mingfli··on H-1B visa holders scramble for jobs after 2022 tech layoffs
> Part of the H-1B process is to prove you (hiring company) can't find and equal American citizen to come work for you.

This is true for a company sponsored Green Card application, not H-1B visa.

mingfli··on FB feed is 98% suggested pages and barely any friends' posts
Not saying either is a good strategy, I'd rather see more posts from my friends than random pages. Just pointing out the analogy.

The French Laundry is a very niche product, which Facebook is not. I think a more apt analogy is suggesting McDonald's to include more "healthy" options or a coffee bar because the competitors do it and it's a successful business strategy.
mingfli··on Facebook users said no to tracking, and now advertisers are panicking
This seems like an extreme way of thinking about it. Maybe they like taking/looking at/sending the pictures, but between work, summer camp, soccer lessons, making sure everyone's fed, etc, they just forgot to book a session, and seeing the ad reminds them to do it. In this light, it seems like a great thing for both sides of the transaction.
mingfli··on Facebook senior software engineer interview
IMO this is the wrong metric to look at. Any company that has experienced hyper growth (like FB or Amazon) will see very low average tenures simply because of math. The right metric is avg tenure at time of attrition.
mingfli··on Facebook's Hypocrisy on Apple's New iOS 14 Privacy Feature
There are no URLs in app installs. The ad links to the iOS app store, and Apple does not give you any information post install on where the source came from.
mingfli··on How Google Chrome’s ad blocker works
Not true. If I know you want a keyboard and that you can buy it from 100 different stores, I would probably give you a discount to buy it from me as long as it still makes me money.

Battery life also makes a huge difference. If you use just the view finder on a dslr you can take many hundreds of pictures on a single charge.
mingfli··on Hoaxes and scams on Facebook: How most of them work and spread
Facebook will auto block malicious apps once it's detected. This article is written by a researcher and not affiliated with Facebook.

Both qq and wechat are owned by tencent.
mingfli··on Google Shuts Out Competitors on Android? Hardly
It could be if iOS or OSX dominated the market share, but I don't think that's the case right now.
mingfli··on Laid-off IT workers muzzled as H-1B debate heats up
I'm pretty sure you're conflating H-1Bs and Green Card applications. H-1Bs do not have this stipulation, and you're not required to put out ads for the position (like you do for green card labor certs).

The only stipulations for H-1Bs are that you work in a specialized field as described by USCIS, that you have the requisite degrees (and that the position requires those degrees), and that you're paid market salary. Whether the "market salary" describes the actual market is another issue, and should be enforced by the government.

mingfli··on Laid-off IT workers muzzled as H-1B debate heats up
Umm, no it doesn't. http://www.uscis.gov/eir/visa-guide/h-1b-specialty-occupatio...
mingfli··on Laid-off IT workers muzzled as H-1B debate heats up
No, that only applies to green card applications through work. General work visas don't usually have this restriction.
mingfli··on Gaming the H-1B system for good
This is correct, it needs to be posted publicly around the office (both salary and job description). It's anonymized in that it does not have the name of the employee, but if you're one of the few around the office on an H1B ...
mingfli··on Meld: precision temperature control for your stove
They require you to turn the stove ON first, and then take over from there, so it bypasses the ignition skipping and "auto on" concern.
mingfli··on Snapchat has raised $485M more from 23 investors
I'm pretty certain you can have a Messenger account with just a phone number, no FB account required.
mingfli··on Google Removes Amazon’s App Listing from Google Play Search
Google changed the terms of the Developer Distribution Agreement, I don't believe Amazon was violating Google's terms when they initially put it in the play store. This article has more details: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/12/11/google-may-have-forc...
mingfli··on App Links: Link Anywhere on Mobile
iOS apps cannot handle (or intercept) http/https urls, they can only register a custom scheme with the OS and handle those.
mingfli··on App Links: Link Anywhere on Mobile
From what I understand, app indexing is currently Android only, whereas app links was designed to be cross platform from the start.
mingfli··on App Links: Link Anywhere on Mobile
I think Android definitely has a stronger story than iOS, but Android also allows any app to handle any url, so multiple apps can attempt to handle a domain (like facebook.com), whereas app links allows you to direct the link to a single app (or a suite of apps).

"mobile" also means more than just iOS and Android, although they're the two dominant platforms today.

mingfli··on Amazon's Current Employees Raise the Bar for New Hires
I'm sure there's context missing in that quote. Bar Raisers would not veto someone just because they didn't know specific things about a programming language ... unless they claim to be masters of a certain language.

mingfli··on Amazon says France's new bill is 'discrimination'
Nothing (except in how they accrue, but that's getting very specific). Personal time originally was offered in place of sick days and other floating religious holidays. But Seattle now requires paid sick days, so you now get personal days + sick days.
