madspindel··on A barbarian tribe's mythic origin story is true, ancient DNA reveals
Vikings took slavs as slaves. In Swedish "slav" means "slave". Vikings was rowers from Roslagen. In Finland they use the name Ruotsi for Sweden and Venäjä for Russia.
madspindel··on US tells France and Germany to release diesel stocks or face US export ban
I think it's mostly Germany and Hungary? It's a shame that so many countries are/was dependent on Russian oil and gas. I'm happy to live in a country (Sweden) where we are independent and produce clean energy from NUCLEAR and hydro.
madspindel··on The problem is not AI code, but not knowing about system architecture or intent
This! I work for a company that has several systems that are older than 20 years and no one really knows how they work. We are using AI to actually get insights in how they really works, to be able to rewrite and modernize the applications.

I can't read the source code since it's 8 million lines of code and written in a programming language I don't know and in a language I don't speak.

madspindel··on Pentagon weighs pulling nearly a third of U.S. forces from Europe
It's about the nukes. Europe doesn't want a world where a lot of countries have nukes so the role of the US in Nato was to provide Europe with a nuclear umbrella.

I'm a Swede and something is going on between France and Sweden related to nuclear weapons. Not sure if it's about placing French Rafael fighter jets with French nukes or some type of collaboration about Gripen fighter jets with Swedish nukes.

madspindel··on Bin Laden's "Letter to America"
> If one wants to find verses justifying violence, the New Testament has them too

You are saying verses that do justifying violence but the ones you provided are just having the word 'sword' in them. Are you really saying that they tell me as a Christian to do violence?

madspindel··on Bin Laden's "Letter to America"
> It is commanded by our religion and intellect that the oppressed have a right to return the aggression. Do not await anything from us but Jihad, resistance and revenge.

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

madspindel··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
No, the correct translation is "God is greater". And it was used as a war chant against Christians.

madspindel··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
> And Christian religion taken by the Romans

It was not taken by the Romans. It was persecuted by the Romans for nearly 300 years.

madspindel··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
Allahu akbar = (Our) God is greater

It's true that Islam is a Christian heresy but to be fair, Islam tries to be it's own State Religion only for the Arabs. So in that sense it's not the same God since they don't believe in the Trinity.

madspindel··on FUTO Swipe – A new swipe typing model
Must say it's a little bit lame that they are boycotting iOS. I will not change phone just to use this app but it would be nice to be able to replace SwiftKey with this.
madspindel··on Noam Shazeer Joins OpenAI
I think he ment Gypsy and not Gentile.

madspindel··on Stockholm poised to become leading European geospatial intel player
> They also depend on the ESA

Sweden is part of ESA, what a strange thing to say. Also, I believe some of the satellites will be sent from Kiruna, Sweden.

madspindel··on Goodbye Visa and Mastercard: 130M Europeans switching to sovereign payment
That number must be wrong? Swish volume during one month was €4759MM as comparison.
madspindel··on Spain has become one of Europe’s cheapest power markets
> You'd still be dependent on other countries for your (nuclear) fuel needs.

Like Canada and in the future also Sweden? Two really hostile countries to be dependent on.

madspindel··on Bun's experimental Rust rewrite hits 99.8% test compatibility on Linux x64 glibc
> We are dealing with a company of habitual liars and promoters.

Any sources to back this up?

madspindel··on Brazil's Pix payment system faces pressure from Visa and Mastercard
> Twint is part of the EMPSA which hasn't really delivered anything tangible.

It's easy to see why. Both Swish and Vipps is part of EMPSA. In Sweden, everyone uses Swish. Vipps (from Norway I believe) wants to expand to Sweden but no one is using it since it's not compatible with Swish. So making it compatible would potentially hurt the business of Swish.

Regulation is needed. Otherwise it will never happen.

madspindel··on The State of Immutable Linux
> It’s 2026, if you’re not using something immutable (or at least reproducable) you’re doing more maintenance work than you should.

I used to use MicroOS on Raspberry Pis and NUCs but the rolling release actually led to more maintenance work (fixing breaking changes like config changes). Eventually I moved to Ubuntu but kept the mindset that all installed applications should be podman containers. I don't miss MicroOS...

madspindel··on Breaking Free
"Meta estimates that ten percent of the company’s annual revenue comes from fraudulent ads on its services – amounting to a dizzying 16 billion dollars.

– Meta is earning billions from consumers being scammed. Even if the company gets fined – a process that takes years – the fines we have seen so far only amount to a fraction of these profits. In other words, Meta has no incentive to solve the problem. Meanwhile, the company doesn’t lift a finger to help its users, whether their profiles are misused in the scam ads, or they fall victim to the scams, Myrstad says. "

madspindel··on Microsoft open-sources LiteBox, a security-focused library OS
> Linux excels over Windows in the area of security by a wide margin

No, this is wrong but might be true if you are talking about Linux package manager vs. Random Windows .exe on internet. But if you are talking about Secure Boot, encrypted disk, sudo etc. Windows is more secure but it looks like https://amutable.com/ will make Linux more secure like Windows.

Edit: Some insecure things on Linux: Dbus (kwallet etc.), sudo, fprint, "secure boot".

madspindel··on Trump to impose tariffs on European nations over Greenland
As I Swede, I must say this list of countries are the countries I love the most in Europe (well, I like the weather in Spain and Italy, but I mean politically).

I would like our countries to integrate more, maybe with a common army. In the Nordics we already have begun to integrate our Air Forces to a common Nordic Air Force. Why not extend that to UK, France, Netherlands and Germany? These countries together could form a quite powerful army, air force etc. that could safeguard Europe against external threats.

madspindel··on European Commission issues call for evidence on open source
I would argue open source is decentralization and proprietary is centralization.

In other words, open source is libertarianism and proprietary is communism.

And this move is to move from Big Tech/"Big State" to smaller alternatives.
