marcusEting··on Bookshelf.js: An ORM for Node.js with transactions, eager loading, promises
wow this looks great!
marcusEting··on AWS Marketplace
I guess RSS is the best option. Even if you don't have to launch servers I still believe you need to confirm your phone number and some other things. I'm just looking for a way to share news with friends without having to forward the e-mails every time.
marcusEting··on AWS Marketplace
A lot of us get those emails from amazon.com, like the one this morning, "Introducing AWS Marketplace -- Find and Buy Software that Runs on the AWS Cloud". This is great, but I have a friend who likes reading about these but doesn't want to launch servers. Is there some way people can subscribe to the Amazon AWS mailing list without creating an AWS account?
marcusEting··on Growl 1.3 finally available
Good news: It's in the app store, works with Lion (10.7), lots of new features and support for GNTP Bad news: It's in the app store (for $1.99), you MUST have Lion to use it.

marcusEting··on Diff Dropbox previous versions easily from Google Chrome
@wx77 - yes but that extension is a pretty sweet way to preview other extensions :)
marcusEting··on Diff Dropbox previous versions easily from Google Chrome
That's exactly what I use it for. On big projects I use github and tower. But on smaller projects or for just general diffing things in the dropbox this is pretty amazing.
marcusEting··on Diff Dropbox previous versions easily from Google Chrome
The extension says it needs:

1) Your data on dropbox.com and www.dropbox.com

2) All data on your computer and the websites you visit

#1 is obvious. I think it needs #2 so it can save a copy of the older version to disk and then launch the diff tool. If you want to check out the extension before installing it, see http://superuser.com/questions/337172/how-do-you-do-examine-...

marcusEting··on Ask HN: What should I do when a client doesn't want to pay?
this is pretty nice. thanks for sharing.
marcusEting··on Ask HN: What should I do when a client doesn't want to pay?
verbal contract, and then the first invoice, which they paid, included a list of items that were to be completed with the website project. no terms as far as payment due date tho. i think maybe payment of the first invoice with the items listed could count as acceptance of a contract in some places... you're probably right as far as moving on. it is fairly easy to turn off the website though - not sure if that is a ethical thing to do. of course not paying for work is also not that ethical.
marcusEting··on Why did Google Apps reject my client's non profit?
thanks! that's very helpful! seems like lots of people have the same complain, and on several occasions google is actually reviewing and approving the request. i hope they will look into ours.
marcusEting··on Google Fails Graceful Degradation
I have a toggle button next to the address bar in FF. Sometimes I don't want it to load - debugging mostly.

can you describe more about why it is off the mark? you might also try asking which would be a good program on one of the stack exchanges - possibly stack overflow.

this is already being used on production sites like shopify (the admin interface)

marcusEting··on I Believe in the Middle Click
I believed in the middle click, too, and lots of other special clicks... until I switched to a MBP. The I customized the touchpad using the Better Touch Tool and I haven't looked back since! :)
marcusEting··on WHAAAAT? Unlimited storage for $4.99 a month not a viable business model?
If you are a Dropbox Pro user I think you get the packrat addon, which allows for unlimited history / undeletes. So, while the amount of files you can keep in your DB is limited, the amount of data that DB has to keep up with for you could get very large.

I don't see that they have anything to counter this in their model, and it kind of worries me that if people abuse this then they will remove the feature for all users, and I like my unlimited revisions.

marcusEting··on Senate votes to repeal 1099 reporting requirement in health care law
I wish they'd repeal the 1099-K requirement for eBay income :)
marcusEting··on MailChimp now free up to 2000 subscribers
I think most feature a "free trial" at least. I'll see about adding more info to pricing, but was more concerned with coming up with maintaining a list I could share with clients.

marcusEting··on WooMe: TechCrunch40 Finalist, $20 Million In Funding – And One Huge Scam
Yes, I'm curious to see how they deal with a response to the messages. Seems like it would be a lot of trouble for them to do anything besides send some fake messages and not reply to them (although I guess they could automate those, too).

It would really be interesting to create a second account, or even a second paid account, and see if any of the messages were exactly the same.

marcusEting··on Paypal's fraud prevention routine does it again
History of PayPal

The current incarnation of PayPal is the result of a March 2000 merger between Confinity and X.com. Confinity was initially as a Palm Pilot payments and cryptography company. X.com was founded as an Internet financial services company. Both Confinity and X.com launched their websites in late 1999. Both companies were located on University Avenue in Palo Alto. Confinity's website was initially focused on reconciling beamed payments from Palm Pilots with email payments as a feature and X.com's website initially featured financial services with email payments as a feature.

marcusEting··on Why Stack Overflow Sucks and Participating There is Impossible
The other bad thing about SO is that when a question has some answers, even if they are not really right, nobody really pays attention to the question anymore.

So it feels like questions that move down in the queue with a few proposed answers are basically dead.

marcusEting··on Flickr Accidentally Deletes a User's 4,000 Photos and Can't Get Them Back
Yahoo seems to be having trouble in general. First there are rumors that they are shutting down Delicious. Now their photo sharing service is starting to show real problems.

(Not to mention the Flickr API has a KNOWN ISSUE with the search that has a fix ETA of several WEEKS! http://www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157625560721827/)

marcusEting··on What is the best health insurance for freelancers?
Maybe that rate isn't too bad but it seems like too much because I never go to the doctor / hospital. I'm very healthy.

I did incorporated myself (as a freelancer). Does that change anything? Maybe I could add my brothers and do a small company group plan or something?

Thanks for your help, and for the link! :) I've been asking around and this was the first even remotely useful thing I've found! :D
