mike50··on Costco is the anti-Amazon
Personally owned folding shopping carts exist.
mike50··on Costco is the anti-Amazon
This has to be astoturfed or something. There is literally a Costco in Manhattan and several in suburban Queens and Staten Island. Nothing stops you from going to Costco and just getting a cab back for a once a month trip.
mike50··on From Australia to Europe, countries move to curb children's social media access
Example I'm running my personal academic website and I research something like human sexuality or transgender people how will this be enforced since the website is just one person? Remember people in high school have been credited authors on research papers.

mike50··on The quiet resurgence of RF engineering
With the exception of firmware development those are all designer tasks that have never required a degree.
mike50··on The quiet resurgence of RF engineering
This person knows nothing about RF and is just another applications monkey. Without taking fields and waves you are at best a technician. Anyone who actually worked in defense knows that minicircuits is a notorious company that pays very poorly and has massive turnover. Many of the other defense/space RF subs are just the same. The author is just mangling all RF communications applications into one big ball. And of course the authors pathetic theory background means that RADAR is the only sensing application they "understand".

Read this https://www.microwaves101.com/encyclopedias/where-are-they-n... and tell me how well this next big surge is going to work out any differnt.

The meta is that Wired (Conde Nast) is peak psyop.

Not the money laundering, the mined bridges the fact that major international banks are based there or being a major supplier of weapons and formerly troops.
mike50··on Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom
Because the students learned that school is designed by old morons, without understating why writing book reports and doing math drills has the intent of creating students that can read and write or learn other transferable skills.
mike50··on Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom
This has been replaced by a webcam on a stick and a computer monitor.
mike50··on Bring Back MiniDV with This Raspberry Pi FireWire Hat
Unless there has been some change recently those have never had the bandwidth or software support needed to capture DV.
mike50··on First Western Digital, now Sony: The tech giant suspends SD card sales
Automotive, space and defense happily use older processes at scale. Also embedded electronics in all sorts of electronics.
mike50··on First Western Digital, now Sony: The tech giant suspends SD card sales
It's just an attempt to copy Taiwan and the Philippines by starting with the labor intensive low value add part of semiconductor manufacturing.
mike50··on Toyota’s hydrogen-powered Mirai has experienced rapid depreciation
Let alone the compressors or the flow measurement equipment. Also significant portions of the pipesline (especially in neighborhoods / last mile) aren't metal anymore.
mike50··on Teaching my neighbor to keep the volume down
They do sell ir dongles for android but the reviews on amazon don't look great.
mike50··on Amazon closing its Fresh and Go stores
100% no subway link to Manhattan, pretty car friendly and mostly two or three family attached homes.
mike50··on Amazon closing its Fresh and Go stores
Again go to Queens or Brooklyn plenty of suburban size and shape supermarkets.
mike50··on Amazon closing its Fresh and Go stores
Maybe if you only shop at the mass market chains in the gentrified central part of the city. Go to Flushing and tell me that or just go to a Western Beef.
mike50··on Amazon closing its Fresh and Go stores
If you live in a Sienfield rerun in Manhattan the city looks like your comment. There are plenty of conventional supermarkets in NYC they just don't have a huge parking lot.
mike50··on Amazon closing its Fresh and Go stores
I can list like five mass market supermarkets in NYC. Western Beef, Food Bazaar H Mart, City Fresh the regional chains like Stop and Shop Target.
mike50··on ICE using Palantir tool that feeds on Medicaid data
Many people in the UK were detained or interviewed by police for protesting Israeli actions.
mike50··on Google confirms 'high-friction' sideloading flow is coming to Android
I just plug the sd card reader into my phone.
mike50··on White House alters arrest photo of ICE protester, says "the memes will continue"
Use the actual military with more personnel tanks and air support.
mike50··on Bose has released API docs and opened the API for its EoL SoundTouch speakers
Build quality is trash consumer with a hefty markup. The older CD player era equipment has the cheapest CD mechanisms I've ever seen for the era. The audio pathway is the same hybrids that everyone else uses. Bose is 100% mass marketing. I'm old enough to remember the endless ads in the back of magazines.
mike50··on Imagine 130M Washing Machines
Mega yachts are not airplanes, computers, software or some other cutting edge or basic research technology. It's a boat that other then adding starlink hasn't meaningfully changed for decades.
mike50··on A New Year's letter to a young person
Yeah because Seattle is a third tier city. Chicago isn't a second tier city because it is surrounded by 10 other completely irrelevant cites. Austin is solidly a second tier city though.
