malmz··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
Raycast is krunner but with better UI, more features and more flexibility from plugin.
malmz··on CSS-Tricks in Limbo
It is a great resource for humans.
malmz··on CSS-Tricks in Limbo
This is the real racist, walking through the gate.
malmz··on CSS-Tricks in Limbo
What low level code would that be? Position every element manually with JS and position: absolute? Flex and grid are the low level layout mechanics used for any responsive webapp. Even most native frameworks use the flexbox model.
malmz··on The 37signals Manager Playbook
I would not take any advice from DHH
malmz··on The Lunduke Computer Operating System
Very cool GPL licenced readme and screenshots /s. The lengths this man will go to avoid queer people in tech is staggering.
malmz··on Armadillo – A DNS Server in Gleam for Homelab Use
Extremely important information to know. It means the community around the language cares about creating a safe environment for me and many of my friends.
malmz··on Pact: Anonymous Credentials for the Web
It's always funny to see Gemini brought forward as an alternative to the web. It's a cute protocol for sharing simple documents but it excludes so many use cases. How would you order a shirt online? No sessions and no forms means no interactivity.
malmz··on United Wizards of the Coast recognized by NLRB
Multiple unions striking is not just theoretical but the norm i Europe. There was a large strike against Tesla in Sweden. Many unions across the supply chain joined the strike in solidarity.
malmz··on W Social, public institutions and the theater of European digital sovereignty
W Social is a Swedish company and therefore not an LLC. It is an Aktiebolag (AB), it is closer to a Corporation (Inc). Still for profit but not necessarily evil, just the most common business type in Sweden.
malmz··on Good Internet magazine on indefinite hiatus
Very sad to see it go. Along with The Index, it was one of the few blogs i looked forward to new posts.
malmz··on Elixir v1.20: Now a gradually typed language
I think Elixir is taking a very mature path to typing. No type-annotations (yet) just type inference from existing language constructs like function guards and pattern matching. Also trying to minimize false positives, only giving type errors when it would provably crash at runtime.
malmz··on A 10 year old Xeon is all you need
Running an LLM locally is theoretically viable. Running your blog on your laptop is never viable (unless you hook it up like a server). One just requires compute while the other a stable network.
malmz··on I built a fake Phantom wallet generator
Funny joke until I saw the pricing...
malmz··on Loss32: Let's Build a Win32/Linux
Nvm I can't read
malmz··on Loss32: Let's Build a Win32/Linux
What are you even talking about? Android is by far the most popular mobile OS worldwide. It's only in the US where iPhones are dominant.
malmz··on Showcase: Working on a voice/text chat app in a cyberpunk style
Looks really cool! I've also been experimenting with cyberpunk-y looking ui but this is far cooler than what I've come up with. Although it's funny seeing hints of material design poking through since i kinda associate MD with a lot of corporate dashboards.
malmz··on Cool native HTML elements you should already be using
Tiny nit-pick: onclick="document.getElementById('modal').showModal()" in yellow box 3 seems to not allow word breaks, overflowing the page
malmz··on Show HN: Ariana – A time travel debugger for PY/JS right in VSCode
Did i read that right? What part of a debugger would require the use of an AI language model?
malmz··on Microsoft cracking down people upgrading to Windows 11 on unsupported hardware
You can run SteamOS on a PC, it's just a linux distribution
malmz··on Building a Tiny Linux from Scratch
Styling is broken on mobile (chrome android). Content overflows and the text is shifted off-screen to the left
malmz··on Quadlets might make me finally stop using docker-compose
I have been having a blast using quadlets on my tiny home server. Feels like I'm learning how to use systemd which is a nice bonus. My workflow consists of just connecting vscode over ssh and editing files as needed, which works well since everything is owned by my user.
malmz··on The Subtle Magic of Tsnet
Might be an interesting article but it's hard to get past the large amount of distracting AI art...
malmz··on The UI of Hacker News Is Perfect
I keep seeing people praising the HN UI but just can't see it. The lack of padding makes it hard to differentiate between articles. The many low contrast links below look cluttered. Not to mention how horrible the site is to use on mobile.
malmz··on Atlas OS: A Windows version designed for gamers
Installing Nvidia linux drivers directly from their website is a very bad idea im almost all cases
malmz··on Gnome to prevent theming, wider community not happy
People always talk about the license and stuff but personally, i always shy away from Qt because the only real choice for language is C++ and maybe python. Gtk being written in C gives it much more flexibility in what languages can bind to it.
malmz··on [dead]
What the hell is wrong with people?! Is it that hard to not harass your fellow humans? Think for yourself, what do I want with my short life. And decide if that is making other peoples life worse.
