Those of us who love computers need to have something slightly wrong with us, an irrationality to our rationality, a way to deny all the evidence of our eyes and ears that the hostile box of silicon is dead and unyielding. And fashion by cunning machinery the illusion that it lives.

The journey is not based on increasing success
    Rather in increasing awareness
You are here to discover the deepest truth
    About yourself
All the things you think is wrong with you
Is just a doorway to the discovery
    Of your strength
Where I was searching for the meaning
    I found myself instead
    Release yourself
    To the unknown

"Man is a gregarious animal. We work in herds, in teams. The bear can do exactly as he pleases, for he works alone. We do not work alone. We depend throughout our lives on the goodwill of other men. Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is. — Carl Jung

Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them. — Brian Eno

Saying yes frequently is an additive strategy. Saying no is a subtractive strategy. Keep saying no to a lot of things - the negative and unimportant ones - and once in awhile, you will be left with an idea which is so compelling that it would be a screaming no-brainer 'yes'. — unknown

metadat··on Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy?
LG and Samsung TVs are known to record and transmit audio of everything said in their vicinity as well as scan your network and upload the scans.
metadat··on Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy?
This worked great for me for years until a dog sitter stayed over and hooked up the TV to the Wi-Fi.

Now the TVs MAC address is banned from the router, so this particular edge case can't happen again.

Agreed.. and what is going on with the `!` syntax? The docs are not exactly clear on the purpose in all cases.

metadat··on Google's servers can scan what you copy in Chrome for unsafe content
Yes, this is ridiculous. When Chrome first came out I thought it was weird and resisted using it because of abuse concerns, but Google's perpetual investment has captured the market and Chrome is now the standard. Disgusting.

Nice.. and how many toks/sec?
metadat··on GLM-5.3-Flash
Qwen 3.8 27B is around Opus 4.8 level of capability on the Agentic Intelligence Index (52 vs 57). In my testing the locally hosted Qwen is good enough that looking at a given piece of work output I couldn't tell you which model was behind it.

That was actually Watchdogs 2. Great game, basically GTA but you are a hacker in the Bay Area. The SF portion of the map was accurate down to every building.

In my testing I got 150 tokens/sec with a single 5090 RTX.

metadat··on Qwen 3.8 27B
You may be able to run a quantized version. One strategy I've found effective is to set Claude or Codex loose on the problem and they'll do a decent job setting up the best possible model revision.
metadat··on Qwen 3.8 27B
How can you say this when you haven't even tried it yet? Is it just hypothetical vibes?
metadat··on Windows 11's built-in Weather app wastes more than 1 GB of RAM
I still miss Battlefield 2. There is really nothing like it today, not even close. The dynamics with squads and a commander and A+ physics and overall game balance remain unmatched for all FPS games.

Fortnite, PUBG, COD, all are disgraceful in comparison.
