michelb··on NASA's Voyager 1 mysteriously lost touch with Earth
I missed this, fantastic!
michelb··on OccupySaaS
yeah it's weird seeing Salesforce on that site, where if you previously worked for Salesforce, you were definitely part of the problem. This is ridiculous.
michelb··on NASA's Voyager 1 mysteriously lost touch with Earth
Could it have crashed into something? I find it incredible that that hadn’t happened yet.
michelb··on We should be more ambitious with the software we build
I would like operating systems vendors to be way more ambitious. There is no reason for Apple's Finder/spotlight to be so slow, when a guy with an LLM makes an alternative that is 500X faster. There is just no excuse now. Sure, it'll be more complicated to do it right, with all the decades of baggage, but now you can expend 3-4 people on radically optimizing different subsystems and see if there are any quick wins.
michelb··on An ad-free Android TV
Well, here's something it seems. Have not tried it, I have an other model. https://github.com/chris-ritsen/samsung-tv-root
michelb··on Show HN: Omnara – Open-source alternative to Claude Managed Agents
Would love a blog post!
michelb··on United Airlines CEO Calls for National Wealth Tax
I think some figure they will die before any negative consequences hits them. And the hardliners are actively working on changing that social contract, where you will have no choice but to comply, because you will have no power. Many dictatorships still live on, in one form or another, with the elite doing just fine.
michelb··on An ad-free Android TV
Would love a debloater for Samsung Tizen TV's
michelb··on Superlite: A Faster Alternatie to Superpowers
I've been using Compound Engineering by Every for a long time now. I like the brainstorm and plan features. Similarly I like the /grill-me skill by Matt Pocock. As a mediocre programmer, they help me get my ideas refined, documented and implemented.

I have found most of the other skills to emulate an 'enterprisy' way of developing, having everything checked multiple time by 'councils' and whatnot, making things slow, vacuum tokens like mad and the whole process reeks of cargo culting.

michelb··on SpaceX activated 100mph speed-limit restriction on Starlink terminals in Ukraine
And given that Musk is now the biggest donor to republicans in the midterms, the dems probably don’t stand a chance. Again. So bad news for ukraine and the rest of the world.
michelb··on Thunderbird for iOS
That thread is both hilarious and sad. Incredible that nobody has forked the project simply to implement a working search.
michelb··on French supermarket chains say cyberattack forced refrigerator shutdown
In the Netherlands and belgium Albert Heijn supposedly got hacked today https://nieuws.ah.nl/mediastatement-inzake-it-incident/

michelb··on Bot traffic from Yandex
Indeed, most of my server's 'Chinese' and 'Russian' bot traffic is originating from US IP addresses.
michelb··on Bot traffic from Yandex
Activate the failover datacenters in orbit :)
michelb··on My personal AI agent posted my bank details on company Slack
Well that’s one way for people to never trust XMTP labs, if the CEO is this dumb and reckless with PII.
michelb··on GPT-6.1 Sol replaces GPT-6 Sol after just 7 days, with near-Astra intelligence
I REALLY need new seasons of 'Silicon Valley'
michelb··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
The opposite is being planned I guess: https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/1172988215620...

michelb··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
For me, just creatine doesn’t seem to do a whole lot. But heavy workouts (with or without creatine), energize me enormously.
michelb··on Starlink ground station in Poland hit by fire in suspected arson attack
Effectively this is an attack on an American company’s infrastructure?
michelb··on Samsung accidentally freezes its smart fridges with a software update
>It has been going for 11 years, moved two times and doesn't show any signs of going out.

I replaced my AEG washing machine last year after ±10 years of service. The new one, also roughly 200 euro, uses a fraction of the energy, and cleans better. I should have swapped it out way earlier to save money.

michelb··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
Thank you so much for sharing! And yes, I would read the book as well :)
michelb··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
but does it still take up the 35GB?
michelb··on Houthis used Claude Code to develop missile guidance software: Anthropic
It’s probably the influence of the current American administration, but I find all these AI weapons projects and startups so unbelievably uninspiring. Same with the fighting robots. We finally have a somewhat intelligent AI and we’re not advancing our healthcare, personal care, environmental problems, speeding up construction, finding new materials, etc.

The first one that gets to AGI will make the world worse instead of better. Depressing.

michelb··on iPhone Duo
Exactly, most Chinese/Eastern brands already standardised on the passport form factor, which is also why Apple chose it I guess. It has aspect ratio benefits.
michelb··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Maybe, but I would argue the Vision Pro is a devkit.
michelb··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Golden HN rule: the more complaints, the more successful the product will turn out because normal people like it. It’s like the inverse Cramer.
michelb··on Apple Watch Ultra 4
When the patent trolls die down and accuracy improves.
michelb··on iPhone Duo
