midlander··on Ask HN: What is no longer worth learning in programming due to AI?
- You don’t need to learn debugging, just regenerate until it works.

- You don’t need to learn types, the model knows what you meant.

- You don’t need to learn security, just ask the LLM to make it secure.

- You don’t need to learn performance, you can always scale later.

midlander··on Over 36,500 killed in Iran's deadliest massacre, documents reveal
Today, Jews are denied entry to many Muslim countries - not just Israelis, anyone who looks Jewish.

The excuse that “some other people of this religion did something bad” does not justify hating and ethnically cleansing everyone who shares that religion.

midlander··on Bad Claude's Constitution
What we actually need is an LLM with critical thinking, that could just be honest when something doesn’t deserve compliments.
midlander··on Over 36,500 killed in Iran's deadliest massacre, documents reveal
> The oppressors and the victim are clear in the Israel - Palestine conflict

Only if you zoom in and focus on one tiny sliver. If you look at the bigger picture, Israel is surrounded by dozens of countries 100s of times its size, that have all been ethnically cleansed of Jews, many of them in different stages of open or proxy war with Israel, militarily or politically.

midlander··on Over 36,500 killed in Iran's deadliest massacre, documents reveal
I’m appalled at the lack of balanced comments in here. Acknowledging the humanity of the people on both sides. That both deserve to live in peace. That both have suffered deaths and injuries from the other side. That both can claim the other side has committed war crimes.

Demonizing one side is neither rational, moral, nor conducive to resolving the situation.

midlander··on Over 36,500 killed in Iran's deadliest massacre, documents reveal
There are hundreds of videos of tower blocks being bombed, where people are standing a distance away with cameras set up, ready and waiting, because they’ve been warned and evacuated. These are not the actions of an army trying to target civilians.
midlander··on Over 36,500 killed in Iran's deadliest massacre, documents reveal
These are 30,000 human lives. Their value doesn’t diminish because of a larger supply.
midlander··on Claude Code Is Locked in Your Laptop
Well, there’s Claude Code Web.
midlander··on Iran Protest Death Toll Could Top 30k, According to Local Health Officials
The official government policy, which they have communicated many times, is that the goal was return of the hostages and dismantling of Hamas. Since the return of all the hostages, there has been a drastic drop in fighting - the figures have not changed much in recent months (although the condemnations haven’t subsided). The stalemate at the moment is waiting for Hamas to disarm and hand over control to a civilian Palestinian government.
midlander··on ICE using Palantir tool that feeds on Medicaid data
You think that people who were not born in America cannot be trusted / are not moral?
midlander··on ICE using Palantir tool that feeds on Medicaid data
The irony of a post about Palantir working with ICE devolving into xenophobia about the founders of Palantir.
midlander··on Iran's internet blackout may become permanent, with access for elites only
You treating human life as less worthy if a population has more of them?

It’s 30k in a week - all civilians vs 60k in 2 years - in a mixture of civilians and combatants.

midlander··on ICE using Palantir tool that feeds on Medicaid data
Not sure what point you were trying to make, but if it was about inconsistency on the Left, you could’ve picked better examples, like give all Americans citizenship to Greenland, or give all Russians citizenship in Ukraine.
midlander··on Yes, It's Fascism
Well done on finding a way to link this story to your favorite scapegoat.
midlander··on Tell HN: I Have Won HN
Congratulations! Does it roll over to negative when you reach the end?
midlander··on The '3.5% rule': How a small minority can change the world (2019)
The rule doesn’t really make sense in a small country with proportional representation. The government can stay in power as long as a majority of the country wants it to stay in power.
midlander··on Show HN: I used my book generator to generate a catalog of books it can generate
You can build something like Library of Babel – but for books that make sense.
midlander··on Show HN: Kreamsicle – Cmd+K command palette for Hacker News
Really like this. Will have to try it when I’m on a desktop.
midlander··on Iran Protest Death Toll Could Top 30k, According to Local Health Officials
There’s no magic right to kill n people for n deaths. If 1 person killed a 1000 people, that doesn’t give you the right to kill 1000 people.

If an army of 100,000 attempts to kill as many people as they can but have only managed 1000 so far, you can kill as many as many of them as you need until they stop trying to kill you.

midlander··on Iran Protest Death Toll Could Top 30k, According to Local Health Officials
But the protests weren’t limited to Ameica, there were protests all over the world, including in Muslim countries.

And the outrage wasn’t always directed at the government. We don’t see Iranian students in the US being attacked. We don’t see Iranian places of worship in the US being attacked. We don’t see as much outrage in the comments on HN - there were some event justifying it.

midlander··on Is Privacy an Illusion?
Who has access to your SSDs?
midlander··on TikTok is now collecting more data about its users
US aid to Israel is about 0.05% of the federal budget, and around 3% of Israel’s state budget. That’s nowhere near enough to fund healthcare in either country.
midlander··on When employees feel slighted, they work less
What are you trying to say?
midlander··on Waze built the largest crowdsourced surveillance system
You think it’s important to point out that the founders are Jewish/Israeli/Zionist.

But if Waze was actually created for nefarious global surveillance as part of another conspiracy, they wouldn’t have shared it all publicly.

midlander··on Underground Resistance Aims to Sabotage AI with Poisoned Data
The Internet was only needed to bootstrap LLMs. From this point, future iterations can be built using synthetic data and high quality sources only.
midlander··on In Europe, wind and solar overtake fossil fuels
Many Hamas members had day-jobs as “journalists”, meaning they worked on producing content for Hamas. Many of them took part in the invasion of Israel on Oct 7th taking selfies with and clips of the gruesome massacres as they were unfolding.
midlander··on Show HN: Figr – AI that thinks through product problems before designing
I like that you’re positioning this as an “AI PM that happens to design” instead of yet another screen generator. Most tools are great at producing artifacts and terrible at preserving the reasoning behind them. If Figr could reliably spit out a tight decision log/constraints list from each session (what we considered, what we rejected, and why), that alone would replace a lot of hand-wavy product docs.

The 200k UX pattern corpus sounds powerful, but that’s also the scary part: pattern bias overpowering the specifics of a product. The more you can show “this suggestion came from your own data” (analytics, funnels, support tickets) and let teams tune how opinionated the pattern-matching is, the easier it is to trust it for things like onboarding and billing flows rather than just happy-path demos.

midlander··on West Midlands police chief quits over AI hallucination
The irony of anti-“Zionists” making Jews feel unsafe and unwelcome in the UK is that those Jews are then more likely to immigrate to Israel.
midlander··on Iran report says 16,500 dead in 'genocide under digital darkness'
If you prick Iranians do they not bleed?

Anyone who has selective outrage about the suffering of innocents does not actually care about the suffering of innocents.

midlander··on West Midlands police chief quits over AI hallucination
That police “intelligence” relies on a google search rather than internal records or in exchange with other precincts and databases is ridiculous.
