mikhael28··on DAO DE JING
A good book to read.
mikhael28··on Anthropic S-1
lol you created an account just to rail on iPhone tribalism? I wish people would realize that you can have multiple smartphones, and there is no one correct path.
mikhael28··on Railway down for 8 hours – PHP?
Is this related to the global PhP incident? Timing seems suspicious.
mikhael28··on I said no and Apple said yes
Thank goodness Linux exists.
mikhael28··on Stop Omarchy
That is technically correct, but when I look at this color scheme I think of Nazis.
mikhael28··on Neijuan
Learned a new expression today, thanks for the comment.
mikhael28··on Omarchy Is a Power Grab
How is that, at all, related to Omarchy apart from the racist dog whistles from its founder?

It's like people see a blue t-shirt and say 'look, that t-shirt is rainbow colored'. No, that t-shirt has ONE of the colors of the rainbow, but it's missing red, orange, yellow, green and purple.

mikhael28··on Omarchy Is a Power Grab
Logical arguments can be hard to follow, it is true.
mikhael28··on Omarchy Is a Power Grab
The European Union is known for its Schengen Zone, which allows EU citizens to travel between other EU member states freely. However, did you know that until 2025, there were two countries who were full EU member states, that were not a part of the Schengen Zone? [1]

They were Romania and Bulgaria, the two countries where - you guessed it - most of the Romani people, colloquially known as Gypsies, are from. The rest of the EU, for a very long time, denied these countries equal Schengen access precisely because no one else in the EU wanted Gypsies in their countries. Precisely because of the disrespectful behavior they display when they set-up shop somewhere.

DHH did not call for them to be shot, he expressed that he would like to deport homeless vagrants who were not Danish citizens. If vagrancy is a crime, then deporting a criminal is not a controversial stance. It is, in fact, standard operating procedure for any nation-state in the world that can afford to do so.

However, his language and rhetoric to invoke shooting wolves (a dangerous and feral animal) in the same sentence (essentially) as deporting Gypsies is, at a minimum, dangerous and irresponsible as it can encourage vigilantism and civil violence where people can take the law into their own hands. It would have been better if he had moderated his language, however strictly speaking - this does not quality as 'literally calling for ethnic cleansing', especially when in the context of deporting non-citizens of a nation state who are accused of criminal activity.

mikhael28··on Omarchy Is a Power Grab
I do not believe he is 'literally calling for ethnic cleansing', based on what I've read. But if you would like to make that argument, please enclose 2 quotes from him that you believe support your proposition, with a link to the original source.

I would describe DHH as a narcissist. Normal people who don't have a massive ego and hugely inflated view of themselves don't get involved in these societal conversations in the first place, to even be accused of being a fascist.

mikhael28··on Stop Omarchy
This website's color scheme screams fascism; accusing someone of being the very thing that you are, in psychological terms, is referred to as 'projection'.

DHH can be a POS at times, but c'mon - they are painting him like he's a war criminal! It's crazy! He's a nerd who is probably on too much T, probably dealing with some AI psychosis, has a huge ego because of his success, probably should touch grass a little more often and definitely needs a bit more empathy for people who aren't millionaires, but he is not a supervillain.

mikhael28··on Neijuan
Neijuan as a word has transcended itself; it now means many different things, to many different people, in many different contexts.
mikhael28··on Omarchy Is a Power Grab
Would be awesome if people stopped throwing around the word fascist like it's nothing. I wonder if the person who wrote this had any family members who ran into real fascists during the 20th century. While DHH might be a POS at times, that doesn't make him a fascist.
mikhael28··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
Because it’s worse. Occam's Razor.
mikhael28··on JEP 541: Deprecate the macOS/x64 Port for Removal
If you have Apple Intel hardware, I strongly strongly strongly recommend you migrate to Linux. It works amazingly on MacOS, except I guess the sound drivers aren't perfect. Too many security holes in old, unpatched software.
mikhael28··on Ask HN: New employeer not providing equipment
Well, you should send this ‘yeah, I can bring my personal laptop while my machine gets set up - when will my company issued device be available?’ Oh and yeah, bring a comically old laptop running an obscure Linux distro. DSL would be best.
mikhael28··on Ask HN: Are YC startups *actually* hiring?
Crazy to hear how much spam & straight up liars are applying nowadays. Not being able to pass a technical interview is one thing, but sending a fake resume and then expecting to not be exposed as a fraud is just crazy, sociopath behavior.
mikhael28··on Ask HN: Are YC startups *actually* hiring?
Maybe a startup could work on this problem - HN has two moderators, I’m not sure it’s realistic to ask them to track more than what they already do. How would they even track and verify such hearsay anyway?
mikhael28··on Ask HN: Are YC startups *actually* hiring?
Yes, they are. It’s a numbers game.
mikhael28··on Ask HN: Are YC startups *actually* hiring?
This is a bad faith comment - if you had all that in your resume, they wouldnt disqualify you for not ‘sending an api request’.
mikhael28··on AAA Gaming on Asahi Linux
Fantastic! A great proof of concept on Linux - lots of AAA gaming is already possible on Mac with Crossover and/or Parallels or VMWare Personal, which is free! While I have a Steam Deck, gaming on Mac works for me - I refuse to play Baldurs Gate 3 on a controller.
mikhael28··on Ask HN: Is anyone working at least 4 hours daily on an Apple Vision Pro?
Suits can be very comfortable to wear, even with neckties and dress shoes. The first monkeys probably though shirts were hot, stuffy and uncomfortable too. They are not ridiculous items.
mikhael28··on Visa Introduces the Visa Tokenized Asset Platform
Ethereum’s smart contracts are inherently insecure. Look at all the money lost through oracle hacks and bridge attacks. If crypto ever becomes viable, mark my words - Ethereum will not be that platform.
mikhael28··on Legalizing Sports Gambling Was a Mistake
Yeah, huge mistake. I see way too many people casually addicted to wasting their money and burning it for no good reason. I enjoy playing fantasy football, but gambling on it is a sad use of your hard earned money that will only impoverish people and keep them working for the man.
mikhael28··on Russian election interference efforts focus on the Harris-Walz campaign
Wow, sarcasm, so impressive.
mikhael28··on US judge throws out FTC's ban on non-compete agreements
I made a non-serious, sarcastic and parodious comment in a serious thread. My bad guys!

I just think non-competes are bad for employees though - if someone sells trade secrets, that can be somewhat obvious, and can be pursued legally without non-competes. It just creates an environment that keeps people down at the benefit of the powerful.

mikhael28··on US judge throws out FTC's ban on non-compete agreements
lol I was trying to be sarcastic, came off as bitter?

I’m not even looking for a job, I’m traveling the world and living my best life. I think my comment was more about how non-competes encourage toxic ideas of what loyalty you, as a free agent, are supposed to offer people who are fundamentally just paying you some money while they don’t reciprocate. Not that I’ve had this experience myself, just something I’ve seen others go through. I’ve had nothing but great employers for the most part.

mikhael28··on US judge throws out FTC's ban on non-compete agreements
Ask for a raise once a year, be happy if you don’t get one, and if a competitor tries to hire you away for a lot more money, stay loyal.
mikhael28··on Artificial intelligence is losing hype
As long as Zuck keeps releasing open-source models, the moat will continue to disappear from these companies. Only expensive, corporate processing tiers will exist and everyone will run stuff locally. Not a lot of money to be made from local processing.
mikhael28··on Why won't some people pay for news? (2022)
Why would I pay for news when I have HN?
