I'm personally not sharing the connotations of negativity towards software development and the term technical debt. I keep reading implications that most of this has always been in some way preventable, but it really is not that simple. How did nobody find these types of exploits 40 years ago? Why are we suddenly shocked and blame the field for this? I think the majority of people severely underestimate the complexity and seriousness of software. Once that perception stops and the economic incentives are right, we can start to look closer.
Just consider how laughable some working conditions in software are and then come to realize how architecture is shaped by the organization communication patterns and not reality. You will see it in a different light then.
I'm confused, so google made websites indirectly unusable with all the advertisement incentives and then the AI summary came that usually just summarizes some reddit posts and now they subtly and indirectly block universities from using their entire search engine because unis block the AI part of search? What incentive does google even have on presenting the ai summary?
Does anyone even understand the world currently? Its so absurd to me, why does it exist to begin with and why is this drama appearing?
I feel like I'm living in an alternate reality, because I have no idea what this page is about. Something with data centers using up all the water? Reading the comments here and people arguing dcs dont use that much water compared to regular people who drink water, confuses me even more. Like whats next? People are told to drink less and fork over their RAM? That would be wild
I have some wishful thinking for everyone reading this: what if the people at StackOverflow built one of the best bot protections out there? I would honestly expect the graph to go up with all the LLMs and automated content spamming..
I think lego is reaching levels of absurdity that I didn't know were possible. I get that you have to target another demographic with prices like these, but I'd love to hear why. Does no kid play with lego anymore? Are these prices justified or are they now a luxury type of brand for collectors? What is the deal with lego these days?
I think these people operate on a level inconceivable to us, as if money is irrelevant. The valuable part to them is people buying into the narrative and playing QA for free. Whenever you give positive or negative feedback to a chatbot, you are actively creating training data. The next guy who tries to do the same thing will get a one shot solution lol
At some point we will be wearing mocap suits and remote controlling bots to create training data, it will be sold as doing any job remotely :^)
Yeah, a couple of months after I graduated in 2015, it was dead, 5 years after that, same as profile images everywhere, nothing changed, immediately abandoned after the forced school interactions lmao
I go off of marketing obviously, but how is every new announcement of any vendor always on top of all others and then cheaper, while next day the next best and even cheaper model pops up? Is there anyone who independently verifies this? Its kind of pointless to comment on this announcement, much like how its pointless to comment on all the other announcements...
I'm on the wrong site for this, but isn't it interesting how we don't ask what is the most interesting field I can join, but rather ... how do I stay employed with this for the next 44 years? Seems to me we missed the entire point and just accept it as reality and that it has to be this way. I'm not asking this to be snarky or smart, I'm just genuinely curious why everything seemed easier back in the day.
I have to say, Epics vibe is just malicious and toxic. Steam is silent and just lets things speak for themselves. What is the value of an idea if it does not work in the real world?
I just wish the people at Epic collectively took some vacation and came back with a less breathing down neck attitude towards everything. Just chill out, relax, it is a browser for searching, buying and downloading games
The doom posts will continue until profits are up.
Jokes aside, its like working for a company, individually you can lift mountains and someone else will take credit. When you use LLMs for a single bit, all credit goes to LLMs lol
The site took a minute to load in completely and when I scrolled to the bottom I couldn't read the SDK text, it was literally cut off, kinda resembling the current state of coding very accurately lmao
I started coding because of gamedev, seeing this and potentially having some agents take care of the coding part is a blessing. I doubt this works as advertised but imagine iterating on stuff with a couple prompts and you can alt tab back into blender or libresprite. Very cool, lets put economics and employment aside
I think they are very capable, for me personally, I start to lose control and understanding and I don't see much value in that. What I rather do is use them to enhance my understanding, by creating one off debugging tools that pipe some internal state of a program to a dashboard, just like tracy profiler does. A small debug bridge running over TCP/Websockets and a visualization that shows what wiring is active. Building frontends for that has always been an unrealistic chore to me.
I was thinking about the literal fingerprint sensor a device has. Imagine a "prove youre not a bot" challenge and the finger scanner pulls up. What a nightmare, reminds me when a website asked me if I want to login with windows hello (facescan)
I think if you talk to LLMs and give feedback or openly say what works and what doesn't, you are essentially solving a captcha and produce accurate training data, while you pay for the token spend. I'd be a bit nervous with this lol.
Just one unsanitized input and you leak info. Or one hidden character and code may or may not belong to you anymore. Its very odd on many levels
I start my day with plenty of optimism, then I go back and forth in the CLI and find out most of whats posted online is fake, and then towards the end of the day 2h past my bed time I end up ed zitron maxxing, it is the way it is ig
That is a very good idea and there is a market for that, especially if a company manages to source the hardware and then install the stack on a german or EU customer site
I joined a call once to meet a guy and he was all energetic and speaking in tongues of an LLM hitting epic one liners and I thought he was just a coke addict. Turns out his reality is basically linkedin. Like how the hell can you be like this unironically?
