lucasRW··on The United Kingdom generates less electricity per person than in the 1970s
This is directly correlated to prosperity, just like the number of push-ups you can dot turns out to be a very high-fidelity indicator of your overall health. Obviously, a significant part of the UK politics has been directly aiming at destroying the UK economy and the UK identity.
lucasRW··on Ledger confirms spy chip implant behind wallet crypto thefts
Curious on attribution. DPRK ?
lucasRW··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
And no flights to Europe !! Since then, both Ryanair and Easyjet have OPENED new flights.between the UK and mainland Europe...
lucasRW··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
The thing with the EU is that, worryingly, the less it works, the bigger it becomes (new memberstates, soon, Albania...) and the more power it takes on. This continent is heading for a catastrophic outcome and one must be blind to not see it.
lucasRW··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
And don't forget to fill in all the administrative paperwork on how your business addresses climate change; LGBTQIA+ issues; men/women parity; etc !
lucasRW··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
This sort of BS - which is why the UK left the EU by the way, happens on EVERYTHING. By nature, the EU is an extra layer of bureaucracy which can only exist by: 1.hiring 2. producing regulations to justify its existence. I have quietly seen it dismantle anything that worked in European countries, all while being called a fascist or far-right extremist for doing so. Well, here is the result.
lucasRW··on Half a Second – a book about the XZ backdoor
Highly debatable.

Threat-hunting at that level can easily use VPNs to make attributions, especially if those same VPN exit points happen to be correlated to other stuff that was attributed. And when you are Microsoft or Google (Jia Tan had gmail accounts), the telemetry they have goes way beyond "oh we can't see the real IP lolz".

The group responsible for the xz attempted compromise is circulating in certain Chatham House rules conference. It's just that, as someone there said "no one has had the balls to say it publicly", which in itself gives a strong hint.

lucasRW··on Half a Second – a book about the XZ backdoor
I know.
lucasRW··on Half a Second – a book about the XZ backdoor
Other fun fact: Microsoft and Mandiant have never had any problem doxing Russian APTs when they caught them.
lucasRW··on Half a Second – a book about the XZ backdoor
It's only going to recycle old news. The missing piece is attribution. Had it been the usuals (DPRK, Russia, China), the attribution would have been made publicly. The fact that is has not points as a friendly - especially when Microsoft (who owns Github) had all that telemetry and very likely has the means to find out. Some serious OSINT (consistency of timezone across months if not years of commits) pointed to the Middle East. An obvious Unit name comes to mind.
lucasRW··on EU could open deportation centres outside bloc by next year, says Denmark PM
Does Europe have a duty to provide free food and free home to half the planet ?

Can you also please give us your address, so that any person in need can go to your living room to settle down for a bit ?

lucasRW··on Britain’s output per person is now only just above that of Mississippi
Hmmm... the only people that have "federally weakened" the EU are those that made that continent much poorer and less powerful than it was 20, 30 years ago. So you are correct partially: the US, throughout the second half of the second century, have seeked to weaken Europe and successfully done so (all indicators are worst now than they've ever been in Europe).
lucasRW··on Britain’s output per person is now only just above that of Mississippi
Musk, Vance and Rubio are cheering for Europe to wakeup. Quite the opposite of what you say.
lucasRW··on Britain’s output per person is now only just above that of Mississippi
It's fascinating to see to what lengths people will go to maintain their denial.

As someone who has been in and out, the poverty increase in Western Europe is astonishing. Whatever metrics I will show you, will meet something like "oh yeah but metrics X doesn't mean anything", but still, 20y ago buying a car was fairly standard. Going on holidays same. Let's not talk about buying a house. Nowadays, any of the above is considered as a sign of being "privileged", while it used to be middle-class before.

lucasRW··on Britain’s output per person is now only just above that of Mississippi
True of course, this is ONE indicator, but a key one, and what matters is not so much that the metric now matches Mississippi. It is that it used to match the wealthiest states in the US, and now it matches the poorest.

The metrics are similar for most of western europe, which objectively destroyed its economies over the past 30 years throught "social-democracy", 50% taxes, crazy state expenditures, bureaucracy, etc.

lucasRW··on The newest Instagram “exploit” is the goofiest I've seen
Interesting, especially as i've seen first-hand how my wife was unable to recover her Instagram account, after countless forms, verification codes, verification emails, etc, etc, etc, to the point that she just gave up on recovering her hacked account.
lucasRW··on The United States and Israel have launched a major attack on Iran
I am a simple man: this regime has threatened my family, shot at some of them; it has killed soldiers from my country some time ago (during terrorists attacks in Lebanon); arrested my wife for a loose hijab, before taking her into a van and beating her up. Luckily she was spared the "rape" which is allowed under islam in those very convenient circumstances were it is halal.

That didn't really follow the "international rights" did it ?

lucasRW··on Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed in Israeli strike, ending 36-year rule
This has nothing comparable with "other revolutions" in the middle east, it's quite the opposite in fact: a non-islamist population held under the tyranny of islamist leaders.
lucasRW··on Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed in Israeli strike, ending 36-year rule
There are similar scenes in all Iranian cities. Literally the first morning video we could see Saturday morning before the internet shutdown, were ladies on their balcony jumping of joy that they had struck Khamenei's neighbourhood.
lucasRW··on The United States and Israel have launched a major attack on Iran
Hopefully they finish the job this time and rid us of this horrible islamist regime, to make Iran great again !
lucasRW··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
World War 1 and 2 were both the result of actual military actions, alliances, invasions, etc.

If you want to censor the internet, claiming it is "to protect the children" is still a much better bet than claiming that it is because free speech causes world wars, if you want my opinion.

lucasRW··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
You are free to not listen to Joe Rogan and not look at X if reading/seeing people saying that "a woman cannot have a penis" is unbearable to you.

But why always the need, on the left, to ban everyone else from doing it because YOU want to do it personally ?

lucasRW··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
I dont need Thierry Breton or Van Der Leyen to tell me which podcasts I am allowed to listened to, but thanks for the well-intentionned thoughts for my safety anyway.
lucasRW··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
It does. That's why GrapheneOS left France; Signal is considering doing so to if ChatControl passes. Von Der Leyen and Breton clearly mentioned the possibility of banning X. And there are many other "signals".

But yeah we get it, there's bad censorhip (Iran, China, Russia), and there is the good censorhip, sorry, i meant "protection of children", when it's the EU. :o)

lucasRW··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
That's what Iran, China, and Russia are saying too, right ? :o)
lucasRW··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
"The truth gets through."

Yeah I agree, we shouldn't be too concerned about Iran, Russia, or China, censoring the internet, the truth gets through.

lucasRW··on EU must become a 'genuine federation' to avoid deindustrialisation and decline
By that standards, an EU army would have gone to war in Irak in 2003, dragging french soldiers and the french aircraft carrier despite them being right from the very start.
lucasRW··on EU must become a 'genuine federation' to avoid deindustrialisation and decline
Yeah of course, Europe has already been destroyed by the EU bureaucracy, but lets give them even more powers to implement their dumb ideas even faster, such as... "oh, how about we stopped producing cars by 2030?", or again... "oh, war is bad, guns kills, how about we pass CSR laws that dissuade banks from funding military companies".
lucasRW··on EU must become a 'genuine federation' to avoid deindustrialisation and decline
Also by being a net recipient of billions of EU subsidiarias every year.
lucasRW··on Euro firms must ditch Uncle Sam's clouds and go EU-native
No. "Stronger together" is a hoax, and is only true if all participants are in agreement, otherwise you are "weaker together". 20 years of failed projects (apart from the law saying that bottles should have their cap attached) show that it is impossible to reach consensus with 27 participants.

Put 27 people in a room, all wanting something different, nothing comes out.
