miltonlost··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
And you think there'd be that from a draft bill? That also will have none of the "hard discussions" that you want in a committee led by Republicans who don't let anything Dems to come to the table to even be talked about. The difference between them is negligible. But hey, you work in private equity, so of course you're just gonna try to hate on Dems no matter what
miltonlost··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
That's what they're doing now in this exact case!! omg.
miltonlost··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
> Use procedure to try and bring it up for a vote. At least try to legislate.

They do introduce bills in committee. Which are shot down in committee by the instrangient Republicans that lead the committees refusing to compromise often before the bill can come to the full congress. You are asking Dems to do something they literally cannot do while minority party. You are asking Dems to do an impossible thing and then complaining they cannot.

> Introduce an actual bill. Draft and debate something specific so that when they are in power they don’t have to start from scratch.

You're also complainging about democrats not introducing bills... on a post from Democrats proposing bills (well, resolution. whatever, still not starting from scratch then)!!!! You're complaining about something that literally already exists! Stop being so blind.

miltonlost··on Peter Thiel, the tech oligarch who believes in the Antichrist
Sorry, you have read his essays and listened to interviews but don't know his companies??? That, frankly, is not believable. The article above goes into detail about the problems with his companies. Who reads essays by Thiel but doesn't know about Palantir and his hand in the creation of facebook? You know about the "meme-level comments" but don't know about what they're criticizing?

Bizarre is this passive defense of him you're doing.

> seem to have presaged a broad revaluation of rules and regulations that have accumulated over the years (including zoning rules).

That to me reads like "he breaks the laws and doesn't care about regulations because he thinks he's more important than the state and others".

Interesting is a boring, neutral word. Seems like you support him but don't want to say it.

"Together they created PayPal, an electronic payments platform between users that allowed them to evade government control — an idea that anticipated some of the principles of cryptocurrencies he would later champion.

A few months after PayPal launched, another young engineer joined them: Elon Musk. After a period of internal wars at the company, Thiel became chief executive. He skirted banking regulation and allowed unchecked financial movements, a strategy that became the seed of Thielism."

miltonlost··on Investor-owned utilities charge 23% more for electricity than public providers
"government is inefficient" is a canard spit out by captalists as part of their propaganda program. Same with "you're better off without a union."

Profit going to capitalist owners who don't do any work is an inefficient allocation, IMO, more than an "inefficient" government.

miltonlost··on Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone
Becoming a public servant means you should have fewer privacy rights compared to the average person because of the outsized power and influence a public servant has. All the info that Kushner hid should have been in the security clearance form that he was exempted from.

Kushner's behavior undermined the world far more than this phone hack.

miltonlost··on Publish fake stats, get cited in LLMs
Sucks to be them but they deserve this for what they did to train in the first place. Nothing good enough to outweigh the bad they will produce will come from LLMs.
miltonlost··on Publish fake stats, get cited in LLMs
Part of the problem is also then the indiscriminate hoovering of any and all data by LLMs. If they kept their own trusted data sources instead of stealing from anyone and everything, then poisoned data wouldn't be an issue. The data poisoners are at fault, but so are the LLMs trusting anything and the companies thievery of human labor. Once the LLMs bring up this data, it's now on Anthropic and OpenAI for editorializing and saying "this is true".

Except for the fine print. LLMs are to be used for entertainment purposes. lol

"Zstd is worth a lot of other's people's pain." in response to a post about how Facebook helped enable ethnic cleansing makes you look sociopathic. You just said "this tech is worth the deaths of thousands!!!!"
miltonlost··on Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All
Well, the "something" the Trump adminstration landed on (with an investigation started by Biden's team) I think for OP wasn't enough. A small monetary settlement without jail time of the executives involved is hardly the "something" that needs to be done in order to curtail this behavior and stop it in the first place. When the people who committed a crime still gets to keep any amount of their stolen money, that, to me, is less than "something".
miltonlost··on Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All
"Maybe" here is a rhetorical device. We were told by libertarian experts, "there is NO WAY there is collusion. It's bird flu. Duh".

Now, turns out, there was actual price manipulation occurring (Read the article. It's clear what was going on. There were text messages of their criminal conspiracy!) Now the headline is sassily saying "hey, maybe there was price collusion!" This use of "maybe" is a common expression of sarcasm.

> The fear that Huffman and other anti-monopolists share is that companies will read the Justice Department’s pursuit of the defendants not as a cautionary tale but as a how-to manual.

Settlements instead of jail time will only cause this behavior to continue. Economic white collar crimes need far higher punishments it seems when the only downside is you return only some of the higher profits you made.

miltonlost··on Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All
Based on your profile, your existence as a commenter is to both-sides issues where Republicans are clearly doing wrong things.

You say "lets not pretend" and then your only next sentence is refutation of that first statement. If Democrats are incompetent economic governers (whatever that phrase means), then they would have not put in a competent person like Khan in the first place.

Sometimes talent decides to just make money and scam people into thinking talking with AI versions of celebrities as something worthwhile and positive for the world.

miltonlost··on Anne Carson wins Nobel Prize in literature 2026
When YOU see a plot like this. And that YOU see this says a lot more about YOU and your preoccupations with another person's sexuality. If you would just be honest and say "i don't like LGBT people", we'd save a lot of time.
miltonlost··on I gave Opus 5.5 one prompt and six hours to visualize Invisible Cities
It's a techie creating the torment nexus but the imagination version. No need to picture in your mind the invisible cities! Time to make them visible!!!

Talk about missing the entire point of the piece of literature.

miltonlost··on I gave Opus 5.5 one prompt and six hours to visualize Invisible Cities
Now, you just need to use someone else's words and someone else's AI built on everyone else's stolen art! But sure, yes, thats you being creative... Don't use your imagination at all.

The same way scientists for tobacco companies back in the day never found cancer connections. $$$ and ideology.
miltonlost··on Screens Aren't Destroying Young Minds. I Should Know
He's writing for a side project of the Cato Institute. That think tank is one of the big reasons we're in the hot mess we are in. The essay isn't coming from an intellectually honest place. The libertarian mindset is the key driver here rather than any actual data.
miltonlost··on Screens Aren't Destroying Young Minds. I Should Know
Oh, the think tank is a "project of the Cato Institute". So this essay is just ideological right-wing driven drivel. Trying to deflect blame off big tech and societal problems and place them entirely on the individual. Libertarian fantasies.

A system is also composed of its pieces. There's plenty of blame to go around. Trying to blame entirely the system and absolve the company of its immorality is nihilistic. Stop thinking that companies aren't to blame just because they take advantage of a bad system.
