mimi89999··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
Who is responsible for preventing a child from running into a busy road and being hit by a car? And why, on the internet, does that responsibility seem to fall on everyone else?
mimi89999··on Windows PowerShell Phish Has Scary Potential
Shouldn’t Windows just show a huge warning explaining the implications of such actions when a user who has never used the Windows Run function nor PowerShell suddenly attempts to run some suspicious code pasted form the clipboard?
mimi89999··on An Empirical Study and Evaluation of Modern CAPTCHAs
Is it similar to https://friendlycaptcha.com/ ?
mimi89999··on A Touch of Pwn – an investigation into fingerprint sensors for Windows Hello
I wonder how safe libfprint drivers are
mimi89999··on Bringing passkeys to Android and Chrome
Yes, WebAuthn is an open standard, but it seems that Passkeys can only be synced using Google password manager and I don't see any API that would allow the user to use a different password manager as is the case with the auto fill API.
mimi89999··on Bringing passkeys to Android and Chrome
It's a known issue with Android. You need to install Play Services beta. It will work flawlessly.
mimi89999··on Bringing passkeys to Android and Chrome
Do you know if it's possible to see a list of stored passkeys in Android? I installed the Play Service beta, managed to create a passkey and sign in, but can't see the list of credentials anywhere in the UI.
mimi89999··on WebAuthn and Passkeys
I think that once users realize how difficult it is to transfer passkeys between their PC and mobile device, they will just ababdon them. The only risk I see is that passkeys will be synced between Android and Chrome.

I really hope that there will be an API for Passkeys like there is an API for password managers on Android.

mimi89999··on DNS-over-HTTP/3 in Android
DNS has known privacy issues, but this solution just (conviniently for them) shifts trust and data from the network operator to Google DNS or another central provider
mimi89999··on When will we get secure desktop OSes? (2018)
Well, the problem is that many desktop workflows require data passing through many apps. How would you do that on the iOS model?
mimi89999··on Chrome abandons 'simplified domain experiment' in omnibar
That's what Firefox is doing
mimi89999··on Court orders WhatsApp to suspend users sharing pirated movie
That would have to happen on the device before encryption or after decryption.
mimi89999··on Thousands of Tor exit nodes attacked cryptocurrency users over the past year
Doesn't HTTPS Everywhere solve this problem?
mimi89999··on Thousands of Tor exit nodes attacked cryptocurrency users over the past year
Malicious Tor exits should not be an issue. Tor is for anonimity and protects your identity. Enforce HTTPS to protect against MITM.
mimi89999··on Thousands of Tor exit nodes attacked cryptocurrency users over the past year
Why is this an issue? Most websites support HTTPS. It should be required and impossible to disable. Other malicious actors could also be running such attacks even at a much smaller scale.
mimi89999··on Element (Matrix chat app) suspended from the Google Play Store
The pattern is that their reviewers are really bad and the appeal process is almost nonexistent. Improving the quality would probably be a huge cost and they have no real reason to do that.
mimi89999··on Kazakhstan government is intercepting HTTPS traffic in its capital (again)
The point is that if browsers block the cert it will make the MITM impossible without them releasing thieir own browser. It will be much more clear for normal uaers that the custom browser can intercept internet traffic than that "security certificate". Also good luck getting that browser into the AppStore and PlayStore or making users install the apk.
mimi89999··on Sponsored Top Sites with Firefox 83
They have a donnate page on their website.
mimi89999··on ‘Extremely aggressive’ internet censorship spreads in the world’s democracies
I also did not notice it. Will need to check OONI Probe.

mimi89999··on An Exam Surveillance Company Is Trying to Silence Critics with Lawsuits
Some SW can simply be run in a VM and you can do anything you want on the host computer and activate and deactivate passed devices.
mimi89999··on Software Freedom Conservancy: New Strategy for GPL Enforcement
Was it unreadable? Sometime ago everybody believed that after the IPv4 exhaustion everybody will quickly switch to IPv6. It was quite reasonable to sell them while they were still worth something if they believed that they will be worthless is several years.

Sadly, there was no big switch to IPv6 and double NAT is the thing now.

mimi89999··on Open Source Thinkpad T420 Battery Design
It would give reputable battery producers with all kind of certificates a thing and not buying dubious compatible batteries from Amazon/EBay/Ali/whatever a thing.

It would also make it easier for people to learn how to replace batteries.

mimi89999··on Convicted of sex crimes, but with no victims
Vehicle speed can be easily measured and is a fact and an offense. Here there were conflicting informations about the other person's age and the offendents could have believed that the other person is 20+.

Let's put that differently. If your speed meeter is broken and you believe that you are not speeding, but in fact are still speeding, then the situation is clear. Here the other person was really 20+, so his judgment was actually correct.

mimi89999··on Convicted of sex crimes, but with no victims
Even though it's a very sad story, that comment made me laugh.
mimi89999··on NTFS read-write GPL kernel driver
To deploy Windows from WIM imeges. Windows PE isn't something one would even consider using.
mimi89999··on Belarus has shut down the internet amid a controversial election
Maybe protesters should set up some mesh to keep the information flow and coordination if the internet will be cut completely.

mimi89999··on Activists rally to save Internet Archive as lawsuit threatens site
I think that this reasoning is quite naive. The most basic counterexample I can give is a person who downloaded the content, but wasn't able to afford it. If that content was not accessible on IA, that person wouldn't be able to access is. The publisher would still not earn anything.
mimi89999··on Lawsuit over online book lending could bankrupt Internet Archive
It's like a car dealer said "you fool came to buy a car in that hard time. I see that you really need it, so I will charge 10x the price" "But look! You have an entire parking lot of cars that nobody wants to buy. Maybe you could give me a discount?" "You are right. I will charge 40x the price!"
