maxdo··on Tesla Semi catches fire on I-880
Yep and you got one incident , it’s a statistical mistake . Regular ev shows a much more clear picture .especially as technology matures , eg 2025/26

maxdo··on Tesla Semi catches fire on I-880
Electrek is so boring , big news :

clickbait vs statistic:

Gasoline truck :

From 2018 to 2022, large trucks accounted for an estimated 15,462 fires, 46 deaths, 102 injuries, and $416 million in property damage each year. That works out to roughly 40 large-truck fires a day.

Overall, Gas cars ( regular size) , getting on fire more often vs electric cars.

maxdo··on The Agent SDK
why do we even care, this is a clear, lets move away from `people pushing software to git` to `agent is pushing software, agentic or not , to somehwere, db, git, or something else` human does involved in this unless there is a problem. JS or Python, is really not essential in this case, maybe it's WASM built from rust. it's not for human.

Cursor moving this direction, is a prep work where human no longer command that much , hence the usage will drop. e.g. their core product is vulnerable. Software factories, is the ultimate game over for our industry.

maxdo··on Anthropic S-1
Majority of big enterprises, or in fact any big consumer will not go there , why pay the margin to open router , if there’s no margin or very very often subsidies to use something else . Aws bedrock for example does not even have up to date Chinese models .
maxdo··on JetBrains Thinkrail
majority of people here, have to read ai for work. that's why you're getting paid nowadays, read, understand, steer and fix errors produced by ai. this is an ai product. It's a bit weird why readme of ai product has to be written by human?
maxdo··on OpenAI and Anthropic cut their LLM prices by up to 80% within a few months. Why?
It’s both competition almost 3 way , cheaper open source , a clearly lagging behind a bit open ai that cuts prices to win Anthropic customers .

There was an interesting technical advantage by some models where Anthropic as a leader start loosing dramatically in speed too. 5.5 made a come back in that dimension.

maxdo··on AI use leads UC Berkeley math professor to see 'no point' in grading homework
this is what comes for education, the same way as agents can solve home work, they can grade, curate what you learn, what you work on etc.

professors needs to be life coaches and motivators, less of a oral/written book reproducer. That part will be automated. Evals also will be in a locked room, do you home work, bi-weekly do the check, correct with agent what needs to be repeated. Measure if you on course/off course doing better/worse. If you are not doing good, escalate to your coach(professor).

I mean, sure, charisma can engage people into several classes, but also, lets be honest what % of professors really got charisma? If it helps lectures are great, the active work should be done with agents, individually and in the team. of human, and other peoples agents. That's the future of work.

maxdo··on I don't understand quantum physics (2018)
No one on earth understands it perfectly.
maxdo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
My example is not a narrow functionalist it’s a complex multi level problem that need several apps .
maxdo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
Anthropic is actually replacing git and will bundle it into Claude code for you. What is so complex about iterm ? And why do you need iterm it’s just a visual trend nowadays, on how to run your agent. Iterm is literally single function to launch Claude code or codex .
maxdo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
Why people bringing token prices ? With my Claude subscription I can do everything from building apps every day to doing room planning and science researches , for a fixed price. Software is not cheaper . Before you could argue oh but it’s a subsidy etc , in reality you can do same things with Chinese models just half a year away for also cost of coffee . It’s cheaper now than sales tax you pay for your saas
maxdo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
Sure , I’ll share you my example I was doing home planning from a shitty plan I had from previous owner . Claude created that with a fraction on my quotas . Eg ~1 dollar . It converted a shitty drawing into 3d , modified the room I wanted , created a few options of visuals, and shopping list from my local store with budgets . Oh and yes it create a local html page for my problem it even created a name nook, not sure why .

With regular software I need an entire package of apps, a specially trained people , and a budget of at least $10k for the same service . Will my services be such a commodity very soon , sure .

Do I want to pay $10k now for manual software and people . Not really , what is the point ? Same way as accountant will not pay one day for the software , I will not pay adobe and designer today .

maxdo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
Claude deploy to dev will use abstractions to do it with software , even more it will deploy you a trigger to do it automatically . Otherwise . Nothing wrong of doing it with voice / text request vs navigating to some ugly Jenkins , or half dead github actions etc .
maxdo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
A chat window that will deploy you perfect ui for any problem you have based on your personal taste , that is funny enough is not that different yet. And yes , that ui will open in milliseconds , and it will be deterministic when needed and agentic and smart when not . This is already happening on a small scale with Hermes . With models getting smarter it will Only get better

this is fun to watch, next week : new fable and astra, also where use muse wonder in this benches? they where leading model in many of these charts.
maxdo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
The question formed wrong . They killed entire industries. I feel like they are at inflection point where they hired fde , but for now they try to solve fancy problems to do not visually scare their customers .

Yet picture is very sad , industries affected to the point that majority of the companies asking about their existence:

1) software dev tools all IDE , developer analytics tools eg jellyfish etc . Dead . On the same note : warp.dev that raised $80m a year ago as an ai terminal… can barely explain why do they exist now.

Visual workflow editors . Older ones and even n8n. There were literally 1000 companies that were doing small deployments. Why do you need it now ? A year ago half of the Internet was booming about these tools .

Any data visualization tools . Gone .

Data integration tools all kind of crm to crm to erp to something else . Solved problem

And you can go on and on . I would probably not exaggerate if I’d say that millions of businesses are heavily affected by, from tiny one to adobe .

maxdo··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
They just start hiring FDEs, a first step towards that.

And they already killed or make existence of many companies not viable , def 1000+ were killed

maxdo··on Ukraine claims first drone evacuation of wounded soldier
That’s false . Ukraine is hitting moving targets with middle strike every single day with ai that knows what to strike. More capable than any f-35 in that regards .
maxdo··on Ukraine claims first drone evacuation of wounded soldier
Yes to hit something 1864 miles away you need to maneuver. Most likely it did > 2000 miles .
maxdo··on Ukraine claims first drone evacuation of wounded soldier
Missions in Ukraine Russia achive same results for 1000 times cheaper. Real war nowadays is cheap and mass produced.

As an example, Russia hits with drones a specific parts of the bridge using mesh network of ER resistant drones . Ukraine is sending drones for 2000 miles deep into Russian territory. F-35 plus payload is not capable of that .

What is the point of sending f-35 if Ukraine can send 5 cheap rockets? And deliver 2-3 tones of payload over the most sophisticated air protection in the world ?

maxdo··on Ukraine claims first drone evacuation of wounded soldier
Because it's not America with Vietnam/ Iraq war mindset.

Helicopters are extremely vulnerable for drone interceptors. With Recent developments, the an interceptor can fly up to 600 km/h. It can also wait for you on the balloon.

Overall, piloted aviation, it's almost a dead end with all the recent capabilities.

maxdo··on Tesla Roadster
tesla roadster weights 1.6-1.7 tons, thats prob without compressed air. But common, if you buy a rocket car, that is capable to suck itself to the road, you will not care about this extra 300-400 kg of weight, that probably will be compensated by perfect low center of gravity and several motors.
maxdo··on Tesla Roadster
yes, you can, if you think like an engineer. they have suction mechanism, low center of gravity that helps you to beat any ICE counterparts.

You can't call this beauty of engineering a muscle car.

maxdo··on Muse Spark Open

everyone is doing backdoors, except eu, they just receive bribes from those who install backdoors.

the only difference is: the backdoor is made to kill people like you or not. I'd rather have a backdoor that is installed to kill someone on the different continent, e.g Iran leadrship, not in my country/city.

maxdo··on Muse Spark Open
great, I've been reading series of papers related to open source/open weight LLM Backdoors.

It's 100% possible, curious when will be the first incident.

Having something built by entity with HQ in the wester world is always a bit safer. That could be mistral, but they decided to be a consultancy company, not an ai lab.

maxdo··on Tiny Little Office
patching dependencies correctly was one of the first agentic coding tasks llm solved 100%. you will need to dedicate a session once a year to to such patches. Or community of vibe coders will do it for you .
