops
The only way to prevent leaks and abuse is to not collect the data.

Since there can not be any trust in the supply chain and operations, the only way is to ban ALPR outright.
